Sweetie found this as an alternative to Lynd's (we like them, but they are expensive.) I think she saw it on the news. Way out from Columbus, but a pleasant enough drive. Pulled up to see the leavings from cider they'd just pressed. Outside there were a bunch of pumpkins, and some stuff for the kids to play on (this weekend they're having a festival.) Inside the store, tons of apples, candy, jam, cheese, etc. Super friendly owners. We got a couple of things, and bags so we could pick apples. If I remember correctly prices are about half of the ones at Lynd's, so, yay. The orchards are big, and well-organized. We picked a variety, some to eat, some for applesauce. Everybody had a good time, we didn't spend a ton of money, and we have lots of good apples. We'll be back.

What a great experience apple picking today! We found Legend Hills from a Facebook suggestion. It was worth the 30 min drive. The prices were much better than our closer orchards, the staff were very friendly and we loved being able to pick any variety of apple that was still available. We didn't have time to spend in the market but will check it out next time. We will be back!

We love Legend Hills! Great selection of apples and very reasonably priced for u-pick! They also have a cute little market with lots of snacks and goodies.

Best place for some apple picking! So many varieties and it's a largeee area so you can spend 1-2 hours there choosing what you like. Every time I go apple picking I make sure I get there somewhat early before the fried pie is sold out- we were told they are made fresh so only have limited supply. They absolutely taste fresh so I give their fried pies two thumbs up!!

Always a nice orchard to visit. Not a tourist attraction, not overly crowded. They have the best cider in the state!

Virginia when the winter gets colder to maintain their stock and tomatoes are brought in from Georgia and Florida. I am a firm believer that good food is all about good ingredients and I am constantly underwhelmed by the selection and quality of the produce at my nearby Giant Eagle on whittier street and trendy Kroger's in the Brewery District. This week at Evelyns I got some of the biggest and hardy sweet potatoes for just .79 a pound and equally delicious tomatoes for 1.99 a pound. I also had my eye on the abundant and fresh supply of sweet onions, zuchinni, cabbage, and squash. Again the quality is superior to local grocers and prices are competitive. If you are not familiar with this part of town it can be tricky to find, south on parsons avenue just beyond the old schottensteins. The address is Marion rd but it is not marked, You will see E. Barthman on the west side, and Evelyn's is on the opposite side. Hours are Mon-Saturday 9:00-5:30 from Dec-March and 9:00-5:30 Mon-Sun April-November. I often call ahead to see what they have each week. I am never disappointed!

Most of their produce is signficantly cheaper than what you could get at Kroger or Giant Eagle, and more inpressive in quality. The staff is very nice and eager to help you. Driving from Columbus, it took about 30 minutes to get there. After passing a whole lot of nothing, we finally saw the Charlie's Apples sign to the left. We pulled in, first to see a nice, fairly large country house. There was a hand-painted sign instructing us to drive to the right, where we saw another hand-painted sign instructing us to get a bag, drive to orchard, pay when done. Simple enough. Of the three bag options: 5, 10 or 20 pounds. Because I only visit an apple orchard one time a year, I opted for the huge, 20 pounder, priced at $14. Off to pickin'. There was just one group out there, two parents and about 6 young children. It's good there weren't many more people because it was a little small, smaller than other orchards I've visited. They had one variety available to pick: Gold Rush, yellow, light green similar to a Golden Delicious, with a crisp, sweet/tart flavor. The skin was a little tough, but perfect for storage. They can be stored for months! When the pickin' commenced, I found myself with approximately 60 apples. Not bad for $14. We drove around to pay. I was confused for a second or two before noticing that we were to pay on the honor system. There was a little metal box with a bunch of money in it. You wrote your name on a piece of paper, along with what was purchased, and the final price (Pricing: Apples $8/10 lbs., Apples $14/20 lbs., Hard cider $5/750 ml). Open daily from 9a to dark, and staffed on the weekends. Closed March-August for regular business. Available for cider purchases by appointment only.
