This is my go to stop for vegan staples, as they usually have the best prices in town on things like vegan cheese, seitan, tofu, ice cream etc..They carry a decent amount of Miyoko's products, actual cultured vegan butter! They also have a nice selection of bulk goods (they actually refrigerate nuts and seeds!) including spices and pantry staples. The prices always beat Hy-Vee's health market by quite a bit. The only thing I wished they carried that they don't is Just Mayo; Vegsnaise isn't as good and is much more expensive. Their produce selection is quite small, but I don't go here for produce. They also have a huge vitamin selection, they even carry vegan d3 which can be hard to source locally. Also, they carry my fave vegan makeup brands like Zuzu Luxe and Gabriel, and they also carry cruelty free hair dye by Naturtint as well as a good selection of vegan friendly personal care products. They also hold classes here that focus on nutrition and cooking healthy meals and the employees are always friendly. read more

This store is awesome and in my opinion better than Whole Foods. We were in the neighborhood and drove by this store. The name of the store peaked our interest so we decide to check it out. The store is relatively new. The grand opening was February 9. We didnt purchase any fruits or vegetables but we did check them out and they looked very fresh. Many of the products here cannot be found at Whole Foods. While checking out their frozen meats section, we saw that a lot of the meats were from companies in Iowa. I love that this store supports local businesses! Their frozen meats section had a lot of different types of meats (including buffalo and chorizo) seasoned with natural ingredients. There were a lot of organic products here as well. We found some crackers that were imported from Israel and all of the ingredients in that were natural. They even have a beauty section with lotions, oils, etc. The employees here were very nice and many of them offered to help us find products. Prices for everything in the store were very reasonable!! We visited this store not planning to buy anything but we ended up buying a whole bunch of stuff. This store does not have shopping bags so remember to bring your own reusable bag. They do have boxes though in case you forget your shopping bag (similar to costco where they box up your items). Upon check out I grabbed a flyer which explained how this store even came to be. Apparently the owner of this chain had suffered chronic illness that was not curable through conventional medicine. Instead she healed herself by eating natural foods that were nutrient dense. I am a strong believer of holistic healing and eating natural foods to be well. I'm so glad this store is in Clive!! I wish it would come to Chicago too! read more

Natural Grocers in Clive has amazing employees. They are always bright and cheerful and willing to help find a product. Natural Grocers takes a lot of care to offer products they stand behind. The prices are often as good or better (food and non-food) than Amazon so why would I not shop for those items here?! read more

We've become regulars here over the last year. Love that all of their produce is organic. You can find discounted items in certain areas of the store. (Meats, eggs, bread, produce..) they have an awesome bulk organic/non GMO section too with pre packaged 'bulk' items like dried fruits, nuts, seeds, oats, etc. You can access their NPower Flyer on their website. I love this store! This is where you go to get health market foods at normal prices. My gluten-free and dairy-free staples are all here, usually for $1-2 cheaper than Hy-Vee or Whole Foods. They've got all of the same (and more) health market brands that you'll find at the other Des Moines health food stores, too. I love the use of boxes over bags. We always bring our own, and they sell burlap/recycled bags up by the doors, too. We actually bought 2 of their burlap bags for $5 each, and I'd have easily paid $20 for them. They're our favorite bags, and they hold so much! Our Natural Grocers bags are our go-tos when we're shopping *anywhere*. Staff is always in a positive and helpful mood. The store is always clean and organized, and the produce section (while small) is always sightly and displayed well. Oh, they've also got a complementary coffee room, and in the back of the store, they also have a small library of health and other helpful books. This place is legit! read more

I was in this store last week and noticed that they did not have a sign requesting people to wear a mask. About 1/3 of the customers were maskless while I was there. This is totally irresponsible for a health food store during a pandemic! I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

I walked in to buy vitamins and left $77 later with all the food I can't find at other stores in town. If you're the person who likes convenience food but have food allergies, this place is your jam! Some of the frozen dinners are HALF the price that they are at HyVee. Also, my holistic health care providers swear by their selection of supplements and probiotics. I found some homeopathic allergy tablets that I've been waiting for Campbell's to carry and for less. read more

I have been a shopper at Natural Grocer for many years, having started as a customer when the new location opened in Iowa City. I have been a very loyal customer. I greatly appreciate their strictly organic produce and enjoy the reasonable prices. Unfortunately, after an experience I had today in their store in Clive, I will be shopping elsewhere. When shopping in the produce section, four new customers walked in without any facial coverings at all. Being someone with a family member that has been immunocompromised recently, I calmly asked a Natural Grocer employee for support. The employee declined, said that they do not ask any customer to wear a mask, but encouraged me to negotiate with the maskless to wear a mask and directed me to where I could find their masks. Not surprisingly, given that I have no authority in the store, the four people all refused and then laughed in my face and made rude comments to my spouse. Essentially, Natural Grocer is putting the onus of safety onto their customers, which is clearly going to create altercations. Why would Natural Grocers not want all of their customers to feel a level of safety? As a privately owned business, they have the ability to require facial coverings! Multiple employees in the store were only wearing facial shields and no masks. This sends a pretty clear message to the customers about expectations and how much Natural Grocers actually cares about the safety. You can do better, Natural Grocers! read more

Love this place! The prices and selection are some of the best in the metro. For those who have joined the celery juice consumption train, this is the cheapest celery I've found and the stalks are HYUGE. Normally it is .99/lb, on sale it is .89/lb. They have a bigger selection than Trader Joe's and prices better than Whole Foods & HyVee. The green Granny Smith apples are around 1.49/lb, HyVee sells these for about 1.29 per apple. The tea, supplement, and bath sections are great.They have deals often that come through email so sign up for the notifications. They also offer speakers and cooking tutorials in the store. For those who prefer to pay with credit, their system is designed to process debit transactions so if you are paying with a debit/credit card you will need to do a manual transaction. Not a huge deal but it took me a couple of trips to figure out what was going on. read more

I love grocery stores. I love going in and wandering around and seeing things I've never cooked with before and looking up new recipes using those items. (Can you say, "run on sentence."?) This store is perfect for that. It's probably my favorite grocery store in town. If you ask, you can even get their produce scraps for composting. I have gotten scraps from them to feed my iguana. Fresh veggies and fruit for an iguana can be real expensive and it doesn't keep super long so this has saved me! They are devoted to organic products, which I also love! My top tip? Their brand of nutritional yeast is the best I've ever had out of all the brands I've tried. Plus it's cheaper and in a big bag! Oh, golden 'cheesy' goodness... How I love you. Kombucha selection here is so ginormous that my head has exploded. It's true. I no longer have a head. The employees here are also superstars! Very knowledgeable and friendly. TLDR: go here for great customer service, kombucha, and great grocery items. You won't regret it. read more

This place is awesome. They such a great variety of things and prices. I came here looking for vegan protein powder and was pretty impressed by the selection. They have alot and some even offer a sample size to buy. I did look around the store and they have alot of good competition pricing when it comes to other health stores. If you are looking for a variety of natural products, fresh produce, kombucha, and other feel good things, this place is for you! Very nice, clean store with many natural food options. Reminds me of a trader joes because of the small size and homey feeling. The prices were reasonable for health food. The cashier provided me with awesome customer service and checked my eggs for me which one had a crack and she went out of her way to get me another one. We moved here last summer from Colorado where Natural Grocers was our main grocery store and we have been anxiously awaiting this store's grand opening - it did not disappoint! They have a nice produce selection and their selection of organic, gluten free, and vegan products is huge. They have the best prices of any health food store hands down. The staff was friendly and helpful and they have a test kitchen area where they give free cooking classes and demonstrations which sound awesome. My former coworkers and I loved the variety of dark chocolate and tea that they have - the perfect afternoon pick me up. Check out this store and bring your own bags! read more

I stopped into Natural Grocers for the first time this weekend and boy was I happy that I did. Upon entering this new grocery store, I noticed the huge selection of colorful ORGANIC produce. I was pleasantly surprised to see that ALL of the produce was organic and that they didn't carry any conventional non-organic produce. The prices on the produce were not astronomical which I found out was because they get all of their produce directly from the producer which keeps the price low. As I perused down the aisles I also noticed that the selection of vitamins and supplements is one of the best I have seen in Des Moines. Many times when I am shopping for supplements, I find that the mark-up is astronomical compared to the price you can get it online for, but not here! The prices on the supplements are not too far off the prices of the same supplements online. Score! They also have a really great selection of organic, vegan, and gluten free packaged foods. The staff is very friendly and go out of their way to make you feel welcome and help you out if you have any questions. This is my new favorite grocery store in the Des Moines area and I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for good organic produce. read more

This is a new addition to the natural grocery store scene in Des Moines. Overall, the prices seem slightly cheaper than Whole Foods. The store is smaller, which I like, and very clean and organized. Prices at Fresh Thyme seem a little cheaper, however, Natural Grocers has very high standards in terms of what they sell (like only organic produce, etc.). I love that they have done all the research on the products, so I don't need to constantly be reading labels. read more

It is a pretty nice store. They have decent prices. Comparable to whole foods and Campbell's Nutrition store. I roamed around and picked out some items, and when I got to the checkout, I waited about 5-8 minutes and no one helped me. There were two women right in view of me, yet none helped. So I left.
