For this who know what Aldi offers, this location is great. It's newer, clean, and usually always pretty well stocked. The produce is the primary reason we visit here. It seems to last longer than that of other grocers in the area. Chicken prices are the cheapest in town, and the dairy is pretty well priced too. If you aren't familiar with what Aldi offers, don't go in there thinking you can get everything you get at HyVee or Fareway. This is a no frills grocery store with basic items. You still have to deposit a quarter for the use of a cart, which you will get back, and you have to pay for bags to put your groceries in, but it's all good. If you know what Aldi has, then you know. If you don't know, that's fine. But don't complain about that they do/don't have. They have what they have a good prices. If it's not for you, go somewhere else. read more

Aldi has just about everything I need and for a good price. That translates into excellent value. Keep up the good work Aldi.

Pros: * Produce quality & prices are the best I've seen in the area. I've not had good luck with Hy-Vee or Fareway in either respect, so am happy I tried Aldi for the 1st time today. * Being a sort-of vegetarian, produce costs are significantly lower than other markets, which makes a huge difference... Aldi bananas $34-cents/lb, 60-cents for organic, as opposed to 69-79-cents+ for non-organic. Romaine lettuce is 1/2 price & better quality. Baskets of varying berries are 25-66% lower & all good quality! Large selection of choices, as well as all good quality is what I find lacking every single time I've shopped in other markets in my 4-mos in IA. * I don't eat processed foods, but walked around checking all the store offers... sandwich meat & cheese & packaged bread are all much lower priced. Today, bread was a bit stale, but if you toast it or use it for stuffing, it's fine. * Conveniently located on Hickman, lots of parking, wide spaces. Cons: * Nothing really. * You may not find everything you need here, but I don't find everything I need in any market... I always have to shop multiple stores to fulfill my shopping list. Still, now that I've found Aldi (I've never shopping in an Aldi before), I'll begin here first, since I build my meals around what produce I find. Good to know: * Chicken prices were the same as other stores, but the quality is great. Pork & beef were a bit cheaper, not too many selections, but good quality. * If you're a newbie like me, you have to deposit a quarter into the lock to take a basket outside the door, then get it back once finished. Hand baskets wer inside the door on my 1st visit, none on the 2nd. * The notes above say masks are required... they no longer are, there's no sign on the door saying they're appreciated or required, most of the employees don't wear them (just the stockers, who were all older, I noticed... the cashier wasn't wearing one) & I didn't see any hand sanitizers inside the door. Not bad, just a note. Few but some shoppers were wearing masks. * You need to supply your own bags. Today there were some free, smaller boxes you could help yourself to, if needed & they have bags at the register to purchase... I believe it was $1 for a reusable, cloth-ish bag with handles (a bit flimsy, but not unlike others in all the other markets), 9-cents for a paper bag & less than $1-2 for their larger "freezer" bags that snap closed & keep your foods cold/frozen in your trunk. I've used similar bags & they are good & worth the cost if you buy a lot of meats... every car should have 1 in the trunk. 4.5* out of 5. They do have a lot of choices, quality is good, like every other market, they don't carry everything, but what they do carry is better than Hy-Vee & Fareway, in my experience. I love how clean this store is. They have a really nice selection of produce and the selection of cheeses and dips takes my breath away. You wouldn't think a discount store would carry the more exotic/unusual items. I love the location because I can visit Aldi and HyVee in the same trip to fill my fridge, freezer, and pantry. I've had mixed encounters with the cashiers, but never rudeness. read more

This is the brand new Aldi that just opened up in Waukee, IA off of Hickman Road across the street from the Hy-Vee. My fiancé and I absolutely love this Hy-Vee. We have gone at least a dozen times since they opened. They are always well-stocked, organized, have an abundance of fresh produce for cheap, and have tons of gluten free foods! I am gluten free, and it can be difficult to find gluten free foods and normally they are expensive. But at this Aldi, there are an abundance of gluten free options at reasonable prices! This week we stocked up on fresh produce, plant based meat alternatives, and gluten free foods. Some of the things they tend to have gluten free are: breads, crackers, cookies, baking mixes, chips, queso dip, pizza, plant based "meats", oats, and granola. I'm surprised at how clean it stays, especially with the light colored floors and foot traffic. The cashiers and stickers are friendly every time we go. Parking is abundant in a private parking lot. You have to insert a quarter to get a cart, but often folks will pass one along to you. This is a must-try, especially if you like fresh produce and/or are gluten free! read more

I checked out, the cashier (who was also the manager) rang me up, I paid, grabbed the cart that he loaded my items into and started to move my cart and the manager yanked my cart back and said "I need this!" As he then proceeded to load the same cart with the guy items that were behind me! The man even told him that those were not my items but they were his and the manager responded "I know!" And continued to put his items in MY cart! He made me grab my items right there and load my items into my bag! I am absolutely shocked how rude and inconsiderate he is!
