Fruit and veggies are plentiful and priced better than my Giant Eagle(although no fuel perks here).

Virginia when the winter gets colder to maintain their stock and tomatoes are brought in from Georgia and Florida. I am a firm believer that good food is all about good ingredients and I am constantly underwhelmed by the selection and quality of the produce at my nearby Giant Eagle on whittier street and trendy Kroger's in the Brewery District. This week at Evelyns I got some of the biggest and hardy sweet potatoes for just .79 a pound and equally delicious tomatoes for 1.99 a pound. I also had my eye on the abundant and fresh supply of sweet onions, zuchinni, cabbage, and squash. Again the quality is superior to local grocers and prices are competitive. If you are not familiar with this part of town it can be tricky to find, south on parsons avenue just beyond the old schottensteins. The address is Marion rd but it is not marked, You will see E. Barthman on the west side, and Evelyn's is on the opposite side. Hours are Mon-Saturday 9:00-5:30 from Dec-March and 9:00-5:30 Mon-Sun April-November. I often call ahead to see what they have each week. I am never disappointed!

Most of their produce is signficantly cheaper than what you could get at Kroger or Giant Eagle, and more inpressive in quality. The staff is very nice and eager to help you. I would highly recommend this place to anyone in the area looking for fresh produce. I live a good ten miles away and I still drive over to Evelyn's regularly. Its worth it!

Driving from Columbus, it took about 30 minutes to get there. After passing a whole lot of nothing, we finally saw the Charlie's Apples sign to the left. We pulled in, first to see a nice, fairly large country house. There was a hand-painted sign instructing us to drive to the right, where we saw another hand-painted sign instructing us to get a bag, drive to orchard, pay when done. Simple enough. Of the three bag options: 5, 10 or 20 pounds. Because I only visit an apple orchard one time a year, I opted for the huge, 20 pounder, priced at $14. Off to pickin'. There was just one group out there, two parents and about 6 young children. It's good there weren't many more people because it was a little small, smaller than other orchards I've visited. They had one variety available to pick: Gold Rush, yellow, light green similar to a Golden Delicious, with a crisp, sweet/tart flavor. The skin was a little tough, but perfect for storage. They can be stored for months! When the pickin' commenced, I found myself with approximately 60 apples. Not bad for $14. We drove around to pay. I was confused for a second or two before noticing that we were to pay on the honor system. There was a little metal box with a bunch of money in it. You wrote your name on a piece of paper, along with what was purchased, and the final price (Pricing: Apples $8/10 lbs., Apples $14/20 lbs., Hard cider $5/750 ml). Open daily from 9a to dark, and staffed on the weekends. Closed March-August for regular business. Available for cider purchases by appointment only.

This orchard is 30+ mins from my place but my parents were in town so I decided it was a good excuse to show them a bit of Ohio on the way. The place looks tiny from the parking lot but it goes back for acres. The lady in the small produce market was very friendly and gave us directions to the apples that were ready to be picked, handed us a few bags, and we were on our way. I wish i knew that we could had driven back there since all we heard was 'it's a lovely walk.' It was a LONG but very nice walk. We passed a pear orchard, a nice small lake and a couple orchards before walking up a large hill to the far orchard where the corn and apples were waiting to be picked. Each bag she gave us was half a bushel and each (filled) is $10. If you dont fill a bag then it goes per pound. We got 2 bags of gala and cortland, and some pumpkin butter, and jams, and etc. This place has lots of stuff, not so cheap but worth it kind of stuff. $5.25 for a jar of blueberry jellies. We'll be back here for the many other fruits they have 'pick your own' for. The corn is also pick your own. They make their own products in the store too. I did not, however, see any cider. I have may been too early for that this year. I went very early in Sept. I have told friends about this place and all have loved it. It has the real family owned orchard feel and not the large scale agra buis feel which is what we were looking for. I'll be back for sure.

This store was nearly spotless.... Like out of a 10 scale its a 9.5. It has more selections of things than the Hampsted one. The aisles are free of abandoned cardboard. The workers move out of your way and when a restock cart gets full of empty cardboard board they take it into the back like they should. The shelves are stocked and fronted. They dont just place stock boxes full of cans on the shelf and leave it like a whole sale place. There isnt run over piled on the aisle, it stays in the back til needed. The sales people were helpful when I couldnt find what I needed. Self self checkout was a breeze. Whoever the manager here is needs to train the manager at Hampsted/New Albany. They could learn a lot. Thank you Stone Ridge Kroger/Gahanna for restoring my faith in Kroger.

To further that problem there was barely anything in the grab and go section. I then cannot find some of the items for the deals that were listed in the weekly ad in the Kroger app and no staff to even ask. I finish my shopping. There were two live cashiers. One was closed to go on their break. There was ONE open. This was at about 7:00 pm on a Friday night. I take my full grocery cart to self checkout. I am scanning my groceries, piling bags around the register and it was 3 teenagers who offered to at least get me a second cart to be helpful. Not the staff member at the self checkout who did come over once to help, only because the light was going off. Otherwise he was too busy talking to his buddies rather than paying attention to the customers. The customer service has not been stellar at this store ever. This was the worst ever. I will not be shopping at this store ever again. What's worse was the responses I got from the supposed customer service department that I emailed. The responses were vague at best and were obvious that my email was not read.
