This new Hy-Vee is in the new Southwestern commercial district of Ankeny. It is a huge, beautiful new building. It has a gas station and pharmacy and bakery and restaurant and dry cleaners and everything else. I think it is the largest grocery store I have ever gone into. Everything is new and clean and high tech and stylish. It is an amazing store. They charge regular Hy-Vee Grocery Store prices so it is competitive with other local stores. It has a huge parking lot. It is on the Northwest corner of a very busy intersection just West of the Des Moines Area Community College. It is just a short distance South of the big John Deere Factory that makes cotton pickers and crop sprayers. The store is busy almost all the time. It is open 24 hours, 7 days a week. read more

I hope a manager reads review. I live within 5 minutes of the store so I really appreciate the proximity and am at the store at least weekly. Most days I have a really pleasant experience however, today was quite the swing and the miss. I was wanting to try a few new recipes and was unable to find Cacao nibs or plantain chips. Asked for help but to no avail, none were to be found in the store. Then when I was checking out, my checker Jillian (since 2015) didn't say hello and did not ask if I found everything okay (like every other person does every other time). She scanned my items and then turned around and started talking. I was waiting for her to ask me for my rewards card and she never did. At the end of the transaction she didn't even look up from what she was doing while saying, "thank you". This is so unlike every other experience I have ever had. Most checkers make eye contact and are genuine and pleasant and ask all those helpful questions. I would encourage a manager to give a refresher training session on CS to her. read more

Banana Bread is actually Pumpkin Bread...Prarie Trail Hy-Vee has surprised me twice this month...where do I find actual banana bread???

I love my HyVee! I recently moved back to the Des Moines area from Texas and walking into HyVee was so nice and familiar. I recently started meeting with Anne, the dietitian at the Ankeny store on State and Oralabor. She's been wonderful to work with and has been a great source of information. She's helping me identify pitfalls in my eating habits and helping me come up with healthy solutions. After meeting with her, I cannot recommend enough the importance of periodically meeting with a dietitian. The industry is coming out with healthy alternatives so fast - it's great having a resource to navigate the aisles. Another wonderful service of HyVee! read more

I love all Hy-Vee stores. I live closest to this one. The employees are very helpful. I have also ordered online. It's very easy and convenient. The Market Grill is a great place to eat. They have great prices for happy hour on appetizers. Great store to shop. read more

20 minutes in line. Three lines for over 50 people. Just now. Not one employee seems to care or even try working in an efficient or half attempting manner. Very nice hyvee, but this trip soured the milk. Will never be back read more

The new HyVee in town. Huge and a huge pain in the tail to park. Once inside it is a great shiny new grocery. The Markey Grille is ok. I am not a huge fan of going to the grocery to have a night out on the town. Large dining area. Outdoor seating when the weather permits. Buffet which is meh. Lots of choices at the food counter - pizza, chinese, gelato, etc... Large salad bar. Fresh salsas you can spoon up yourself. Same with the mac n cheese. Not sure how that can be sanitary given someone could walk by and spit in it. Nice concept but knowing our society I do not trust everyone to be as sanitary as I am. Lots of freshly made take and bake pizzas. Lots of fresh breads and pastries. The cheese counter is fantastic but again they leave cheese cubes out to taste test. Meat counter is great. Super friendly butchers. Always willing to help you find what you need. Walk your way through the aisles. There is a large section of pots and pans and various kitchen wares that one may need in a hot second. Lots of special dietary choices as well. Starbucks is located near the entrance/exit. Pharmacy and a bank also located up front. Wellness area is top notch. Lots of soaps and specialty items also available - think hippy or hipster. Liquor and beer available in its own section. Lots of tastings and special wine clubs and beer clubs to join. Some special events such as beer tastings paired with specialty foods such as beer cheese dip made with the beer you are tasting. Super friendly staff. Bottle/can return is great but if you hit it when it's busy just turn around and go away. Try another day. The staff working the room is great. Super friendly. Flowers also available along with plants and arrangements. If I lived closer I would frequent more often but it is busy and hard to navigate at peek times. read more

Easily one of the nicest Hy-Vees I've ever been in. The beer selection is exceptional and the Market Grille is very nice.

I have only great things to say about any Hy-vee! The staff is always very nice, and they have everything! Also helps that I use fuel saver- which is a no brainier if you shop here! read more

The Hyvee bakery on State St., Ankeny needs help...I stopped yesterday morning at 9am to get sprinkled donuts and they had nothing. Donuts,rolls looked old and dried out. The clerk said they were fresh but looked NASTY...go to Day Light Donuts from now on....Regina Murphy read more

Good grocery store with plenty of selection. Prices are very good. The music is somewhat annoying but not awful. This store can be crowded on weekends so I recommend getting here early. read more
