This is great! I am happy there's a Fresh Thyme market in the Des Moines area. This location was great and located in a cute little strip mall with other great establishments. When this store first opened, I didn't think it would last very long because of the weird location. They really surprised me with all the different things they carry. My husband and I have really come to love this place. It's a neat little grocery store. I know it's a chain, but it kind of feels like a one-off to us. I guess it feels like a Trader Joe's or Whole Foods. I don't buy all our groceries here. I just come when they have a really great sale, which is pretty often. I like that they overlap their sales flyers dates. One sale starts on Wednesday and continues through the following Wednesday. So when the next sale flyer starts on Wednesday, the previous week still goes till that Wednesday. So they basically have two sales flyers going on on Wednesdays. That's so awesome! They have really great sales on fruit and vegetables all the time. This week, for example, they have blueberries for $.88! When is the last time you saw blueberries sell for that much? They also have Tessemae Organic salad dressings for Buy One Get One Free! My husband also got his vitamins for 33% off last week. Who are these people and how do they do this? Their employees are always friendly every time I need help finding something. They're also friendly when they answer the phone and don't sound put out when I ask if they've restocked an item that sold out. They even offered to hold two of the aforementioned salad dressings because they were almost all gone the last time I was in. I love this kind of customer service. My only complaint would be that sometimes when it's busy, they only have one or two lanes open. So sometimes you have to wait in line for a while. But that's minor. I discovered the store when I was doing Instacart and now I have became a regular shopper there for myself. They have a great selection great staff clean just all around amazing place. Not really a farmers' market. It's a grocery store that is smaller than most. Stocked mostly with fresh made baked goods, antipasto, and salads. There are some grocery items, just one aisle of canned goods. Fresh fish area, although coming from the west coast I'm not sure how fresh it was. A massive vitamin section. A small frozen foods section. An area they refer to as hops and grapes- obviously their adult beverage area. Lots of organic body care products. A great dairy section. Plenty of bulk food items. A fantastic smelling bakery area. The fresh produce wasn't looking all that great the day I was in. A decent looking butcher shop. And for those on the move a deli that uses their organic products. It's nice to have a store like this year around, but in the summer months I think I'll stick to a real farmers market and other local spots. read more

I came here the day after it opened and braced myself for a very busy place. I was surprised to see the parking lot half empty around 10:00 am on its first Thursday open. I've always disliked this parking lot (all of Clocktower's parking lot) and still do. The spots seem narrower and the lot is sloped to the east so shopping carts roll away easily. They have brand new carts. These were on the smaller side but were nice because they were so new. I LOVED the way the strap for kids worked. It's a retractable strap so you just pulled it around and snapped/slid it into place and it was an way custom fit. I wish all carts were like this! First up was some produce specials and the bakery. I didn't stop in the bakery area. I admittedly only came for their grand opening specials (yep, I'm cheap) like $0.88 strawberries, $0.99 pineapples, $0.33 bags of carrots, $1.99 85% ground beef, and more. So we moved to the produce and meat areas. These areas were busy and hard to maneuver around (because of all the people). Once we were past those areas there weren't nearly as many people and we moved on easily. Regular prices on items were comparable to other area grocery stores. I was able to find Corned Beef flats for $1.99/lb which seemed like I was stealing from them because it was such an awesome deal! They have a large selection of organic, gluten free, and other "healthier" and "special" items. The store is of course clean. I mean, it's brand new! Our daughter got free stickers and a sucker so she liked the place. Look online for a coupon for $5 off of $25 purchase to save more. By the time we left, around 11:00 am, the parking lot was packed and we had people waiting for our spot. I'd come back for any amazing deals they had but otherwise will stay local to my other grocery stores. read more

This was the second time I had trouble using my EBT card the last time somebody made it so that I could manually put in the number today after telling the girl attendance she offered no solution or help even when I explained how they got it to work last time She walked away and I was paying with a debit card I won't ever be back. The prices here can be pretty awesome. I found some great deals on sausages! I bought a couple different ones to try. I'll def check out more if they have a sale again. The bbq ribs here taste great. It's priced a dollar or two lower than hyvee. The marinade was better. There's not a big bakery selection like Whole Foods. I found some great prices on fruit here. I dig Fresh Thyme Market! Very similar prices to Whole Foods on lots of the same items, but they have some Items Whole Foods does not, and Yes Whole Foods ups them on a few gems! Where to start, I dig that they have a great looking salad bar. The bulk selection is boss, and they even have vegan jelly beans (2.99) a pound.. I got some! They have a great beer and wine selection full of locals, crafts, and the cheapies. Awesome supplement section, lots of chips to choose from.. 2 for 1 cliff bars, Fresh Squeezed OJ and Vegan Pizza's with Dayia Cheese. Total Score! The staff was really nice and were smiling at my baby, so I dig that! Only bummer is some of the fake meat options were a little pricey, especially compared to Trader Joes. All in all this is a great new addition to Des Moines and I will be back for sure! read more

This place reminds me of Trader Joes and Wholefoods combined into one store. The place isn't as large as Wholefoods. They have organic and non-organic items. Produce is decent and price wise is comparable to other local stores. They do run specials each week and have some decent deals on produce. Wednesday is double the sales from the week before and new week. Poke salad from the meat counter is surprisingly good. 7.99 per lb. French baguette is decent and priced on sale for 1.59. They do sell sushi, sandwiches and pizza. Bakery counter is small but have some decent selection like chocolate croissants. Bulk tems are located up front. This is such an amazing store, more farmers market rustic style than high end grocer. But I must say they offer an incredible assortment of produce and bulk food items!! I love the seasonal selections of fruits and veggies!! They have a extensive variety of gluten free, vegan, and dairy free fresh and frozen options as well. Their deli food looks and smells amazing! Fresh sandwiches, salads, and pizzas! Staff is super friendly! Always willing to point you in the correct direction! I love the look of the store! From the mason jar lights, to the fixtures made out of rustic barn wood and old wash bins. The store is super clean and so are the grounds! Come for the produce and stay for the rest. I really like this store. The produce is fresh and arrives four or five times a week. A lot of what they offer is organic, but I'll tell you that the quality of the non-organic produce seems to be a lot better. When I stopped eating meat last year, a nice young woman took me around the store and helped me find quality replacements! Their products are always fresh and the people who work there are amazing. If something doesn't look right, tell someone! Everything arrives so quickly and sells out so quickly, they have a hard time keeping up. But believe me, they try. Produce is notorious for turning quickly and they may have just checked something earlier in the day and now it doesn't look right: lighting, temp, humidity in the store doesn't seem to help. Fresh Thyme is a great shopping experience. They have some really enticing weekly specials. This week they had a screaming deal on blackberries. I have to say blackberries are high on my list of fruit! They were selling them for $1 per container and this time of the year that is unheard of. The staff are always friendly and helpful too. My first impression of this new market is , YAY PRETTY! It has bright colors and fresh look to it like another couple natural markets. It is centered around the fresh produce. They had free sushi samples that made up for the wait to get my sliced meat and cheese but very good. So far all the produce I have taken home has been delicious. The isles are a little cramped but it is a small facility so it is expected to get all the stuff in there. I do like the bulk options and the quick check out lines. Overall my experience was really good there. Everyone was helpful and chipper. They looked for one item for me but found out right away that they didn't have it. Easily the best place in the Des Moines area to get a variety of fresh produce. Not only is the selection available high quality, but the prices are wonderful. I come here weekly simply for that alone, but I have also enjoyed their bulk area (coffee, dried beans, flours, nuts, candy, etc.) as well the diverse options for regular shopping. Usually if there is a unique ingredient I am looking for on the shelves, I am able to find it here. While remaining a little too limited to be a "one stop shop" Fresh Thyme has become my favorite place in town to get groceries. I've yet to be disappointed with the quality of any of my purchases, included Fresh Thyme branded items. Plenty of good produce, fantastic hummus, cheap chips that are worlds better than other cheep chips. Nearly everything is reasonably priced. Plus Wednesday's include the previous week's sale in addition to new sales. I still spend plenty of time at Hy-Vee but now I supplement that with trips to Fresh Thyme as often as I can. read more

Why does this place still seem like a secret find? The produce is really good quality and priced lower than at Hy-Vee (and not wrapped in layers of plastic, like at Trader Joe's). They have a really big selection of organic products, particularly local ones - Kalona dairy and Picket Fence Creamery-- and generally a great selection of fresh foods. This place opened about a month ago and I absolutely love it. The prices are cheaper than any grocery store around. The quality of the food is great. Strawberries, avocado, and many other fruits and vegetables are very cheap, fresh, and sweet. Meat selection here is amazing too. Fresh Thyme is AWESOME. I can buy all my allergy-friendly necessities (and some treats) in one place, and at cheaper prices than both Whole Foods and Hy-vee's health market. Their produce though - that's the real winner, in terms of cost. If you aren't going organic/non-GMO, you can get produce here for super cheap. On Wednesdays, they have double-ad day, where you can get double the discounts on any time in their 4-5 page weekly spread - seasonal meats, produce, and alcohols included. Most of their weekly deals are outrageous on their own, so being able to double down on that is really cool. They've got an antipasto bar, fresh-made salads and meals, a bakery, and a full service meat counter. They also have a beauty section, and pretty legit protein powder selection, and a good wine selection as well. You can also purchase fresh wheatgrass products, if that's what you're into. Oh, and a good selection of bulk foods - nuts, trail mixes, candy (oh man, the candy section here... so vast), and more. Personally, in the summertime, we like to treat ourselves to their salt water taffy selection for a super chewy treat :) Fresh Thyme was such a cool addition to Des Moines, and we're always so happy with the experience! read more

I go to Fresh Thyme 2-3 times a week for lunch! It's a nice quick stop when I need a break from work. Their soup and salad bar is always fresh, well-stocked, and clean! Definitely try the Broccoli Cheese soup -- it gives Panera a run for it's money. I haven't been here to buy my actual groceries yet but the produce looks awesome and I love their wide variety of healthier brands/options. I highly recommend this small, local vibe market! I decided to check this place out because I heard of some great grand opening week sales. With a burgeoning overcrowded market of specialty organic grocery stores (Natural Grocers, Fresh Market, Whole Foods, Trader Joes, etc.), it's going to be harder for the stores to differentiate themselves. The store is very attractive and clean upon first entrance. The décor is very colorful and attractive. They tried to have a more rustic farmer's market style in the produce area. The bakery looks pretty impressive with their own breads, cookies, pastries, cupcakes, etc. They even have a bread slicer machine you can use yourself if you want your loaves of bread sliced at the store. There are a couple of prepared foods similar to Whole Foods where they have hot sandwiches and pizza. There is a salad/soup bar. There is also an antipasto bar with primarily olives. I was most impressed by the produce section. The produce is reasonably priced especially with the grand opening week sells. The meat and seafood section isn't bad either. I think the best selling point of this place is that it's cheaper than Whole foods and tries to be more affordable but it's not as awesome as Trader Joes. Overall I think this is a place worth checking out but nothing too spectacular compared to what we have out there. read more

I love this place!! If you shop Hy-Vee because they always have the best produce you'll really enjoy Fresh Thyme! I had to stop when my basket was full and I hadn't made it out of the vegetable area. Fresh, organic, and variety is what I was looking for and at reasonable prices. Amazingly that's what I found. I especially like Wednesday where they honor both last week's ad and the new weeks ad. The bakery had a bread bar with offerings that shocked me. Ciabatta and sour dough freshly baked! As a lover of all things carb I had to resist the temptation to buy more then one loaf. The ciabatta was killer and I'll be back for an other "sampling" soon. The staff was very friendly and helpful! One girl even let us try one of her personal Carmel Salted cookies. I quote "these cookies are awesome you have to try one" as she opened the bag. They're a crispy carmel cookie. She was in line behind us and she was right! The wife went and got a bag immediately and I've been back since for an other bag for the office. Yup they are off the hook. I'm not a sweet eater. There's not much of a freezer section as the name would suggest it's about fresh groceries here. With the prices and quality of their produce you can bet I'll be back. read more

However, I really love that they carry Pasture Eggs (Eggs laid by chickens who get to run around in pastures vs. being caged or forced to stay in barns). I like this store a lot. The prices are fine and it's not so huge that you need to wear your tennis shoes to get your shopping done. It's not in a convenient location for me, but I can see myself go there to get some stuff that is featured in their ad. Their deli meat was less than HyVee's. When I was there last week to get some of the specials, I found that the eggs were wiped out and so were the ginger snaps. Were stock people not keeping up with demand or were they really out of food? One other note - I don't drink WDM tap water and get jugs of water. This place has a water station that you can bring your own gallon jug, fill it up, and it's only .25! Good tasting too! 8/12/16 - Water is now .35 a gallon for refill. read more

Fresh thyme is a great lunch spot! I think this is one of the best soup and salad bars in the area and is very popular among my coworkers. They also seem to have good deals on produce and other groceries. The only downside is that check outlines get long around the noon hour. I'm excited to explore their app and rewards more. read more

As a new vegetarian I realized not too many grocery stores that offer animal free alternatives, this store however has a wide selection of it. Today is their first opening day so everything is fresh and clean. Their prices are really cheap, so if you shop at HyVee, you can stop going there and come to Fresh Thyme. :-) The reason why I can't give them a 5, it's because I love Whole Foods too much. It might be expensive, but your veggies/fruits are always PERFECT.. No need to spend your time picking out which container look better. Stopped by Fresh Thyme and it's a nice little grocery store. It reminds me of a Trader Joe's. I don't shop much at these types of grocery stores but I can see myself coming here for specific items that I may not find at Hy-Vee. It's super clean and the layout flows well. My girlfriend and I came before our workout so we didn't shop for too long. We both got some fresh juice, which I was a fan of! The green juice had kale, spinach, lemon and some other healthy stuff in it. You can definitely taste the lemony kick at the end. The orange thyme one had carrot, orange juice, and some other goodies. It did taste very carrot like though, but I ended up liking it very much. Though they're pricey due to the freshness and convenience factor, I'll still splurge every once in awhile. read more
