I usually go to another one but this time I drove 25 minutes extra to visit this but to ky disappointment this costco is really bad. I like this Costco. The employees are very friendly! Heads up - The ovens have been down for at least a few weeks though so you can't get cookies, pizza, or any baked food from the food court. The feeble attempt to squeeze in all those tables, and then throw in a white Honda van right outside the tire store was pathetic. Probably need to consider moving the tire store to another location, so you can expand the food court, customer service desk, and exit lanes. read more

This is a good Costco. Until you get in line and the staff doesn't care if people cut you in line. A lady this last Saturday(25 January) walked next to the line in between me and the couple ahead of me. When we got to the front and it was the next person in line's turn to start self check out the one lady at the start of self checkout asked who was next. I said I was, and she asked the cutter if she was in line. I said 'She's not in line.' And the staff person said are you in line and of course the cutter said yes. So the staff lady let her go first. The staff person didn't say anything else. Thanks Costco. Not like I don't have somewhere else to be. Maybe get another staff member to play line guard or be in charge of this crap. read more

I have used Costco gas in many places across the country and at this particular place It was clean and well attended with staff a available to help you in no matter what type of situation you may need. Costco in general has very good covid-19 practices in all their staff were masked as well. The quality of the gas is excellent especially for the price point that they ask for and if you need to use premium gas it's a really good value. I recommend using Costco not only for the quality of their goods and their gas but how they treat their staff and give them a livable wage with healthcare and benefits I always want to support a large retail Box store that does that type of thing read more

I am not a Costco fan. I absolutely despise how incredibly busy this warehouse is. No matter what day or time I go it is too busy. Even on a rainy evening, an hour before closing it is BUSY! I don't know how or why other moms of multiple kids enjoy coming here. The savings and prices are comparable to their competitor. Costco just offers more of the item you're buying for a few more cents or dollars but it still equals out the same when you divide it down per unit or whatever the measurement is. Service at the service desk is mediocre. Nothing extraordinary. They treat ya like any other number. They definitely make you feel bad for returning things. Service at the check out lines are slow. There's never enough help to check out customers. You see lines and lines of people at every check out lane that's open (which is like 3 or 4). The cashier treats you like any other number. Probably because they are always busy and so they don't have the mindset of being extra friendly or helpful. They don't offer a military discount for their membership on their executive membership option. We paid $110 for the executive membership. We also signed up during a promotion to receive $55 credit back on the Visa card. This $55 credit back takes up to 12 weeks to receive. I learned that you must have an active membership to keep their visa card. Otherwise if you cancel the membership you forfeit the credit card and all the rewards you racked up if it is canceled before a year. When you sign up as a new member you are supposed to receive coupons for certain items in the store for free. They tell you you should receive these coupons in the mail within a month. But I have not received these coupons. Their Costco Citi Visa card does offer good rewards and cashback. 4% cashback for fuel at Costco fuel or any qualifying gas station. 3% cashback for restaurants. 1% cashback for any other purchases. The only thing I like about Costco are the brands they carry. And yeah ok, they carry SOME organic items. But so does their competitor. But it's not enough to keep me as a customer. Maneuvering in the store is ok since it has wide aisles but when you go at a busy hour it's like you're maneuvering through the Iowa State Fair! Same as their parking lot. Just driving BY their parking lot is a hassle. Costco should work on their customer service and figure out ways to make shopping more convenient. Example: more cashiers, more open lanes, an online ordering and pick up at store system, or an app checkout system on our phones. I'm not a fan and I would not recommend Costco. Absolutely done with this place. 10 years I've belonged. I'm sick of their anal mask policy and liberal agenda. As a nurse we don't enforce masks near as crazy as they do there. My whole family is so tired of it none of us are renewing our memberships. There's nothing more irritating then a food store employee telling me (8 months pregnant and a nurse of 12 years) to wear a mask. If I was so scared and thought a mask would save my life then I probably wouldn't be able to do my job. So next time Costco employees- you have no medical knowledge or experience, you spent half the year hiding in your homes on unemployment and now to be giving advice to me?. I have a hard time choosing a star rating. What I don't like isn't their fault. I made the mistake of going on a Sunday afternoon. Too flipping many people! And if you're in that kind of a place, for the love of God, don't just stand there in the middle of the aisle. Get out of the way! I went through the store and had one item. I finally got to the check out lane, and saw the lines, and decided screw that I don't need it that bad. My other problem with this store is everything is in giant bulk. You need to go with friend or family and hopefully you can agree on items to split and share. I don't like to eat the same thing that much that I can justify spending more on a giant portion of something. I need to make sure next time I go it's on a Monday or Tuesday afternoon and take some friends with me. I didn't interact with staff since I didn't check out. read more

I pay for the privilege to shop there. If you're going to train your employees to pride themselves on "mask-enforcement," don't you dare let someone with a nasty, stained fabric diaper over their face, try to approach anyone and preach about "health and safety." And your mask requirement is ridiculous by the way. Bacterial pneumonia is more deadly than COVID, and the state of Iowa has no mask mandate. Recommend a mask all you want, but don't harass people and try to enforce it like it's law, because it's not. Also, your produce section was a disaster. Your employees would probably perform better without their oxygen flow being restricted. read more

If you like wholesale you only have to worry about two options. Costco is almost the only reason I make the trip out to Mills Civic Pkwy area. I really enjoy the deals I can find there. If you take your time, do the math they have great options. I always hit up Costco for things like toilet paper and paper towels because we eventually go through them. It's nice to even have the gas a little lower sometimes being a member. Keep your eyes open and hit them up during the early afternoon for all the food freebies on the weekends. I shamelessly love going to Costco. My parents have been members here since it opened, and one of my favorite weekly rituals is tagging along with my mother when she goes to buy groceries. My tips: Go on a Friday afternoon or Saturday, they have alllllll the free samples out. Recently, Costco has STEPPED UP their vegetarian and vegan option game. I have been complaining for years that veggie "chicken" nuggets don't come in bulk. WELL FOLKS, now they do, and they are available at Costco. As well as vegan "burgers" and other meatless entrees. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and many times have gone above and beyond for my mother and my family. The facility is always clean. Costco is great everywhere, and this location is no exception. The staff here are always incredibly helpful and friendly, and I have a good experience every time I shop here, which is often. What's sort of odd, though, is that the least-friendly employees all seem to be put together at the snack bar. It's not that they're unfriendly, they're just...very short. There is no cordiality whatsoever. They look at you, you tell them what you want and they give it to you, then they ask if you want your receipt. This place has super sized items. It is a warehouse place that requires a membership to purchase items from them. They do have a pharmacy, optical, fresh meat/produce and bakery. They have furniture and they sell and install tires. The have all kinds a super sized food and an extensive electronics department. The also have seasonal items including live clitheplants and bushes. Each month they issue coupons that discount their products even more. If you don't see what you need at the store go online as they have much, much more online. They have trips online that I hear are amazing. Lastly they have a small counter serving food too. People come sometimes just to have a jumbo slice of pizza or jumbo hot dog as the price can't be beat! The only draw backs are that they are very busy all the time and the parking lot is very busy and the check out lines sometimes are long. read more

Oh the allure of bulk purchasing. Something about it really sucks you in. But Costco is more than mass quantity (but seriously, who wants to run out for toilet paper all the time); they have other services like a tire shop, optical, pharmacy, photo printing and a food counter. But for your everyday household needs, the Kirkland brand is a great value and on par quality with name brands. The produce, dairy and meat are priced right and high quality. I love their return policy and the fact that if you don't have a receipt but a ballpark date you purchased, they can look you up. Just a word of caution, while some items are a great value, you might not always be getting a bargain; so, it helps to pay attention to how much you pay per unit at other places to run the math, especially if the item is perishable. read more

This is the only Costco that I've even been to but, since my kids were born (7 years ago) I have been obsessed. Some highlights of why you must become a Costco member: 1. Rotisserie chicken for $4.99. If you need a quick, healthy meal...this is the way to go. Grab a few veggies or a pre-made side and boom...inexpensive dinner with little preparation. 2. Big party on a budget? Look no further. A giant sheet cake for $20 that taste better or as good as any bakery (opt for vanilla with cheese cake filling) and crescent roll sandwiches. Add a veggie tray, loaded potato salad, chips, and a variety of drinks and boom party time. 3. The world's best staff. Seriously, these guys are amazing. They are helpful, kind, and knowledgeable. A lot of the staff has been there since I started going. The interview process is tough because they pay so well and have great benefits! 4. Travel. We always book through Costco travel. We just got back from the worlds best week long trip to Mexico for 1,250 a person (including flights). 5. Baby needs. Clothes, diapers, and formula...I saved a ton on the must have items when my kids were young. 6. The Kirkland brand. The best off brand in the country. From bacon to dishwasher soap...they have the best prices on quality products. My husband swears by the golf balls and rumor has it their vodka is the same as grey goose. Overall, Costco is my first stop for groceries and household needs. There are only 2 cons: 1. Weekend and holiday crowds. It can get crazy. It can be hard to move. I highly suggest a weekday for easy shopping. 2. Buying is bulk doesn't always mean savings! If you aren't sure if you will like an item, don't buy it in bulk. We have had a few boxes of food go to waste because we didn't like a product as much as we thought. Some items aren't even that much cheaper! Though I live about an hour from the store, my partner and I visit it often. They have a nice variety of items that we use. (Love, love, love the mango, peach salsa....and the hummus.....and the whole grain breads...and the cheap liquor prices) Unfortunately, some things just aren't practical for two people to buy in bulk, but we can justify membership with the items we do use. As retirees, we have the ability to visit on weekdays and I highly recomment avoiding the long lines of the weekends and evenings. When I lived in Ohio, I was a member of Sam's Club. There is NO comparison on the customer service of the two stores. I will always choose Costco over the other Warehouse Stores. I love the corporate vision and the way employees are valued as opposed to the Wal-Mart (Sam's Club) world. read more

I love Costco cause they have a ton of stuff for you to blow your money on! They usually send a book coupons every couple weeks which makes you go there even though you don't need anything lol. Ok, I understand that it is Costco and there is nothing more that I could tell you that you don't already know. Well, I am just going to point out a few things that I've noticed as I've been shopping here over the past year or so. 1. The staff here are easily some of the nicest people I've encountered. I have had a few minor issues that I've needed to talk with the customer service staff about, and they have always been personable, incredibly helpful, and go above and beyond to resolve my issue. 2. I have been shopping here for myself personally and for work related things in the same shopping trip. Having to separate my personal things and work things have never been a issue, including the differing payment methods for them. I'm not sure if it is a regular thing, but the staff had always made the process seamless. 3. If you are getting allergy meds any where else, stop it immediately. I have never had allergies until moving to the midwest and quickly learned that it costs a small fortune to buy meds for it... until shopping here. Allegra and Zyrtec (and non-brand equivalents) are a fraction of the price, especially considering the quantity you get. 4. Dog food... grain-free options at a fraction of the price of getting it at pet stores and my pup loves every bag I've brought home. Not sure if these scenarios will help you and what your needs might be at Costco, but there it is. It is just me, my husband, dog, and cat at home, so I rarely leave here with a cart full of things, but the things I do come for are absolutely worth the membership. read more

I love their meat counter. I'm not even sure anywhere else in town sells Prime cuts to the public. Nothing better then a grilled steak and Costco does a great job of finding great beef. I love going on the weekends they set up this mobile seafood cart that has Tiger shrimp, Dungess Crab, King crab leg, and scallops. Get what you want for one meal or buy a lot and freeze some. They also make up salads and I really like their cilantro lime shrimp. I hide it in the back of the refrigerator so the family doesn't see it before I eaten at least half. I found pork belly here!! You can make your own bacon or crisp-in it up for a Pho, ramen, or buffalo pork. The selection of items on Costco shelves are amazing. Always quality whether its a shirt or olive oil. It's really nice to wonder the aisles and find something you haven't tried or seen before, I really like trying new things and Costco can provide that. Their prices on alcohol seem great until you realize they don't sell the larger bottles like Sams does, but charge the same price, 750 ml vs 1.5 liter. However their prices and unique selection of wines is un-comparable to anywhere else in town except maybe Wine Styles. I've found wines here you can't purchase any where else in DeMo. I really wanted to give them a 5 star rating, but if you've ever been here on a weekend you'll know what I'm talking about. The lines to pay are unbelievably long beyond comprehension. They do their best to get you moving, but they just don't have enough registers or staff. Don't go if your buying just one item leave that to a Monday night. read more

Horrible, horrible experience with Costco. My advice is if you can see it and put it in your cart great. Do not order anything from them. If anything goes wrong they will not help you! All you can do is call the 800 # wait two hours on hold or wait for them to call you back. to be told they will try to do something but pretty much just want you off the phone and won't do anything. They owe me over $2000.00 for a appliance order I never received, they agreed it was severely mishandled and would cancel the order over 10 days ago still no refund issued. I learned the hard way don't buy trips, services, cars etc because all you will here is we can't help you. Love this place. All their products are high quality and at great prices. Their alcohol is way cheaper also. Organic selection is through the roof and if you compare it to regular store prices, you are getting organic food for less than nonorganic somewhere else! Toilet paper, paper towels, electronics. As I was walking in, an employee stopped me and took out left over napkins, wipes, sample cups he saw in my basket, that he knew were obviously not mine (as I was barely making my way inside). I mean, WOW! Seriously, I know ALL Costco give great customer service, but THIS COSTCO went above and beyond, with that kind gesture. I love Costco. I can get organic juice, pizza skins (and sauce), lettuce, vegan milk... all my faves! For super cheap. Since we are a family of 3 - well, 2 and 1/2, little buddy lives on human milk for now, we split a lot of stuff up with my parents so we don't have a crazy amount of stuff sitting around. My dad loves the samples, I love when the vitamix is on display so I can drink smoothies. Also, cheap, organic veggies in the frozen department! For us it is worth the membership fee! read more

Because of the holidays, this has taken me awhile to post... So, a few years ago, my wife and I cancelled our memberships after trying to renew in Reno, NV because they were trying to REQUIRE us to buy an Executive Membership. They said they only sell Executive Memberships now. I called BS and left, got a Sam's Club Membership and haven't been back. Fast forward to 11/21/2015 at 6:34 p.m., my wife and I have moved to Des Moines, IA. I don't particularly care for the Sam's Club/Wal-Mart business practices, so I thought I'd give Costco another chance. This is regarding the location 7205 Mills Civic Parkway West Des Moines, IA 50266 and the associate Ian W., as printed on the receipt info: Whse: 788 Trm: 191 Trn: 26 Op: 616 My wife and I told Ian we wanted to sign up for a basic membership. He proceeded to tell us about the Executive Membership. I told him that I'm sorry, but we only want the Goldstar Membership. I was not rude, and I did listen and let him get out his obviously required spiel. He was very happy to do it. I held him at no fault at this point. But when I told him there is no way we are going to sign up for the Executive Membership today, he raised his eyebrows and turned to his computer and began PUNCHING the keys while saying "Whatever, suit yourself man." I didn't respond. I hate confrontation. Even if I may benefit from getting the Executive Membership, I refuse to do it because of the way Costco has treated me in the past and the way they obviously push their employees to oversell. If I say I don't want it, I don't want it. I've signed up for Sam's Club's Plus Membership because I read up on it on my own and it benefited me. How about when I ask for a new membership or to renew, you train your employees to ASK: "Would you like to hear the difference between the Goldstar and Executive Memberships?" And then let the customer CHOOSE. Your employees are NOT HAPPY having to push customers to the point of annoyance! So please, treat them better and don't give them incentives to sign people up for Executive Memberships. This customer has unfortunately, after the holidays, decided to go back to Sam's Club. I don't like supporting the Sam's Club/Wal-Mart group, but at least at Sam's Club, I'm not pressured at all, at any time, for anything. I have been a member for a few years now and still really like this place a lot. I've gotten more used to their seasonal specials, like January health and fitness discounts. Knowing these seasonal sales can help you save even more. I really enjoy the selection and are always finding new things to try out. It is a very popular location, so crowds, especially weekends, for both in store and parking cause some significant crowding. Staff is friendly and helpful. Certain memberships earn you a rebate on your purchases, so keep that in mind if you plan to be a regular shopper. The meat selection is great with standards and also other more unique items.
