I'm not even sure where to begin with this. I've never felt the need to write a yelp review in my life but what just happened was really upsetting. Long story short my service dog was with me on this quick trader Joe's trip and I was approached by a worker who asked me if my dog was a service animal. I explained he was and then this man proceeded to ask "what for" which caught me very off guard and taken aback by this question and reluctantly I told this stranger my personal diagnosis. To which he didn't even give a response he just scoffed and turned away and continued talking to his co worker and walked to the back of the store. I froze afterwards because I didn't want to discuss that with a stranger , I was by the employee door where I could very clearly hear the employees talking about me and my service dog being in the store. I just wanted to cry. I've worked as a waitress and bartender on and off for years, I understand what these people deal with in a daily basis. I was trying to follow the rules of their establishment but was left feeling pretty defeated. I understand asking if the animal is a service animal and I understand not wanting pets in the establishment, but if you say service animals are allowed then why treat guests who are following store polices like this? read more

I've been hearing people tell me about how great the mini sheet carrot cake is and now my teen has been asking to go get these dumplings and snacks. I finally caved and went. Me and the fam had a great experience at the Trader Joe's on Lincoln. Upon entering the store I was greeted with an aisle of beautiful fresh flowers. Always a lovely sight. Some were unique and not ones that you would normally find at your local grocery store such as Jewel. The aisles were well stocked and organized and of course me and the kids made a beeline towards the snack section. I love all the different variety of snacks such as dried mango with chile, the bat shaped potato chips, the fall leaf shaped tortilla chips, and of course I found the mini sheet cake carrot cake! Everything was pretty well organized and the aisles were easy to follow. The size of the store was pretty perfect because I didn't have to walk around too far to find where everything was. Parking lot was a decent size and we found parking right away. Even our checkout experience was fast as there was no line, and yet the store was pretty busy for 7:30pm. The cashiers were fast and efficient and ours was super pleasant and friendly. She even gave my little one a roll of beautiful floral stickers. I feel like I've missed out - cuz me and my kids will be back for more snacks sometime soon. And by the way, the carrot cake was chef's kiss! read more

"Trader Joe's" is a boutique version of grocery store. This is my go-to Trader Joe's though it's not that close to my house, but it's conveniently located near CTA Addison Brown Line so it works for me to come after work. Other than the normal grocery items, the international frozen food definitely catches my attention. One of the repeated buys is the Taiwanese Scallion Pancakes. They are easy to prepare. Once I fry these on a skillet, it's ready to go and all I need is to find my Sriracha sauce. Sometimes, simple food pleasure can just be found in a neighborhood Trader Joe's! I stress less when I shop at a Trader Joe's. They have very talented cashiers who work fast and bag the items systematically and efficiently. There are many times that had to ease my compulsive urge to purchase more than the essentials because I'm open to try them all. I certainly behave and only pick up 1 box of mochi ice cream every time I pass the frozen dessert aisle, so a pad on the shoulder. All the Trader Joe's locations I have been to aren't large, in comparison to big bucks grocery chains out there, yet it makes me feel less overwhelmed as a shopper. The atmosphere is comfortable for the most part. I would say the frozen aisle can get congested and there is no way I can blame the shoppers being curious and adventurous. read more

I should really go to this Trader Joe's more often. The alternative is Diversey which is usually packed full of college students and much further from the train station which is my primary mode of transportation. Looks more local families than college students. Getting older so the shorter walk is appreciated in the winter with my old rusty joints. Good thing they have a decent assortment of buttons and the same great products. Brown line is always much less crowded after Belmont which is A-ok to me cause I'm usually leaving with three reusable trader Joe bags. I have a collection. Today I'm rock the sardine bag and the extra sturdy tan with blue straps which I highly recommend due to its increased depth and strength. For the most part, I've pretty much have only had good experiences at this Trader Joe's. The parking lot is not very big like typical TJ fashion, so if you are coming via a car during peak shopping hours, good luck to you. It's a close walk to the Brown line L station which may be convenient for some. Most of the employees I've encountered here are typically friendly and helpful as well. I would say that's always generally across the board for Trader Joe's though which is why I love returning. Prices have certainly gone up in the last few years with inflation and COVID, but I still find TJ's to have certain items that I can't live without and still (IMO) affordable when comparing to other general grocery stores such as Jewel Osco or Mariano's. I really wish they'd put a Trader Joe's in the Andersonville/Uptown area. It would flourish. read more

This may just be the best TJ's in the whole city. This review is not an exaggeration or a joke, please take it seriously. Are the parking spaces too small? Of course they are, it's Trader Joe's! Should you be walking or biking here anyway (If you have the ability)? Of course you should! This is truly a neighborhood spot that's in between Roscoe Village, North Center and Southport. A short walk south of Irving Park and short walk north of Addison. The staff here is always amazing and willing to help you find anything. They'll even go as far as letting you know when seasonal items will be back, looking at you Green Onion Pancakes. Employees at TJ's are always great, but the A-Team really works at this location. No need to comment on the food selection, but you know it's always well laid out and organized. Everything is super fresh. Excellent wine, beer and alcohol selection. 12/04/20 - Who doesn't love Trader Joe's? They have all the necessities of life. Things like Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups, Ciabatta rolls w/everything (they make such awesome sammiches). They also have a ton of prepared foods for those lazy days when you don't feel like cooking or going out. You can just pop something in the microwave & viola din din is served. I made a killer pork roast last night that was marinated in orange juice, lime juice, fresh oregano, cilantro & tons of garlic w/salt & pepper. I sliced a few pieces of the pork, toasted ciabatta roll (from TJ's), little Mayo, some aioli garlic mustard (TJ's), tomato, blue cheese (TJ's) avocado & arugula (TJ's) There are so many options to create foods that don't break the bank that taste awesome freshly made. Love me a good TJs, and this location is no exception! It's actually even better than the one on Diversey in my opinion. It's much more spacious and less crowded, so a win/win! The staff (like most Trader Joe's) are super friendly and knowledgeable. This location is also EXTREMELY efficient when it comes time to check out. Rarely am I waiting in a line for longer than a few minutes. I love all the specialty items Trader Joe's has to offer, which is why I try to make a trip here at least once every few months. Some of my favorites include: the orange chicken (!!!!!!), everything but the bagel seasoning, chili onion crunch, chocolate peanut butter cups, cookie butter, and hold the cone ice creams. Okay, I actually have a lot more favorites than I thought. A must is coming during the holiday, because they offer so many fun limited edition items and holiday treats! My 2 trips here were so frustrating that I now go out of my way to the TJ store in River North. As an ER doctor intimately familiar with covid, I can't understand the attitudes, ignorance and paranoia in this store. If I managed to take care of the sickest covid patients with respect at the beginning of this pandemic (while wearing a 2-week old recycled mask), I think the employees here should know better than to treat me (or anyone else) like plague. First: no shopping baskets, "because the carts enforce social distancing" I was told by a monotonic voice, no eye contact from the employee - is he even talking to me? But 1) the carts take up SO much aisle space they actually force people into tighter spaces closer together. And 2) the carts take much longer to clean than baskets, what a waste of employee time. Second: "we'll bag things up in your reusable bags. But stay 6 feet away from me" at the register though we're all masked. It significantly slows down the transaction (read: more indoor air each customer is breathing in the store) and, more importantly, makes zero scientific sense. You'll touch (and breathe around) my dirty used bags, but somehow the air I breathed in your store for the past 15 mins won't reach you because 6 ft is that magically protective?! I've given in-person feedback to the manager on their bizarre rules and rude service but alas, no improvements. read more

I reaaaaallly want to give this location five stars. The staff are friendly, the store is well stocked and clean. Honestly though, the parking lot alone makes shopping here a nightmare. Spaces are limited and very small. If you come weeknight evenings or weekend days you're better off parking on Lincoln and walking over. Inside the store can also get very congested depending on when you come to the point that you can't really maneuver a cart around. read more

Where do cashiers get off making fun of customers or commenting on what a customer is buying? The last time I was there I was mocked when I was asking my Grand daughter to do something as they were saying ya (her name) do this do that, mocking me. What gave them the right to do that?! This is not my normal Trader Joe's, but I was up more North than normal, so here we are. TJ's, regardless of how much I love the prices and the quality of the goods sold, most stores are really hard to find anything. The aisles kind of make sense, but not really. They are usually discontinuing items and replacing them with either different or new items entirely. This concept is fantastic, but it's just really hard to navigate the aisles sometimes. This particular location has a large parking lot, but only offers baskets and large carts - unlike my usual spot that offers the smaller double decker carts. Then, you pair that with ALL THE CHILDREN. I honestly forgot that entire families grocery shop. I really did. No shade to families, but holy balls you guys. All in all, I got what I needed for the next week's meal prep, which was the entire point of my visit. read more

My heart gets so happy just thinking about my neighborhood Trader Joe's. The staff is fantastic. Bright, bubbly and kind. I've never had a single cashier that hasn't engaged in conversation. Not the awkward, forced conversation, but authentic conversation about weekend plans, the olympics, or whatever is happening in the news. The food is fantastic. Fresh, organic produce that isn't overly expensive. I'm head over heels for all of their "reduced guilt" frozen foods (especially the macaroni and cheese!). And when I need a good sweet treat, I always grab their chocolate covered pretzel slims, mini peanut butter cups or mini chocolate cupcakes. So many choices, so little time. The customer service is fantastic. I've had cashiers let me try things before purchasing so that I know if I want to buy the particular product or not. Sometimes they've saved me from a return, because I really didn't like whatever we sampled. And speaking of their return policy, that's fantastic, too! If you don't like it, bring it back. Maybe this is the place to go to if you rely mostly on frozen or ready meals because I saw an aisle full of such food. Not a lot of options when it comes to fresh produce. Rates are a bit on the higher side. For a person like me who cooks every meal from scratch, there is nothing much to choose from. Big turn off is they use loads of plastic to wrap things. Each cabbage , cucumber or vegetables which can easily be left to be picked up normally without a cover is wrapped in plastic. But I always make a point of stopping to check out the latest collection of orchids. And there, I saw the most beautiful, healthy phalenopsis just begging me to pick it up and take it home. Two stems, full of fresh blooms as well as blooms yet to open. Only $12.99. How could I not? I finished my shopping and went to check out. I mentioned to Linda, the cashier, that I'd visited a local nursery the week before. Buying an orchid is my annual birthday gift to myself. I told Linda that neither of the orchids I bought from that other place was nearly as beautiful as my TJ's selection. Without missing a beat, Linda said "Happy Birthday Month! This one's on the house." I just looked at her, without a clue what to say! Obviously I hadn't been angling for a freebie. But I'm grateful. Thank you, Linda. Thank you, TJ's. It used to be my biggest nightmare to go anywhere near this place on a weekend, but this past weekend it was unavoidable, so I gritted my teeth and off I went. To my surprise and delight, my visit was an absolute breeze. I had forgotten that CB2 closed, and with that, it meant more parking and an expansion of TJ's. Even though there are still moms who insist on letting their little darlings use the mini shopping carts, I can't even complain because the aisles are wider and the store feels less crowded now that there's more room to maneuver. Bonus: Their wine department has expanded! I will no longer fear coming here on a weekend or feel the need to pop a valium first. read more

I have no idea what I did before Trader Joe's came into the area. Well yes I do...spent alot of money on healhier food at the other grocery stores in Chicago. I buy about 90% of my groceries a week now at Trader Joe's. Their food is tasty, healthy and so affordable. The staff is friendly and helpful. This past week when I was at check out the checker noticed that my peppers looked a little funny so he called to have someone get me another carton. Well the other carton they brought me really didn't look that much better and since that was the last of their stock they gave me both cartons for free. :) I love TJ's. I just wish they had more locations in the Chicago area. I live in Edgewater so I mostly go to the Lincoln Avenue store but I would love to have one built in my area. read more
