Fairway What can I say about fairway, I like them. I shop at several different ones. This one in West Des Moines off of Grand is really nice and as all of them carry on the tradition of making sure someone pushes your card out to your car and helps you unload your groceries and takes the card back how cool is that? In any kind of weather and always cheerful. I'm very thankful that they still value customer service.There are lots of people of a certain age in there and you could tell that they're there for many reasons but I'm sure one of them is customer service. One thing I always look for in a grocery store is this it clean? the store was very clean. The other thing is the staff, the staff were very friendly and helpful. They were working on making sure everything looked well stocked and orderly. The vegetables seem to be plentiful and for a typical family grocery store that seemed like they had a fair selection of organic items. They also had grass-fed beef and bacon that was uncured. They also have some individually prepped items which are good for a senior that may want to not have to prepare everything. Of course fairway is known for its meats...I always get the off the bone ham while I'm there it's really a nice breakfast ham or something you can chop up and throw in some mac and cheese. They have some really nice unbreaded pork loin which I really appreciate in making a sandwich or some sliders with pork loin. They have regular lunch meat there as well. If I was going to buy a steak they have everything from regular sirloin to really nice porterhouse or t-bone how many places do that anymore? And they were willing to pack everything I wanted individually so I could freeze half of what I was getting when I got home. Again I'm very thankful for what they do. They even have some Frozen organic items, and gluten-free items which were particularly of interest to me. They have all the other things that you could want from cheese to orange juice to California style Ginger lemon juice lots of selection. I've been when it's been crowded and not crowded and the line through the checkout area has always been fast. It's a complete grocery store with about everything that you could want. read more

One of the things I most like about visiting any Fareway grocery - and in particular this one - is that it makes me reminiscent for my hometown food store. The feel of this Fareway is very "neighborhoodly": friendly faces, a well maintain store, a nice (but not overwhelming) variety of goods all make a run to the Fareway a pleasant errand. Fareways have retained the helpful (and practical) old school practice of taking your purchases out to your vehicle for you so that you can take off without having to worry about returning your shopping cart while appropriately adopting new school precautions to help protect customers exposure to COVID19. For those who are omnivorous, the meat counter at Fareway is highly recommended. Fresh cuts, well prepared, and well-informed counter staff raises the bar for other meat shops. read more

What can I say I dig Fareway.. It makes you feel like you stepped into Pleasantville. Where they still cary out your groceries for you even in a pandemic! I'm not a meat eater but I know they have some of the best meat/butcher stuff in town. I have always had great luck with the produce from here, not only tasting great but lasting too! I appreciate that! It's not as big and or new then most of the Hy-Vee's in town, and it does not have a lot of the Vegan type groceries I get but, hey they got beer, toilet paper, and some of the nicest people in the world working there... Have you been faced with a decision on where to get a good cut of fresh steak? Some say go to Hy Vee and some say you cannot beat Fareway. Fareway it is. The parking on fifth in Valley Junction was easy. The carts are sanitized by a clerk after each use. You are greeted at the front of the store by a clerk who makes you feel they are glad to serve you at check out. This used to be the drawing card at their competing store -- but now "the smile in every aisle" is replaced with a few grumpy stock clerks who seem to be in the way at peak hours. I just have to give a shout out to the "meat clerks" at Fareway. The guys watch for customers and do step up and ask "Have you been helped." Good common courtesy 100% of the time. The prices are reasonable for ribeye steak. All other produce was fresh. The clerk and bagger inquired as to what I was making and my remark was Philly Cheese Steak Hoagies and all I needed was the ribeye steak sliced --the meat guy did a fabulous job and provolone cheese as well as the buns. Sam my checkout clerk deserves a raise -- she was very cheerful. Needless to say this is our neighborhood store please continue to support local! read more

I love fareway but unfortunately this one is the closest to me so I don't go as often anymore. This location has the rudest employees ever. People at the front are either staring at you and acting like you're a thief making you feel uncomfortable or they are teenagers too busy talking to each other to help a self checkout when the light goes off. Don't like either alternative so I only visit fareway now when I'm in ankeny. Meat counter is pretty incompetent too even if it's slow they act like they can't be assed to help you or get pissy when you ask to package things a certain way that other locations do happily. Tip for the employees your job might go a lot smoother if you stopped being a dick to customers every step of the way. read more

I shop at the Grand Avenue Fareway almost weekly, either in store or online. They have always been courteous and helpful. Even in nasty weather they come out with a smile on their face and load my groceries. Their selection is good and I love the meat counter. read more

I was disappointed this AM when I made it a point to go to Fareway for groceries. On their door it lists their hours as 7 AM opening. A gentleman working in the produce department let me know that they didn't open until 8 AM. He followed me out of the store and I showed him the times on the door and advised him that they should put a sign over what was on the door if it wasn't correct. There is a notice in small type beside the EXIT door stating their hours start at 8 AM. Not a very good place for that sign. read more

How does this humble, unassuming store have the best produce in the city?! They must have a produce fairy-wizard in the back. I hadn't been a regular shopper here, until recently. One day, I was running errands and needed to check a few grocery staples off of my list. And, this was the closest store. The produce section looked so clean, and well cared for. It just had a vibe. It's not flashy, nor expensive. It is just quality. I hear the same about the meat department, by I haven't tried that, yet. So, every produce item I purchased, was terrific. My little 18 month old son was like, "Mama, is this heaven? .... a blueberry, grape and strawberry heaven?" And, I answered honest as the day is long, "No son, it's Iowa." read more

I live nearby and go to this Fareway location at least every other day. The entire staff is always helpful and incredibly friendly, from the people stocking the shelves, to the talented crew at the meat counter, to the people checking out, I always feel like they are providing authentic customer service. It's never felt forced or fake, which I truly appreciate. Aside from that, there are always great deals and I have grown to love (and rely heavily on) the meat counter's specials. There are many times throughout the week where I don't know what to make for dinner, so I stop by here on my way home to see a good option to take and cook at home. A recent dinner that was a hit had rice and mushroom stuffed chicken breasts - all prepared and ready to cook once I got home. I usually hit up the meat area first, then circle back for sides at the produce area up front... and dinners are always a win. The store is ok but it smells like rotten dead animal towards the meat and cheese department . I am very unhappy with the quality of the frozen fareway plastic wrapped so called enchiladas. They are not enchiladas at all they are soggy crap wrapped in a wet flour tortilla and then frozen in plastic that is hard to take off before cooking. Enchiladas are supposed to be in corn tortillas for a reason. When the fareway enchiladas are made it's gooey nasty raw dough absolutely disgusting! They cost the same price as an actual mexican restaurant and I had to throw them away after spending all the time cooking them. I'm extremely unhappy! Never ever buying anything like that again what a waste! If you don't know what an enchilada is don't sell them! read more

Fareway is fantastic as it is, but this brand new store off of 63rd is wonderful! I've always had fantastic service. The bonus is the friendly service out to your vehicle. I'm looking forward to going back tomorrow to try their famous stuffed pork chops...I've heard good things!!! read more
