We moved to the East coast (North Carolina) about two years ago and had only ever heard of Aldi's when we visited my mom in south central PA. We checked it out several years ago when visiting and were not impressed at the time. Since relocating we've noticed there are several in the Triad and multiple people have recommended we check out Aldi's. They told us they are happy with the selection and prices so we decided to stop in. Aldi's feels to have a robust store brand program. They have a lot of their own products which are usually less expensive than nationally branded products. They also have some national branded products but the offerings appear to be limited. Our first trip was a couple of weeks ago, we first looked through the produce offerings and were really impressed with the quality, selection and low prices. My wife found various berries, fruits and veggies. We made our way up and down the aisles and were equally impressed with the bread, chips/snacks, lunch meats, and frozen steam able veggies. The closest location to us is the Clemmons store and it appears to be clean and well organized. The checkout line moves fairly quick and we were in and out. There are a few catches. You need to bring your own bags. At the register, you put your items on the belt, they ring it up and put your items back into a cart. Then you have to bag them at the counter across from the registers. You can only get a cart if you put a quarter into the lock on the cart. When you return your cart and lock it, you can retrieve your quarter. They don't have cart runners collecting carts in the parking lot. We came back this weekend and again purchased several produce items, chips, snack bags, frozen veggies and this time we bought some steak. An example of the prices are as follows: Package of 8 tortillas: $1.99 9.5 oz bag of barbecue chips: $2.19 Steam able veggie bags: $.96 to $1.09 12 count of crescent rolls: $1.95 6 count of everything bagels: $1.95 Small package of blackberries: $1.95 Medium package of strawberries: $1.89 Meat lovers deli pizza: $7.19 We've really begun to like Aldi's and will continue to stop in when purchasing groceries for the week. Excited to try other locations in our travels as well.

They have a great selection of baked goods, and a frozen foods section where you can find a wide variety of items to make your meal prep easier. We stopped in recently and I was amazed at all of the locally sourced bakery items, cakes and pies of all kinds and a really nice assortment of canned and jarred items from jellies and jams to pickled veggies of all kinds. There is a large selection of seasonal goods as well, spring, summer, fall and winter. The inventory is always changing with the seasons. A cool little country store and well worth a visit. The owners are friendly and kind, the staff were all helpful. 3.5 Stars rounded up for all of the fresh baked goods 01074

In addition to items such as hand painted gourds, jams, jellies, home and garden décor, Christmas ornaments, etc., etc. they also have food items brought in by local farmers, bakers and growers. Just some of the options include Moravian Chicken Pies & Quiche, Lasagna and Pot Roast Pies, Local Sausage and Country Ham, Desserts, and Local Honey. We spoke to the owner and he said they have owned it for 23 years. It has a very cozy, down home feel and I can imagine that over the course of the year the offerings change depending on the time of year. We will absolutely be back.

The flowers are beautiful, like most farmer's market they are the wild flowers. Unfortunately, wild flowers don't really hold up super well once you get home. I did think it was neat this year that they did the $20 challenge where Nikki Miller-Ka cooks a meal for four, for $20 with all ingredients that were purchased at the Farmer's Market. I do really like Grace Meadow Farm, that is usually at this market that sells chorizo and ground beef. It is some good stuff! The butter at Mill River Farm is also awesome. The parking lot is pretty tight and can be a bit of a pain getting in and finding a spot on Saturday morning.

Well, I think the farmers deserve to raise their prices because they're ridiculously low as it is. I've only been in Winston Salem for a year, but this Farmer's Market can even beat Costco on price and quality. Come early for the best selection of everything from green onions to heirloom tomatoes, to organic peppers. Bring flowers home to your wife/girlfriend, and buy a rug from the nice veteran on the eastern wall. There are salsa (the food, not the dance) competitions, local honey farmers, and a good amount of (free) parking. The best part about this place is how kind the farmers are. They'll always give you more than you pay for, and are generous on their samples.

I prefer the white pumpkins. What about you?  The apples are DELICIOUS! We like the Magnum Bonum. The owners say it's great for baking. We like the taste. The Honey Crisp apples are huge!  They have pumpkin butter, candy, and peanuts.  FOOD TRUCKS: They have food trucks on the property which makes for a great day trip to Winston-Salem!   Here are two that we recommend:    Papa Bears Coffee-n-Donuts, the owner makes his own pumpkin icing to go over his donuts! They are on Facebook.  Graffiti Grub had her grand opening today at Hawks! She has iced hot chocolate! Coffee and treats. She will be selling candied apples and the apples come from Hawks. She doesn't have social media yet, but I hope you will stop by and support local.   I saw an Ice Cream truck setting up but didn't get the name.  Other unique features: Grab a red wagon and fill it up with pumpkins and apples, or take your kids for a ride around the patch.   Lots of photo props and opportunities, but if you're a professional photographer please check in with the owners.  Fun for the whole family!!
