Abbott's Frozen Custard is pure happiness in a cup (or waffle cone)! Their custard is unbelievably creamy, rich, and perfectly smooth--truly a step above regular ice cream. Every flavor tastes fresh and indulgent, from the classic chocolate and vanilla to their fun seasonal specials that keep you coming back to see what's new. When it is this hot, ice cream always sounds good, and even more so just after a spicy Indian meal. I ordered a small cup of chocolate custard, and as I was about to leave I saw them making fresh waffle cones. I paid the difference (about 80 cents), got my cone and was off . This is good stuff here, I will be back. read more

Moonbeam was cotton candy base with chocolate chips and Oreo pieces. Not sure whose idea it was - but it's pure brilliance. Love me some custard. About $25 for ice cream and tip here for 3. I always check for the flavor of the day. Must live custard. If you don't know what custard is you must try custard. Custard is the best. Yum yum yum custard. Big fan here... of custard. read more

If it tells you anything, I was too excited to dig in before taking a photo. I'd never been here before and the menu was daunting! So many good choices and they also had a case of baked goods in addition to the frozen menu. I asked the workers at the counter for help and they were more than happy to offer suggestions. My order was prepared LIGHTNING fast. Like, seriously. I had only just walked to the pickup counter when she whirled around and had it ready. I got the cookie dough cake batter flurrie. Topped with whipped cream of course, it was so delicious! I couldn't finish it all and had the rest later in the evening and to my surprise, all the cookie dough chunks were at the bottom! I had forgotten it was cookie dough so that was great. Highly recommend when you have a sweet tooth! read more

Abbotts is one of my favorite ice cream shops in Clemmons and it's a perfect place to get a summer treat. I love that they offer seasonal flavors. First impressions: nice open space with seating inside and out. Bright, welcoming lighting and friendly staff! When I looked at the menu, I needed to step back and take a few minutes to figure out what I wanted. They had a ton of different flavor options and different ways you could order them. I eventually decided there was no way I could decide and had to ask for a recommendation, which the girls at the counter were happy to give. I got the peanut butter sundae and I was very happy with this choice. The price for it was reasonable and the serving size was more than enough. Definitely recommend you try this place out, as it's not just your ice cream shop. read more

Had a BOGO coupon for Abbott's and decided to give it a try - I'm glad I did! We were greeted by two very friendly workers who answered all the questions we had. I tried the flavor of the day, which was cosmic brownie, and it was creamy and delicious. I believe the flavor of the days are just base flavors (like chocolate or vanilla) with mix-ins, but it was yummy nonetheless. They have plenty of mix-in options for everyone. The servings are very generous for the price! Indoor and outdoor seating offered. read more

A great place to go for a sweet and cold treat to beat the summer heat. We stopped in after a visit to Cugino Forno next door to round out the evening. The staff was friendly and quick and the frozen custard was excellent, I decided rather than eat I wanted mine as a milkshake and for $5.99 it was a great treat. I recommend it if you are here like me to get pizza or just want something sweet and delicious. read more

The custard here is absolutely delicious. So much so that I won't penalize them for employing this horrible new trend in seating, which is metal chairs with strange backs that are not meant for any human being to enjoy. Nothing says "eat your ice cream and get out" like a metal chair. Avoiding a rant here, indeed, the frozen custard made here is decisively tasty. There are several varieties that are available pretty much all the time, and then a special menu that rotates based on the whim of their employees. They also have custard cakes, pies, and other goodies to go, as well as pints and quarts of their own flavors packaged and ready. I went with the chocolate cookie dough custard, and this was definitely not a bad decision at all. The custard was creamy, had a deep chocolate flavor, and then those chunks of doughy goodness sprinkled liberally throughout to provide a texture change and flavor pop. I was glad I got the larger size, as I scraping the cup at the end trying to get every last tasty bit. You have a lot of choices for good dessert in Clemmons, but this is one of the best you can make. Head to Abbott's, especially after you have some pizza next door! read more

Wife had a disastrous manicure/pedicure appointment. So made it up with a little frozen custard. Hats off to the two young people working there. Very friendly and took the time to explain everything to us. Very clean and organized. I had a vanilla milkshake with Carmel, just the test I do at each new ice cream place. Wife had a hot Carmel Sunday. Yes we will be back. Thank you Abbotts for helping reverse the bad afternoon. read more

We were looking for ice cream and stumbled here instead, which did not disappoint! Really enjoyed the seasonal flavors of pumpkin roll and apple betty and they gave a really reasonable amount for a small (two flavors possible). Three people in our party ordered the Oreo wheels (ice cream cookie) and enjoyed them for the most part. One felt like the Oreo over powered their pumpkin flavor of the filling and one felt like they would have rather had a chocolate chip cookie for their outside. Staff seemed helpful and it was pretty busy, which is always a good sign. Would recommend and go back! read more

I'm a native of Rochester, New York, but I have in-laws in the Carolinas. I had heard they have an Abbott's in the region, but I never knew exactly where. Now I do, and I am glad I looked it up. It is in every way an Abbott's like you find in New York. It brought back fond memories. We went twice while we were in the area. Excellent service. Excellent custard. They even have white hots in the freezer! Still the best "ice cream" you can get, and I live near Graeter's Ice Cream. IFKYK. I was in the area for a sad/depressing reason. Having some Abbott's made it better. Thanks, and thanks for making my childhood great, too. If you have never had frozen custard, drop whatever it is you are doing and get some! Abbott's is truly the best. Even my in-laws agreed with that. read more

I'm not a huge ice cream fan, but frozen custard is another story. There's just something about the rich creamy texture that draws me in every time. Clemmons is soon becoming a dessert destination. With Ketchie Creek, Ava's Cupcakes and Krispy Kreme grabbing the doughnut/pastry and cake lovers crowd Dairy-O and now Abbott's can rest easy wrangling those craving something cold and creamy. I ventured into Abbott's with my son to try them out. The first thing that hit me after walking in what the delicious smell of the fresh waffle cones being made. Is there any better smell than that? Yum! It's awesome to see a place that makes them fresh. A warm greeting by the people behind the counter where they were making the waffle cones welcomed us into the store. Friendly faces all around. The menu had plenty of options to choose from. I opted for the smallest portion because we had just finished dinner at Dairy-O across the parking lot. I always get vanilla to start because it's my go-to flavor for first visits. If they can do vanilla well then I go for a different flavor on another visit. My vanilla was good. Not amazing like I've had at other places, but tasty. I'm not wowed like I'd hoped. However, the service was friendly and quick and there was still those delicious freshly made waffle cones that were calling out to me. My son and I settled into a seat at the bar in front of the waffle cone area. My son ordered coffee flavor. He loved his and said it was the most concentrated coffee flavor he'd ever tasted. He would definitely order that flavor again. As we sat at the counter, I casually asked the gentleman making the waffle cones how he managed not to eat every fresh one that came out. He promptly handed me a hot from the iron waffle cone! Oh this made my day!! I of course shared it with my son, but it was the best cone I'd ever had. Soft and warm, and a slightly crispy crust. As it cooled, of course it got more firm but it was SO good! As for value, I did feel it was a little overpriced for what you get. I know quality ingredients aren't cheap and neither is the time it takes to turn those ingredients into a quality product, but my son would have liked a bit of a larger portion since he ordered a larger size than I did. I can't speak for any of the other specialty items since I didn't order any. Abbott's is a solid 4 stars in my book for the custard. The service and waffle cones bumped it up to 5 for me though. I'm glad to have a frozen custard place within an easy drive from Winston. read more

I really wanted an ice cream cake for my birthday. I wanted something fresh and not from the grocery store. I was impressed with my experience. The woman I spoke with was really nice and explained all the options. They also let us sample some of the custard. They make pies that looked amazing. I went with a more traditional cake which is vanilla, chocolate, and cookie crunch. They were sweet and wrote on it for me. My son and I loved the custard cake. read more

Me, my teenage son, and his friend visited last week and we are all quite disappointed. I had the banana split which was the saddest little banana split that I have ever seen. It basically 2 tiny scoops of ice cream and a banana. It reminded me of a treat that would come with a child's meal. Very small portion. Taste was average but lacked toppings and was quite dull. My son ordered an Oreo shake. He said the taste was fine but the cup was only about 1/2 full. My son's friend has a Sunday which was the best of the three. I think it was an average sunday that one could get at any other fast food spot. Overall, it's not that the food was bad but the portions were very small, there was nothing notable about the food, and the prices were at a super premium compared to the fast food quality that was served. read more

Love the custard here and the variety of flavors available each day. Had the American Dream tonight (vanilla custard, fudge, caramel and chocolate covered cone pieces). It was good but felt like it was a little too heavy on the fudge for my liking. They have resumed doing samples which I didn't know until someone else had come in and asked for one. We were the only ones in there until the other couple came in so am unable to say how social distancing is enforced. read more

Abbott's Custard is the best ever! It all started in Rochester NY where it originated. I was raised on this Custard! As a child, we'd go to Abbott's Custard near the Rochester airport and watch the planes take off and land and eat the delicious Custard! I don't claim to be an aficionado of frozen custard. I admit, I had to look up the difference between ice cream and frozen custard. But I do know tasty when I'm having it, and you can't go wrong at Abbott's. Sweet, rich, and creamy with plenty of flavors and toppings to choose from, as well as floats and shakes involving said flavors. They also have a case of random confectionery delights as well. Missed opportunity, I probably should've gotten a chocolate cookie or perhaps a coated pretzel to dip into my cake batter cookie dough shake, but alas, life's greatest lessons are learned via failure. In any case, I'll take the excuse to return for another round of chilly deliciousness to prove my theory correct! The store itself is very clean looking with friendly, patient staff, and tables both inside and outside on the patio to stay a while and enjoy. Spoiler alert: they make their waffle cones fresh in house, and you will be greeted by the alluring scent of the waffle batter being cooked in the iron! read more

I am so thrilled that an Abbott's has opened in our Community. Abbott's is a huge name in Custard in Upstate New York. I can attest that this Clemmons location is serving the same high quality custard plus an innovative soda fountain. I am a bit lost for words to describe how awesome this frozen treat is. The chocolate custard is complimented perfectly with a generous amount of roasted almonds. Their Butterfinger Crunch is comprised of the creamiest vanilla custard loaded with a significant amount of the candy bar. This place is a must stop on the way past Clemmons on US Highway 40. Lastly, the owner of this custard shop has a vision of pairing custard favorites with in-store created soda fountain drinks: Root Beer floats, Cherry soda, orange creamsicle soda, and nearly fifty other soda fountain / float options. Go way out of your way to visit this location! read more

I had never tried custard before and really wasn't a fan of ice cream. But OMG!!! I'm a fan of ABBOTT's!! My husband and I are there weekly for the 3 pint special!!! You have to try it! It is a MUST! I'd heard great things about this place and during an outing to the area we stopped in to grab some custard. The comments about this place were spot on. We are accustomed to Andy's custard and how rich and creamy it is, Abbott's is way better. The custard is firm, creamy and rich, and very flavorful. The flavor choices and toppings were plentiful with something for the entire family. Our crew ordered an assortment of their offerings. The cookie treats, milkshake, and assorted sundaes were selected and did not disappoint. Service was great and the shop itself was clean and well organized. The treats were so good we ordered 3 pints to go for later. I'd encourage everyone to try this spot. We will definitely be making trips over in the future for our custard fix. read more

Before I launch into my review of my fourth frozen custard joint, I want to invite you once again to read my review of Andy's Frozen Custard for a brief history of the rise and fall of frozen yogurt and exactly what frozen custard is as it makes it's rise through the ranks of frozen treats. As far as Abbott's is concerned, the bottom line is this: they make a positively superior product in every way. The texture, consistency, and flavor of Abbott's Frozen Custard is second to none. I have ordered vanilla at all of the frozen custard places I have visited, but I have also sampled the chocolate, and Abbott's chocolate is the best of all of them. That is the case for me because I don't like an overwhelming amount of chocolate flavor, for it sometimes seems artificially overdone. I found Abbott's to be perfect. The vanilla was excellent as well. In addition, Abbott's makes a homemade waffle cone, which really makes a difference--fresh, crispy, malty--and it tips the scales in Abbott's favor as far as the best frozen custard I have run across so far. Also sporting more flavors than other places, the Abbott's in Clemmons is in a really nice location and has some outdoor seating in a new shopping center. read more

I love the custard and the service here is always great. The workers are very kind and helpful (willing to give you a sample of anything you want to try). I'm thrilled to have Abbott's in the Clemmons area. They do a great job with custard, and from there mainstays to their more rotational/adventurous flavors, they are always a treat. Overall, if you have a permanent sweet tooth or just a momentary craving, Abbott's is a great place for a treat! read more
