I used to really like this location until recently and this is why.A cockroach female employee from the start is still being mean spirited and rude aka the worst customer service i have ever seen at an Aldi's location in my entire life.A cockroach male employee there was sweeping the floor and shook the extremely dust filled broom with all of his might in the air because he thought i was going to walk in that direction to leave the grocery store.Need i say anymore????? read more

I am a bargain hunter from childhood and this Aldi does the trick. really great prices on a decent selection of items, CHECK. good tasting and less expensive food than national brands, CHECK. super clean store and very courteous employees, CHECK. hassle and attitude-free return policy, check. great public transportation to and from, check. good hours of operation, check. will stay in my grocery store rotation, SUPER CHECK. in all honesty, this Aldi is not the only grocery I patronize. but as it's been nearly 20 years since I shopped at only one store for anything, that in no way diminishes its worth. this is my go-to store for staples: bread, milk, eggs, cheese, cereal, sandwich meat, chopped garlic, broth, spinach/salad greens, mushrooms, grape tomatoes, tuna, chicken, pasta/rice/couscous, the occasional frozen pizza (Home Run Inn!!), toilet paper, Ziploc-type bags. have never found anything there that I would not buy again. even the condiments, pasta sauce and salad dressings are good. :-) I regularly buy so many things here that Jewel has become an "only what's on sale OR something I cannot live without" grocery for me. believe me, you are losing nothing and the savings really add up. VIVA LA ALDI!! read more

Aldi offers affordable food and other home supplies! Whenever I shop here, I always spend about half the amount I do when I would shop at other grocery retailers (such as Jewel Osco). Since Aldi is Germany based, they have a lot of yummy German snacks available to purchase. It's not as big as a typical grocery store, but, that's okay, you still can find anything you need. They occasionally have special seasonal items which are a hit-or-miss, never in between. Last year, I tried a German Apple pie and it was terrible. But, I've tried seasonal chocolate that was good. They also offer free parking in their lot upstairs which is a plus. One thing I don't like about this Aldi location is they don't sell alcohol like other locations do. I asked why and an associate told me it was because the alderman, at the it opened, didn't allow them to sell alcohol. Weird. It's a shame because I heard Aldi brand liquor is great. Too bad us Edgewater residents can't try it (unless we make a longer commute to another further Aldi)... read more

I take it back. I take it all back. My like of this store held for many months. I went to Aldi, I was pretty excited. I could overlook some of the aspects of feeling like I was in a low class store and focus on the low prices ( one dozen eggs for 99 cents, cheap milk 1.50 a gallon, store brand pizza bread that tasted good, was cheap (about 1.79 etc), the cleanliness of the store, and get over it. Not anymore. I went in yesterday. I felt like that by entering the store, I was immediately classified as the type of person who is not to be trusted. Evidence for this is included later in the review. This is not a feeling I am used to having- EVER. And not one that I ever want to have again. They have taken away all of the good; the pricing on the items that I went into the shop for, helpful employees, etc. First of all- You also now have to put a deposit on a cart. What in the name of all that is good is this about? I am not a criminal, and really, seriously? It is a frickin grocery cart. I need it to store the items I plan on purchasing, as I have short T- Rex arms and cannot carry much. Screw you. It is just a quarter, but, come on. REALLY???? The next issue: 1. Eggs. Eggs were 99cents a dozen. They have raised the prices by 1/2 and as of Sunday, when I shopped, they were 1.49. no thanks. I can get that pricing at Dominick's. Target is cheaper too. And guess what? I can get a cup of coffee at both of these places! HA bonus. I do not have to pay for a cart either! 2. Milk has radically increased in pricing also. It was 1.50$ Now, it is at least .25-40 cents more- in six months. Really-- is the economy improving that much? I do not think so! Dominicks is lowering prices. Aldi is raising them! I did not buy any- so I cannot give an exact quote, but good grief, Aldi- get your head out of the dimly lit place it is currently residing. 3. I shopped on Saturday afternoon. They had 3, tres, three cashiers on duty. Yeah. I waited in line for about 25 minutes. What a pain in an uncomfortable place. 4. The produce sucked, bruised, tattered looking peaches for 59 cents each. WHAT a bargain!! Expensive, not worth it. Go to edgewater produce. What a crock of poo. My opinion? Take your new store concept and throw it in the garbage. It is a big fat pile of fail. Once I got home, I tried to call and talk to the manager. No store numbers are published and you cannot get them through directory assistance. I called the headquarters. I spoke with someone. I even spoke with the area manager. Yeah. She informed me that they often have specials when new stores open. She also told me that they had dropped the price of eggs. Oh wow! Glad I did their comparison shopping for them! What a crock! So- I guess the "new store specials" were the milk and eggs. Now it is buyer beware! I was a fan, supporter, and general endorser of this store. Not anymore. (I had decided not to write any bad reviews, but this galled me. I broke that decree. ) read more

This is a great Aldi (or "Aldis" as most native Chicagoans call it). :) The produce is always fresh, with the exception of their avocados which tend to either be rock hard or way too mushy. I also like to stock up on their frozen seafood, namely their shrimp and salmon (way cheaper than buying them fresh) and their Bleu and Gorganzola cheese can't be beat! The downside is there terrible selection of frozen veggies. Well either their selection sucks or I just always come at the wrong time. Glad this store is so close to my house. read more

I was hesitant about going to Aldi but thought I would give it a try. A very clean, well stocked store. The European chocolate is over half what you pay at the other chain stores. Dark chocolate is a weakness. The produce isn't bad but you do have to check as some items are bruised. I would love to see more vegetarian options but for now I will be happy with the cheese selection all for around $2. I can load up for around $30. Plus there is free parking. read more

My only problem with this Aldi is it's always understaffed and the checkout lines get ridiculously long. Otherwise it's well stocked, the staff are helpful, and the prices are reasonable. read more

There is a blonde girl that works there who looks to be in her twenties but every time I go to aldi and she is cashiering, I never have to wait more than five minutes in line no matter how long the lines get. She is efficient, more than that she's fast, but still pays attention and gives you a sincere smile and "how are you" every time. She has got to be a manager or promoted because she is very good at her job. Oh and the store is great too. read more

I love Aldi so much! Quality food at insanely reasonable prices. I'm usually able to leave the store with most of everything that I need in 3/4 shopping bags for about $30! You can't do that anywhere else. They have the right formula - no money spent on fancy aisle decorations etc, the products are all still on their pallet boxes, so they can give you quality (ALL ORGANIC) items at great prices. I've also found that their produce is excellent. My produce usually lasts several weeks as long as I store it correctly. Tip: plan ahead and bring your own bags with you so you don't have to buy some there! Thanks Aldi for saving our planet, caring about our health, and providing quality affordable food to the marketplace! read more

I go here before I go to Whole Foods for my organic foods. It is almost unbelievable how many organic selections they have: coconut oil, seasonings (these are new as of Jan 2016), chopped kale, grass-fed beef, chicken stock. They also have uncured bacon and a line of active foods like multigrain flatbread or turkey sausage. They have pretty much every modern marketing niche (gluten free, organic, world flavor, healthy) effectively served at an unbeatable price. Don't be fooled by the quarter-operated carts, you won't get nickeled and dimed here. read more

Welcome Aldi to your new north Broadway location ! ! I just visited your store tonight for the first time . And although it is smallish it seemed to have a great variety of items and really nice prices too ! i plan to do a lot of shopping there from now on ! read more

I guess coming to Aldi is a big no no to certain people. I really don't mind since they do have a good stock of decent affordable food. The location is always clean and I like their cashiers, who are incredibly fast. I will keep shopping here no matter how much people look down on affordable food. read more

After several weeks of waiting for the crowds to thin and the novelty to wear off somewhat, I decided to check out the new ALDI in Edgewater. My expectations were exceeded by the brightly - lit and - coloured interior. Also, you don't have to go fishing for a quarter to use a shopping cart; a sensor and two security guards insure that the carts stay inside the store. I could not help but laugh at a couple who, obviously , had never shopped at an ALDI before. The pair argued with the cashier over why she would not bag their purchases for them, and then protested when they were charged for a grocery bag. AH! ALDI VIRGINS! The store employees were courteous and I walked out happy about the total on my receipt, which was smaller than at a traditional supermarket. read more

I've been back since they updated everything & it looks great. Hopefully the customer service will be updated too. Good job on making it look way better. read more

I love the Granville Aldi. I have become a total fanatic in this down economy, but am grateful I discovered this place because Jewel is a black pit for money and I feel robbed every time I leave there. Now Aldi is of course the poster place for the low end grocery store, and many aspiring college educated kiddies in the city skip over this gem for that reason. First off you have to know that Aldi's is owned by a different branch of the same family that owns Trader Joe's. Trader Joe's does not disclose who manufactures their preprepared food items- perhaps because the same items are being packaged for Whole Foods, but also I imagine because those same manufacturers want a share of the lower markets too- the Aldi market. Aldi does not put their food out in displays, instead their dumped out in the boxes they came in. They don't have a lot of people working there, and you will always wait in a long line. You will have the mad dash to the counters where you'll bag your own groceries sometimes in the very same boxes that were left out in the store. And perhaps worst of all you'll never know what foods they'll carry on a certain day. Once I couldn't find whole cream there, sometimes certain meats aren't out. However you can stop at Dominicks or Jewel on the way back and pick up the specialty items. I always expect a second stop when i go to Aldi's. But believe me knowing I'm cutting my food costs by a third gives me enormous pleasure. This Granville store is clean and yellow and brightly lit. Be friendly to the cashiers- they stil have to count their change out by hand, and they're rushing everyone through as fast as they can. You'll see all sorts of people there, but shouldn't arouse your latent classism too strongly. Identify what are staples on your grocery list, recognize that brands have infiltrated the entire way you view food, and buy those items at Aldi's. It's a game to see how far you can shop there. The Coconut popsicles are excellent, the ground turkey a total steal for chili recipes. And I've had my limits-no deal on the spaghetti sauce guys! But believe me the deal they have on colored peppers always snags my eye. Rice krispies taste the same in any box they come in, and you can drink your gallon of milk in one setting when you know it didn't cost $3.50. Breads, nice cuts of meat, esoteric spices- you'll have to hit the big stores for those. But the bulk of your items for a DIY cook can be bought here. I make a game out of how much I saved, adding up the tacked-on dollar here and there that you'll find when you're at Jewel. And best of all you'll really start feeling like an urbanite who doesn't let the money vacuum of the dictate what you do! read more

Not the worst aldi I've visited, but not the best. I typically end up there when its crowded and wait 15 min in line. I don't pay the quarter for a cart, just grab a basket and build muscle! read more

I have been going to this Aldi for the last 6 years and loved it. Their produce was good compared to the price and would last at least 4-5 days. Every since they have remodeled, their fruits and veggies have mold with increased prices. Although the place looks modern, their quality has decreased making me shop at other competitors. read more

This Aldi location has always been convenient since I moved into the building in 2013. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The recent remodeling makes the store look fresh and new, however, they made some merchandising changes that are not so helpful. They no longer have the non-food special buys. Additionally, it appears they also no longer have most of the food special buys. Now I have to go to another Aldi locations for all of the special buys which negates the convenience of the store in my building. read more

I absolutely LOVE this ALDI. I have been a regular customer here for 2 years now and I can say this place is amazing. 1. ***PRICING*** The prices are ALWAYS awesome. Many things, esp fruits you will find half the price at regular markets. ALDI has a range of ORGANIC products under 'Simply Nature' brand as well and a small selection of organic fruits/veggies too. These organic products here are way cheaper than at Mariano's or WholeFoods. 2. ***PRODUCTS*** The store has a variety of products to meet you all your regular grocery needs - fruits/veggies,rice,macaroni,sugar,tea,honey,oil,cookies,cereals,chips,juice etc. It also has a small section of toys (at excellent prices) and sometimes branded comforters, clothes , seasonal items like flowers, plants etc which are select buys. There are always some products that need to be off the shelves to make room and those have extra discounts :). 3. ***STAFF*** Everyone at this ALDI has been very friendly and professional. The cashiers are superbusy but they always greet the customers and are polite. I have visited this place so many many times and didn't have a bad experience yet. Kudos and thanks to the WONDERFUL STAFF at this ALDI. 4. ***CLEANLINESS and SPACING*** It is well maintained and clean. Also, there are extra spacing and a bench too, inside the store, if you want to sit and pack your items, wait for someone etc. 5. ***Accessibility and AREA SAFETY*** Store is very close to Granville Red line and also by bus #36 to Devon. The area is well lit and I found it very safe. read more

I am often surprised that I am in a place where I can give Aldi a four star rating. It took me a while for me to get comfortable with what I was purchasing there and what I would get from the store. However I have to say a few things about their products. They are superior to those of Jewel and Marianos. My produce from the store last an additional week if not longer than the traditional grocery stores. I am also noticing that they are carrying staples that I used to get only at Jewel or Mariano. So it's amazing to me how they are adapting and making my grocery bill at their location go higher and higher each week. For example they recently started carrying riced Cauliflower! This used to be something that you could only get it at a specialty place or maybe at Marianos if the store was decent. So if you haven't been to Aldi check it out. And give it several weeks because you will be surprise that you will soon be there buying grocery after grocery and saving tons of cash. read more

Ok you don't go to Aldi expecting the quality to be fantastic but this Aldi is dirty! I cannot bring myself to buy any produce there (and I have bought produce at other Aldi's) because I have seen flies circling the onions. The selection seems smaller than other stores and this place is always packed and there is always a long wait. I was excited when this place came to the neighborhood but I'll make the trek over to California for the clean Aldi. read more

Cycled over to be surprised by "Closed for Remodeling" sign. Google showed them as open today. Went further down to Wilson and found loads of price increases from 15% (tomato paste $.39 to $.46; frozen sausage from no more than $1.99 to $2.39) to 50% (sour cream from $.99 to $1.59). I've found better prices during good sales elsewhere. read more

I hate grocery shopping but love this store! Easy to find what you need with low prices. The no frills is what I love. Staff is busy and don't have time to help you track down what you're looking for; it's a small store so just look around. If you want someone to dote attention on you go elsewhere and don't crowd the aisles with your Entitled suburban energy. read more

This Aldi is very small and have limited options available. The aisle's are extremely narrow and can only fit one cart at a time. If you have ever been to any other Aldi's prepare to be disappointed. Those who have never been to a decent Aldi's before will think this super small store is heaven sent. I went here to buy ingredients to prepare Taco's for the night and they didn't even have everything to make a simple taco. The Aldi's by my old home was very large and with a huge selection so this Aldi's just won't do it for me, I'm sorry. However the staff are friendly and the setup is very neat. read more

as a past marketer working with manufacturers - i discovered the generic brands are often manufactured by the branded manufacturers. It is a sideline to their branded business. There often is not a difference between branded and private label. read more

This is a good place to do some cheap shopping. The quality of most of the stuff they sell is pretty good. However they do not sell fancy stuff like whole foods or trader joe's. They do have some good fruit and meat. A bit of everything. I like this place very much. Lines are long sometimes so thats a bummer. You have to either bring your own bags or you can buy bags there for like cents. Cereals, cookies, milk, cheese, they got everything. Give it a try if you can but do not expect this brand names that you are used to. read more

This is the nicest and biggest Aldi ever. I cannot believe it when I first visited here. It was huge and clean with better selection than most. read more

I don't understand the love for this store. I felt like I needed a shower after I left. Stockers had every other aisle blocked; the price/description signs were difficult to read for anyone under 6' tall. The two stars are for the beautiful and reasonably priced produce. read more

This Aldi is like that feeling you get when you find five dollars in the pocket of a pair of pants you haven't worn in awhile. The most important thing you need to know about this Aldi is that they sell Cheese Club Shells with Cheese, and you should absolutely buy some. This is the best boxed mac 'n' cheese I have EVER eaten. It's actually better than some of the homemade mac 'n' cheeses I've had too .At first taste I became a lifetime member of the cheese club. It is under $2 a box, and I assure you it is worth both your time and your money. I cannot stress enough how important this is. Now, back to the Aldi in general. It has a lot of great stuff. There are some name brand things like Coke, Naked Juice, and mini Babybel cheeses, as well as tons of quality generics. Some of the selection is consistent, and other things come and go. If you have a specific recipe in mind, it's possible you won't find everything you need. If you are looking for inspiration though, you will definitely find it. Even if you have to stop at a second store afterwards, an Aldi trip is worth it for the savings. Things are like half as much as anywhere else. This location has parking in the garage above. It is also right by the Granville stop. If you want to avoid the crowds, the busiest times seem to be right around 6 pm when the after work rush hits, and midday on the weekends. Also, if you get one of the take & bake pizzas you should be aware that it is likely too large to fit in a regular apartment fridge. I'm not trying to discourage you. It's pretty good pizza. I'm sure you could make it work if you had to, but plan on eating the pizza asap. read more

I loathe doing my grocery shopping at this location. Even though it's the closest Aldi to me, I avoid it at all costs. The layout of the store makes it difficult to navigate through the aisles and causes lots of overcrowding and traffic jams. This location also does not attract the best clientele and I've often dealt with someone trying to sell something to me or beg for money while doing my grocery shopping. Currently the parking situation is a huge mess. They're doing some construction in which you have to park on the 2nd floor ramp and walk all the way down to the store. However, they didn't post any signs to inform their customers that there's no longer access to the elevator or staircase in the parking garage so many people were wandering around aimlessly trying to figure out how they were supposed to exit the garage. I feel this is a huge safety hazard as customers have to squeeze past semi trucks that are driving through to drop off merchandise and someone could easily get hit by a vehicle. The parking itself is extremely cramped leaving you just 2 inches of space between your side mirror and the vehicle next to you and is not ideal for loading in groceries. read more

I'd give them 5 stars if they had a liquor license. OK, that's not their fault. It is the fault of the goofballs in the neighborhood blocking liquor licenses. The prices are great and the quality is very good. Shop here. read more

This store is very organized and clean. However, there was a worker named Ben who had a terrible attitude. My best friend was purchasing a few items and her card was decline and he rudely told her, "try it again." then, by my mistake, i forgot that we did not bring a cart in and instinctively pulled the cart. He snatched it back and snappily said, "that's my cart. I need the cart." So I apologized and he just rudely stared. He made my best friend and I extremely uncomfortable. read more

Clean store, easy parking, wide selection and prices that can't be beat. Package goods are generally private label, but many are as good as the name brands they're designed to look like. Have had great luck with the fresh meats and especially the chuck roast and pork chops. Fruits and veggies are a tougher sell, mostly because they are packaged in bulk (too much for me). There's always something new and tasty at this Aldi. Today, I found some delicious pretzel dinner rolls. read more

This is the cleanest, classiest Aldi I've ever been in. They had an imported German pumpernickle bread (you know, the dark, dark thinly sliced little loaf that's about the size of a small brick?) that was absolutely wonderful. I'm tending towards broke here lately, too, so I plan on making Aldi a regular stop. read more

I found chitlings here! Cooked it up and I was in Soul Train heaven!!

I was one of their first customers back in August 2009. Love the staff here and the low prices. Its such a great place ! They have all sorts of stuff and seasonal things too. I wish the lines weren't so long but I don't think there is much that the store can do about it because it's just such a popular place read more

Twice in the last 3 weeks I have had to return spoiled produce to this location; tangerines and cranberries. I was given a refund and invited to take a replacement for free (this is Aldi's policy). However, the replacement supply was just as bad as the produce I returned, so I obviously refused their "generous" offer. In the past I have had other problems with their prepackaged produce. If you are able to pick individual unpackaged items, then you can generally find acceptable produce. read more

I'm a college student and I make the trip to this Aldi from Evanston about once a month. This is a pretty typical Aldi - it's a decent size, it's not dirty, and they've remodeled a lot of the stores recently. There will be cardboard boxes - the display ones most of the food there is stacked in - lying around, but the staff makes rounds to collect them occasionally. I've been impressed with the expanded product lines in recent years. Save for a few exceptions, I find the quality to be pretty comparable compared to brand names. It's pretty basic compared to Dominic's or Jewel, but the savings are fantastic. Bread, cereal, milk/dairy, ground beef, snack foods, and frozens are all good bets and you will save about 50% compared to Jewel. Sometimes you can get lucky on the produce but usually it's a little past its prime. read more

ALDI has become my go to place for groceries. It's not as big as other places but it's still a decently sized place with a lot of things to choose from. The main selling point is the price - it's so cheap. I can have a full basket of many different things and it'd only be worth $30 or so. This is because ALDI makes you pay for shopping carts and plastic bags while they have fewer employees on site. This means rather long lines to check out your stuff but it's the only downside of the experience as it's well worth the annoyance considering all the great prices and things you can get. read more
