My family has shopped here since Costco was "Price Club" and we have had no negative experiences! When I contrast that with the times I go into FRY's or Safeway, it's just about unbelievable to experience the difference. The only, and obvious, downside to Costco is managing the quantities for a smaller family. That becomes minor in contrast to the overcharging and coupon messes encountered at traditional food stores. I avoid the local food stores (except Winco and Aldi occasionally) because the constant 'mistakes' at the checkout are maddening. It just isn't worth the attention required with each item...checking to be sure the price rang up accurately. The people working at Costco are consistent! They are well paid and enjoy their work, and that has always made my experience in the store nearly effortless. Obviously, crowds can be a navigation nightmare. But, over time we have learned to go midweek and take advantage of the early access for Exec members. Maybe not for everyone, but for anyone who's been in the coupon and 'online savings' system, Costco is truly a sanity saver! read more

I rated this place 5 star but today they took 4 stars away. I usually try to not make an issue out of a small thing but today multiple people destroyed my experience at this particular costco. One lady was handing over sample muffins and I stood like 10 minutes infront of her to get my sample. She didn't acknowledge she didn't say give me a second or anything else and the moment I move she out them out for other people. My bank had stopped the transaction at the checkout due to fraud alert and I asked for a second to call the bank and get it resolved but the supervisor had really bad attitude issue and said put ky cart aside and kinda disregarded everything. There are two Costco locations in the metro, and this is the one with the best parking lot. Yes, that does make a difference! It's in a newer development area, so there's hardly any traffic on a weeknight. I do think this location has gotten more popular over time, but still very spacious! read more

Bulk, bulk, bulk bulk I've been coming to Costco for years. Mostly for food and things like paper towels. They have a little of everything. Clothes, appliances, electronics, alcohol, bakery. This new Ankeny location is such a blessing. Having a closer location is nice. I have the main goal of food items when I go. I can usually get out of there for under $200 and have what I need for a month. I also enjoy the freebie food tasters they have throughout the store. If you're thirsty while you get lost in the warehouse, they have a consession. They have cheap food and drinks. You can get a thing of bottled water for $.25. Today, I got to hang out and eat here because, for the first time, I took advantage of Costco tires. Good deal and good tire program. The service throughout Costco had always been great. I like to make pleasant small talk at check out and see if I can make them smile. Not every Costco inventory is the same. There are a couple of things I used to see in the WDSM location that I never see in Ankeny, but the majority is there. I'll keep coming and I'll keep hitting up the cheaper gas that they also have. read more

Honestly this is the least chaotic Costco and easiest to navigate of all the ones I've been to. It has good prices, is always clean and organized, and they can even help you find items at other Costco locations if they don't have what you need in stock. The workers are friendly and helpful and pretty easy to locate when needed. read more

Horrible. Customer Service! We went to Costco Ankeny location (3/4/25 1pm) and the guy at the door was very rude. We've always gone in through the exit door for years! At every Costco. The guy yelled at us, stopped us and said "you can't go in without a membership" he didn't even know if we had one or not! Then he said "Go to the other door, you don't come in through here" Everyone looked at us because the way he said it, sounded like we were stealing something! We went through the other door, but then turned around and left! We lost our appetite! Now we are considering if we just want to drive to West DM location from Ames or cancel our membership altogether. read more

While in the process of leaving, with receipts in hand, we handed our receipts to the checker at the door. A bald man named Charlie was on a power trip and held us in the building for well over 20 minutes, not allowing us to leave. Despite verifying one of our two carts and checking off everything from the receipt, and telling us that cart was good to go, he then told us to bring the already verified cart back or else we couldn't leave. All of these items were purchased in front of his supervisor and fully paid for and verified. This man was sitting there yelling at me about the situation while we had already paid. This was insanely unprofessional, and even after the manager came over and fixed the situation, he reverified everything and still tried to hold us there to lecture us on his rules for the door and leaving. This was the most unprofessional, judgmental, and biased experience I've ever dealt with. However the manager samer was amazingly helpful! read more

This is a newer Costco in Ankeny iowa. It needs an additional listing for Costco gas. I have used Costco gas in many places across the country in this particular place it was clean and well attended with staff available to help you no matter what type of situation you may need from forgetting your card to trouble at the pump. Costco has lots of things for the consumer to feel good about 1st of all the quality of their gas is excellent especially for the price point and I really need premium and it's anywhere from 10 to 20 cents a gallon less than is in the general market. It's a great value. The quality of their goods are also excellent in the store. Including lots of organic food in the crazy value of their $5 roasted chicken just like a miniature turkey. But most important they pay a livable wage for their average employees including health care and benefits and I always want to support a large port a large retail Box store that does this type of thing. I had called ahead to order a pizza at 6:00pm and they told me it would be about 25 minutes so I show up at 6:30 and she says that they are behind and it will be a little bit of a wait so I say no problem that's fine I get it. I go look around for a bit and come back up at 6:45 the pizza is still not done. I waited a total of an hour for a pizza that I called ahead for and they gave me a time to get it, that's ridiculous when you have family waiting. read more
