This store has become a regular in rotation, combining good customer service, inventory, pricing, ease of parking, and variety. I enjoy their produce section, along with their healthy choices options. I also like the overall look and layout if the store, uncluttered and vibrant. Customer service totally rocks, an example being this week when staff Nermin hung out and helped customers identified broken eggs that were on sale. That was so kind, so thoughtful. We appreciated it. read more

I was asking a worker about a product and asked a question and he said "I'm on the clock so I don't really care" very rude horrible service

Almost all present day bday sweets come from Hy-Vee! Always great! Character counting.

We had came in to get a money order and the machine jammed. The employee (Jackson) that helped us, was working very hard trying to fix the machine. He had called for management multiple times to help him because it was his first time changing the receipt machine. He did a great job. His other coworkers didn't even try to help him and were standing around. They had gotten a call that the truck was there and the employees that were standing around left Jackson to try and fix the machine himself. We waited 30 minutes and management still hadn't came to help him. Jackson did a great job fixing the machine and we got our money order. Management needs to improve because the way that no one was helping him was ridiculous. We are frustrated that this wasn't resolved sooner. read more

Missed out on breakfast at the hotel I was staying at so ran here for a donut to start the day. The store seemed clean and lots of checkers available. Walked through the Wine and Spirits. Seems like the seltzers have officially taken over. They also had a growler and crowler station behind check out for beer-to-go. The donuts were good but seemed a little expensive ($1.50 for fried cinnamon rolls or apple fritters). All in all a good experience. read more

Very unprofessional went to the pizza station and ask for a hot calzone like I have had done in the past. The guy at the counter keeps insisting that they never done it before. Just laziness read more

This has to be one of my very favorite grocery stores in the area. It is exceptionally clean, well-stocked, and you truly do get that "helpful smile" in every aisle. Because I currently live in a rural area, I visit here frequently when in the area. (I am the one loitering over the gourmet cheese counter.) The produce is always gorgeous and there is a bountiful selection of everything I need and of everything I don't need...but am tempted to buy. Last week I even found Rambutans in the tropical fruit section. I paid way too much for them, but they made this girl from Panama smile. read more

Any time I'm in Ankeny, I try to pick up groceries at this Hy-Vee. It is always clean, stocked well, and the employees are polite. The wine and spirits section has a good choice of everything that you could want, especially seltzers. This is one of the Hy-Vees that seem to have gone towards expanding their offerings, but hasn't hit the levels other have with nail salons and shoe stores, for which I'm very thankful. I don't need it to be a "one stop shop". Focus on what you supply and supply it well and that's what I want. read more

I know times are tough as far as finding workers. But good lord. I go to Hy-Vee for two things - the meat and deli counter. That kid they recently hired for the meat counter reminds me of Jeff Spiccoli from Fast Times at Ridgemont High. "I need three New York Strips." The kid: "uhhhh, what?? Ummm, uhhh..." Another new kid in that department is incredibly rude. The one older gentleman who's worked there for a while is always who I'm hoping is there. I ask for a pound of smoked turkey at the deli. Two of the guys who work there know me and know exactly what I want. Always a pleasure. The two new kids - one spent nearly two minutes trying to put the meat inside the bag before the other guy had to come help him. The other new kid, instead of placing the wax paper on the scale, weighing the meat, then placing it in the bag, just grabs the meat and places it directly in the bag. And god forbid, don't ask them about the specials advertised upfront or in coupons. That will confuse them beyond repair. Fareway is a lot further away. But it's getting to the point that, for my own sanity, I may have to take the longer drive. read more

Every time I have ordered food at their hot food area I have been satisfied with the hot products and the cold products. I have asked them a couple times to add more or just ask for the hot items without sides. They have accommodated all my requests with a smile. I just want to thank them for going out of their way to please a customer. I would recommend them to anyone that needs a quick meal with enough varieties to please you and your family read more

HyVee is an employee owned grocery store that started out in Chariton, Iowa. See pic. It is now based in West Des Moines Iowa. I was here early to get some chicken, potatoes, onions, carrots and celery for a crock pot recipe. Everything was readily available and easy to find. Fairly good prices, too! Very family friendly. Friendly staff. Clean. Well laid out. They also have a gas station and Market Cafe at this location. Plenty of parking. Marcydiner tantrum scale of 5/5-no screaming kids. Checkout was fast, too! They had sweet yellow onions and golden yellow potatoes available, which are both going to make an excellent chicken and veggies dish! read more

Ordered a champagne birthday cake from them. The cake was all frosting and hardly any cake. It tasted nothing like the champagne cake I use to order. It was super dry and thin topped off with super sweet frosting. I will never order a cake from them again! read more

Well thanks Hy-Vee, I got a message 2 days ago I was going to have fuel saver points expire, and I went to fuel up today and they already expired. Lost 20 cents. Just to be fair, I have been banking fuel saving with Casey's for over a year and they never expire! read more

This grocery store is Amazing. Huge selection, they have it ALL, The butcher dept has a great selection of ready to cook (cut, seasoned / stuffed) pork chops, chicken breasts, twice-baked potatoes, stuffed mushroom caps, stuffed peppers and much more, they have it all !!! Great prices too !!! Clean store & very nice staff. I'll be going there exclusively for the next 4 months while I'm here in town. Joe Sal Chicago IL. read more

Do NOT go here for a flu vaccine. The women they have giving them are untrained and spiteful. I've never had a shot administered the way one was given here. The nurse held it in her fist and jabbed hard. I'm afraid I might have shoulder complications now, and if I do I will be suing. Great job hyvee. read more

Nice big Hy-Vee to cater to all needs. Everything is in this location and I do visit often. I like how clean this place always is and the huge produce area is what I really enjoy. It is nice to have the restaurant added to this one and makes a great stop on weekend mornings for breakfast and grocery shopping all in one stop. Keep up the great work! read more

Produce used to be nice and fresh. Now for the past year, you have to dig through rotten peppers that are overpriced. Multiple Hyvees have declined in quality meanwhile fareway is advancing. read more

This place my be clean but they do not know how to treat their employees! I have heard that a lot of them are not getting enough hours and they keep hiring more people on, just so they don't have to pay overtime! Plus there is not a 'helpful smile' with a lot of employees. A lot of them look like they want noting more then to quit. Not only that but other then store managers and maybe the occasional other managers who never seem to have time for the customer I don't see a lot of help from managers! I just wish the people who work there get the hours they deserve and need! read more

Probably the nicest Hy-Vee in Iowa. Being too large can be a bad thing, but that's really my only complaint. Produce is always super fresh, getting a quick meal is awesome. The meat department spoils you with selection. I love the kinds of cheese they have (and all the samples). Cookies for kids, such a brilliant idea... other than my little one now having it always on her list (along with seeing the lobsters). The market grill is also exceptional. Awesome food for less, arguably the best atmosphere in Ankeny (odd that it's in a grocery store). Oh and the beer department rocks, discount card... they truly have a helpful smile everywhere. read more

I think my life is a little out of control. I'm writing reviews of grocery stores. To be fair though, this is a well deserved review. I've lived in 6 cities in the last few years and been to countless grocery stores (I REALLY like grocery shopping) and this Hy-Vee has to be one of the best. I basically assumed the Whole Foods in West Des Moines would be my #1 grocery store in all of the Des Moines area but this Hy-Vee is a serious competitor. Whole Foods has better prepared food but this Hy-Vee rivals (if not beats) in every other category. They have an entire cookware section, all the organic/gluten free/other bizarre dietary need sections, high end soaps (Brommer's for $12.99??), and honestly everything. Also, did I mention it's 24 hours? I can get frozen pizzas at 3 am again. Huzzah! read more

This Hy-Vee is just as great as the other ones in the state. I am usually buying my groceries from a Hy-Vee if I'm not close to a Walmart. Even after hours you can stop by here and grab their premade food and just heat it up. Hy-Vee is very community oriented and has their store be accommodating to everyone. This location is new and one of the best I've ever been to! It is big and clean! The food area is huge and offers a ton of great tasting meals! This is unlike any other Hy-Vee I have been to. Their staff members are always friendly and willing to help. The stores are kept clean and well stocked with the latest products read more

We love this place! This is our main go to when we go grocery shopping. Many of the Hy-Vee brand items are just as good as the original so we'll buy those when we can. The employees are super helpful and friendly. We always love coming here! From their beer/liquor selection to the deli/Chinese food, it's all amazing! Can't recommend this place enough! read more

Wow. Hy-Vee North Ankeny Blvd. manager Chris B. went above and beyond for my elderly mother and family! He and the staff helped get food and supplies when she couldnt leave the house during Covid-19 restrictions. They were so accommodating, reliable and communicative! Top of the line customer service. Thank you so much! read more

Sad to say but Hy-Vee produce over the last couple month is probably the worst on the market. Don't recognize the brands anymore and the quality is very poor. Whole Foods and even Fareway have continued to provide us with a great product. For the obvious price premium you pay to shop at Hy-Vee as a whole this should never be the case. Feels like they are trying to do to many new things and are certainly losing site of what they have always been good at. read more

They have so many things they do right, but somehow they always mess up at the end. You would think that bagging groceries would be simple and important. Over stuffing plastic bags, putting cans on top of eggs, putting rotisserie chicken in the same bag as frozen vegetables or placing the bread at the bottom and stacking other bags on top. This is the final impression of their service and it should be a good experience not a frustrating one. Target is starting to look better and better. read more

I like the little tableware they have for children, it's really handy for them. And, my grandson loves them and wanted to take them with him. read more

Hy-Vee - Grocery Near Me - Ankeny, Iowa

So, this is the new Hy-Vee in Ankeny. The prepared foods are nice the store is always clean. The market Grill. While it had some growing pains, now seems to be well run. So why only 3 stars? The store consistently has a problem with rotation. I can even begin to count the number of times I gotten home to find mold on fruit or milk on the shelf with a sell buy date of the next day or even expired. You shouldn't have to be double checking groceries as you buy them to make sure they are fresh. Today my spouse brought home a 4 pack of Kings Hawaiian rolls, and there was mold on the bottom. Now I'm not unreasonable. I worked at a grocery store for over a decade and most of that time was graveyard shifts stocking shelves. It's hard to keep up rotation. But the number of times there has been this issue at this store compared to the other Hy-Vee in Ankeny makes me concerned about the management. read more

My go to for a little bit of everything. I can get alot of in store specials, while getting fuel saver points on my gas puchases to boot! They have a deal a day everywhere an it helps to pinch the pennies! With the holidays comin, gotta ger stocked up an Candy is there aplenty!!! My favorite part is gettin covered an smothered hashbrowns with gravy an cheese, they even give you extra gravy if you ask! The huge bottles of Hellmans ranch dressing are the best buy I have ever found, an I eat it on everything!!! The people are always happy to help, quick an convenient, and I always find everthing I need!! Clean an comfy!! Get lots of huvee items for really good buys, plus the brands for grands game is goin on! You may get visited an get some money to boot!! Thsnx Hyvee, you keep me smiling!!! Close an personal! My kind a store!!! read more

Fantastic selection on everything. Never have an issue findings a parking space. I often park down by the liquor entrance, and I'm always blown away at the selection of craft beers and wines. Heading through the liquor entrance brings me out right by the Natural Foods section, where I do most of my shopping: milk, eggs, and snacks are always fresh. Great selection of non-GMO, gluten free meal bars for quick energy throughout the day. Never had to wait long in lines, and then Starbucks is right by the exit on the west side. Always have a good experience here :) read more

I ordered a shrimp roll that was supposed to be prepared hot and served fresh. I waited 45 minutes in the lot for it. I called and they called back before grabbing a cold one off the shelf and sending it out. Plus they charged $2 more for ordering it through the meals app. I could have gone into the store and grabbed a cold one if I wasn't paying for a hot made fresh one that they substituted with a cold one. read more

I attended a wedding with them as primary bar tender and caterer. I highly recommend them. Between food and booze service they are hard to beat. I want to give a personal shoutout to Amanda and Chelsi! Keep them around and see customers repeat. read more

My hubby and I love our local HyVee! Everything we need and so convenient! We are regulars at the Market Grill, they offer fantastic happy hours and dinner specials! Our favorite is the $10 NY Strip dinner night and the chicken quesadillas and tortilla chips and dip on the appetizer menu which are 1/2 price during happy hours! Try them out, and be sure to take advantage of the fuel saver card! read more

I am a big fan of this Hy Vee. This location is like the other Hy Vees in that you really do get a helpful smile in every isle. The store itself is new and clean and kept up well. It has groceries but it also has a restaurant gas station wine and spirits and lots of places to eat inside. The one negative of the store is that it is the most expensive grocery store in Ankeny. Overall shopping here is always a good experience. read more

I love this HyVee. The selection is amazing. There is a large cheese selection with some unique cheeses for a reasonable price. The bakery has a good selection of breads, cookies, cakes, and those yummy cupcakes and muffins. The health food section is large with a lots of choices for most foods. And I really like that I can come here for food, pick up local products like salsa, get flowers to say I'm sorry, and do my banking all in one place. read more

Oh, my gosh, what a gorgeous grocery store! This place is huge! I think they have every kind of food product a person could possibly want to purchase here! They have the standard grocery items, bulk foods, butcher counter, bakery, dairy, etc that you expect in a market. But, they also have a restaurant, Starbucks, a Sushi Bar, a Gelato Bar. Holy Smokes! The store is clean and very well maintained. It is also quite new. True to the HyVee jingle, there is "a helpful smile in every aisle". The parking lot is large and easy to get in and out of. They also have a gas station on the premises, where you can fill up for a discount when you buy advertised items using their fuel saver card. I must say, the HyVee stores in Lincoln, Nebraska (and some of those are pretty nice, actually) but they look practically ghetto when compared to this place! read more

I'd been told how wonderful Hy-Vee was and decided to compare it to my familiar southern options. I was super impressed! Besides the cleanliness and friendly workers, the variety was unreal! I think I would live in the "healthy section" exclusively. I strolled down each aisle to look at all the options before checking out the rest of the massive store. Since it was early in the morning, the bakery and prepared food areas were bustling with workers putting out fresh food and it smelled divine. The fresh fruit and breakfast yogurt section blew me away! I was very impressed. It was like all three of my favorite Florida grocery stores combined under one roof PLUS a Starbucks with smiling and fast staff. Made for a fantastic morning experience! read more
