I was looking for falafel at the Hy-Vee in Ankeny and asked an employee for help. He led me to the frozen section where it should have been, but it wasn't there. He then brought over his manager, who didn't even know what falafel was. The manager proceeded to pull several other employees into the search, sending them on a wild goose chase. I waited nearly 40 minutes while staff wandered around looking for a product they clearly didn't know if they carried. The whole experience was unprofessional and a complete waste of my time. It is a terrific store in the center of Ankeny, and its customer service is elite. Modern, clean, and roomy, and they have everything that you might need, including banking and cleaners. However, its customer service elevates this place above its competitors. Erin does a great job leading her staff, and they have a Can Do mentality, evidenced by staffer Kristin, who went out of her way to aid me on Christmas Eve when preparing a huge meal that needed some gluten-free advice. Staffer Amanda was outstanding and fun while I checked out, making a crazy morning a lot easier to handle. I also love that they employ disabled and physically challenged staff. read more

The stores are clean. Those working in the store are professional and knowledgeable. They are ready to help you and answer any questions. I am able to find what I need when I need it. I prefer Hy-Vee as my go-to store. read more

Love the food options when I'm on the road. Fresh salads and fruit are typically what I purchase but they have hot meals such as fried chicken, meatloaf and Asian. Whatever suits you. When I'm on the road this is cheaper than dining out. read more

We are in communication by text while they are shopping my order suggesting substitutions. They are Friendly careful handling bags into my car. I shopped at the Hy-Vee on Ankeny Boulevard today. It was a disaster. The majority of the products were being moved from one area to another area. I couldn't find what I was looking for in the normal space so I ended up asking for help five times to find a particular product! There were so many workers in some of the isles that I had to back my car out of an aisle to another one. I'm not sure who's decision it is to move products, but it's a definite negative for us as a customer. We save time by knowing what product we want, where it is and putting it in our cart. read more

Used the pharmacy here for years, but just had to transfer all prescriptions because I could not deal with the lack of knowledge and communication. They've become the slowest pharmacy in town. The prices are usually highest here too compared with other pharmacy/retail chains. Good riddance. read more

Yes that is a photo of the new clothing department in hyvee! The prices are kind of high - but the clothes look like they are goid quality. I haven't purchased any clothes there bc i dont need anything they have. Theres cute kids clothes too! Theres something for every age. Theres even under garments and shoes. I like how they also started to sell dinnerware and more cooking tools. The other locations (like waukee) had already been selling that. Honestly, this Hy-Vee and their Aisles Online has been so valuable to us this year. Trying to play it safe, it became hugely important and valuable to use to have this service during a pandemic, but also I've found that it saves me the time and headache of having to maneuver through the store when busy. Sometimes my aisles online orders get shopped a little "funny" (they'll be out of all tortilla chips, for instance (no, they're not)), but overall I am so thankful and I keep coming back. Plus, everyone there is so nice. When I moved back to Iowa four years ago and went into Hy-Vee for the first time since I was little, I felt like I was in heaven. Coming from Chicago, I could not believe how nice and helpful everyone was. Hy-Vee for life! read more

Your pharmacy is the absolute worst! You should not allow customers to sit in the drive-through and wait 30 minutes for their order to be done. Tell them to come back in 30 minutes. It's not fair to the other people in line that cannot get out because of how your drive-through pharmacy is set up to have to wait because the person in front of them didn't do a good job of waiting for a text message to let them know their prescription was ready. Get it together. I have officially been sitting here for almost 45 minutes and can't move. read more

Hy-Vee pharmacy are always friendly and fast. They have pretty broad hours and many techs to answer any questions. They can fill most prescriptions super quickly. I love the more personal service here than at the larger chains where they know your name. They offer flu shots which are covered by most insurance plans and offer fuel saver with them. They have a decent selection of over the counter medications as well! Just ask if you need help! read more

I am actually borderline coming to this location because of this very reason and with the new HyVee not far from here, it is definitely worth the drive to shop at the new one. Salad bar has also been a great deal and good selection. But I do have a comment: Now that this store added a Market Cafe there is only one option for seating with no causal seating section like they use to have. So if you want a salad from the food line you have to go into the upscaled section, be seated by the hostess and have your drink order taken by the waitress. All I want to do is grab a quick bite for lunch before I have to go back to work but now I have to tip for just wanting to eat a salad that I had to get myself? There is a worker that I like going in and seeing when I go to the grocery store. Her name tag use to say Taylor M 2021 on it. Now it say Tay M on it. She one of my favorite because she always has a smile on her face even if she was there early in my morning at like 6 in the morning or if she was there at 6 at night. Taylor works as a cashier and I normally see her between 6 in the morning or 12:30 sometimes 1:00 some morning cashier don't make me feel like coming back when at the checkout. They don't have a smile on there face, they don't greet me, they don't ask about my day, and they don't ask me about my day. Taylor M year 2021 has always asked me about my day or my plans for any time of the day. I would love to see her move up in Hy-Vee as like a weekend only part time manager as I have heard she in school right now for hair. Also I have heard many good thing about Taylor from the head of the store - Jen Kopriva. I 10/10 recommend you make her a part time weekend manager of some department even if it not where she works now read more

While in town visiting my mom for Thanksgiving I was here at least 5 or 6 times....usually for Starbucks in the morning (they have a full service SB inside....yay!) or to pick up extra things we forgot for our T-day dinner. I always forget how genuinely nice people in Iowa are :) this Hy-Vee is no exception. I can't count how many times I was asked if I needed any help or just given a friendly hello! They also have a pretty fab selection of foods....from the usual suspects all the way to a full organic/whole foods section. A fantastic little cheese counter and a quite large wine room (ask for Sue....she is phenom and knows her vino!). Very happy with all my trips here.....will def be back when I'm in town! read more

I told him I was looking for oxtails and he said he was out but could have some Tuesday and when I came in it was as though he was waiting for me with the meat. This location is always super busy. The parking lot can be a zoo. I often worry about getting into a car accident. Inside the store there are a million employees roaming around, getting in the way and blocking paths between the customers and the store shelves. Overall, though, the customer service is pretty good, with friendly employees. You never have to wait too long in a checkout line. The store has a decent selection of items, featuring nearly everything you could want. read more

This is an older HyVee in the process of renovations. Some areas of the store definitely show wear, but it is clean and well maintained. Great selection and variety of items. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Very nice produce section. Parking lot is large with plenty of spaces. So jealous of all of you folks that have a Hy Vee in your town. They have everything and now they are starting to put bars in their stores! As other customers have remarked, this place is far too busy most of the time. Which makes most of the customers irritable. Which makes shopping here annoying sometimes. So I give it three stars even though it's not really their fault, we just apparently need more grocery retailing in the area. On the other hand, they're open 24/7, so you can get what you want any time. So if you can swing off-peak hours it's fine. But if you just need "a couple things" for dinner at 6pm, then good luck and bring lots of patience. With two local Fareways closed on Sunday, HyVee is about all there is, so it's a day to seriously avoid grocery shopping around here. read more

But they a still always helpful and willing to move things out of the way. I went to HyVee on Ankeny Boulevard to get a turkey for Easter. They had only "fresh" ones. I asked how fresh they were and I was told that they are NEVER frozen, on the truck to HyVee within a week. Well, when I got to the counter to check out, I noticed that part of the turkey was frozen!! The check out guy agreed that part of it was frozen! So, HyVee was deceptive about this, and of course, you pay more for a "fresh" one. I also got a spiral ham. Guess what! It was sliced only 1/2 way down!!! Felt very deceived by this store, esp regarding the turkey. You can't tell me that they do not know that the turkeys are frozen. It had to have been at least partially frozen when they put it in the "fresh" area of the meat area. I tried to contact HyVee headquarters, but can't find a "contact us" email address. read more

Overall, my favorite store to buy groceries. Close by my house and small enough that I don't have to wander thru huge gourmet aisles and cookware etc just to get my essentials (like at the larger HyVee here in town). I appreciate the shorter walk to my car and smaller parking lot as well although it can be a challenge to find a spot sometimes. I like the online ad feature, however when I wanted to just look up what price their donuts were a dozen for an early company meeting tomorrow, I could not find it listed under their bakery items prices (?). That is frustrating. I don't consider that convenient and I don't want to have to be on hold or make phone calls just to get one question answered. read more

I take a monthly prescription to control hypertension. Last month when my wife went to fill the prescription for me, HyVee in Ankeny did not have the prescription in stock. They were kind enough to locate it at the Walgreens nearby and transferred the prescription there. When they did so, they did not include the refills on the prescription. This month, I called the HyVee to get it refilled and they informed me it had been transferred to Walgreens. They asked if I wanted it transferred back. I said yes, of course, since I wanted to shop at HyVee. They proceeded to act as if it was my fault that they had to go through this process. Later, I called back only to find that they did not have authorization to refill, since when they transferred it they only allowed one fill. Upon retransfer they had no refills. Make sense? The store has good selection, but the size of the store is the only drawback for me. I like a smaller store and one where I can park closer to the store. read more

It was a Monday evening, and my wife asked me to pick up some eggs, milk, and some flour, so she could make cupcakes. I saw this Hyvee, and pulled in to get my things. Immediately, I noticed how uncared, and destroyed the pavement was. It looked like it was made before the wheel was invented. I looked around for at least 25 minutes just to find a parking spot that was semi-near to the front, and didn't have massive potholes in it. When I went inside, I smelled this AWFUL smell. It smelled like someone took a huge dump on the floor, dumped dead rats on it, and peed on it. Then I was greeted by a Ape like man/woman who looked like he/she hadn't shaved or showered in years. I asked him why it was in such bad condition, and he looked at me with an evil eye, and threw me 10 feet. He covered his badge, and ran away. When I got up, I noticed the produce. It looked like it was 3 weeks old! Finally, I had had enough, and ran out of the store. I reccommend Dhals! read more
