Have used Alderwood twice on large backyard living space projects and recommend them highly. First, they take the time to work with you on a design (they have designers on staff) that incorporates all elements, provide you with material samples, pictures, etc. When we struggled to make decisions they took us "shopping" to see samples (light fixtures, paver types, etc) and helped us visualize. We've been really impressed by this process. The construction crews are highly professional. They are thoughtful and careful with neighbors when dealing with moving equipment in and out, noise, and those kinds of things. They are great communicators and set really good expectations about project length and other details. When we asked for tweaks or changes midstream there was never any grousing or grumbling - they were very focused on making sure we were 100% happy. The guys are our crew were Colin, Max and Michael, and Patrick was the Construction Manager. In both cases, the finished projects were even more stunning than we expected. Top notch. read more

If I could give them 1,000 stars, I would! This is white glove service from planning to execution and the team is laser focused on pleasing the customer. I'm completely blown away by the service and hope to be able to use them again. Tim Glass was our architect and not only was he fantastic at building what we wanted within our budget, he also was honest when he thought my ideas wouldn't work out and took time to explain why. He was constantly adjusting plans on the fly when we threw things at him and always had a can do attitude. Tim and Johnny were always available to answer questions or offer opinions about colors, materials, plan changes, etc. Most companies lose their customer service at execution, but here's where Alderwood manages to take it up another level. Nick (you must get Nick!) and his team Jose (another gem) and 2 others have an incredible eye for detail and take great pride in their work and making you happy. Nick seems to think of everything and not only is our new yard perfect, he left our driveway cleaner than when they came, cleaned up after the sub contractors (even after Alderwood was gone), did some cleaning up in areas that were out of scope, ensured the tiniest detail was considered, and chased down the subcontractors. Any tiny change to the plan and he wanted to review with me. He also was sure not to inconvenience our garage bays or us in any way. We had Alderwood Landscape Architecture and Construction design, reimagine, and reconstruct our backyard, and we absolutely LOVE it! We are giving ALDERWOOD 5 STARS but we would give them a GAZILLION more stars if we could. Let us just say we fell in love with this company and the dynamic team from the first contact with Nicole (sales and office assistant) and during our first visit from Tim Glass (Head Landscape Architect) to discuss our project. Then we were awestruck again when Devin Vine (site leader) and his AWESOME crew of Jose Sr, Jose Jr and Santos walked into our backyard and immediately put us at ease with their bias for action, attention to detail and customer obsession. Then we met Johnny Struiksma AKA "Iron Man"! Johnny is the backbone of the operation and his background as a landscape architect, skill in leading and managing people and problem solving was central to the success of the project. The Alderwood team had to deal with poor drainage, complex requirements, logistic issues, and many other things. They addressed all these challenges with professionalism, poise, and excellent communication. The result was a beautiful "Zen like" backyard oasis that exceeded our expectations. These guys continually go door to door in my neighborhood despite there being no soliciting laws in my area. They leave flyers on my door when I'm not home despite my "No Soliciting" sign. They have even called my house....I'm on the "Do Not Call" List. Perhaps it's because a few years ago when we decided to redo our patio we got a bid from them. They were $28k higher than the other bids we got, and very pushy. I could tell my patio was going to be anything but the way I wanted it. He belittled my ideas and the other materials I wanted to use. I could see if we went with them it wasn't going to end up as my dream backyard but theirs. I am so happy I went with a different company. We love our backyard, it looks beautiful and we get lots of compliments. Anyone brazen enough to ignore people's "No Soliciting" and continue to bother them probably isn't someone you want to work with. read more

Our experience with Alderwood Landscaping was great! From our initial introductory conversations, to visiting sites where their work was in process and completed, we were impressed. We were listened to, our specific considerations were accommodated, we received options and advice and benefited from their experience and knowledge in creating a beautiful landscape in total keeping with our unique outdoor space. Description of work: We built our home in 1981 and after raising our family decided to make our outdoor "dream landscaping" come true. The professional team at Alderwood Landscaping exceeded our expectations in creating a beautifully inviting patio, leading to a northwest natural water feature and fire pit. The field team for our project was headed by Seth and he and his crew were able to complete our major outdoor project in the middle of a very wet winter, on time and on budget. Our hobby continues to be our home and garden and visiting gardens while getting ideas for our own landscaping is how we spend free time. Over the years we have a long list of don't want's and have developed a critical eye for landscaping projects that look man-made or have an unnatural feel. We knew we wanted our dream water feature, fire pit, patio and pathways to not only be beautiful but also we wanted the space to compliment the natural contours of our outdoor space. The pricing of Alderwood is higher than some available options, but so is their quality and outcome. Check their website for picture proof. This is a long one, so here's the bottom line: these guys are highly professional, dedicated, responsive, experienced individuals who will bend over backwards to create your dream outdoor space. The nitty gritty--We contacted these guys in July 2017 to discuss our project involving a large covered stone patio, water feature, hot tub, and fire pit. About a week later we met with architect Tim Glass who we ended up meeting with 4 more times over the next 2 months to finalize our dream concept. While concessions had to be made in order to accommodate our budget, all the features we wanted ended up being included in some form or another. Tim doesn't cut corners just to get a design done. He really takes the time to work and rework his plan in order to make you 100% happy. Once we approved the design and paid a hefty deposit, work was scheduled to start the week before Thanksgiving. That's when we met the best workers and human beings we've gotten to meet in our lives. Our assigned team of builders showed up everyday by 7:30 am and worked daily until after dark. Seth (aka Cuddly Pitbull), the project manager, isn't just a outstanding builder. He's a true gentleman, an artist, a guy who takes pride in his work, a joy to have around. He and his sidekicks Collin (aka The Flash) and Jordan (aka Johnny Depp) worked steadily in the rain and the cold with the most positive attitude. I would sometimes interrupt them in the middle of challenging work to request that a certain thing be done a certain way and they would happily comply. Their energy and composure in harsh weather conditions were truly inspirational. Our project was completed in 6 weeks, quicker than expected. They left everything spotless, which was no small feat considering how muddy the whole situation had been. The result was mind blowing. Not only did everything look beautiful, but it was DONE RIGHT. No more drainage issues or poorly located sprinkler heads. The materials used make everything a breeze to maintain. We enjoyed having these guys around so much, it was hard to see them leave. The supervisory team was equally outstanding. Johnny Struiksma was in charge of communication and supervision. Not only would he stop by the job site on a regular basis, he was easy to reach via email and responded to our inquiries within a couple of hours. On the rare occasion that he wasn't available, Dann Van Hook would step in for him. Johnny also took care of communicating with the subcontractors on our behalf, which relieved us of ay additional burden. Work and payment schedules were always communicated to us clearly, and always in writing. Towards the end of the project, Johnny emailed to make sure we didn't have any final requests and that everything was done to our liking. It's now been a few months since the project was completed and we LOVE our backyard. We spend more time in our outdoor space than inside, rain or shine. Alderwood is simply the best builder we've ever worked with and it's heartwarming these days to know that there are still people out there who take pride in their work and not just out to make a quick buck. I have several rental properties that I have remodeled, and it is safe to say I have worked with hundreds of contractors from every trade. I hired Alderwood to remodel our backyard, which was an unusable slope. Tim Glass worked with us on a design which included grading to terrace the yard, expanding the deck, and adding a fountain, firepit, and hot tub. Tim is a talented landscape architect. He initial design was inspired, and he worked with us to edit the design 3 times until it was exactly what we wanted. When it came time to get permits, the city (Sammamish) was really strict with us because we were in a sensitive zone. Tim scheduled meetings with the city and after much effort getting engineering reports and submitting extra material, he got us approved. Then we had a problem with a nutty neighbor, and Tim offered to give the neighbor free landscaping work. They took care of everything to move the project forward. Finally it came time to do the work. Alderwood's crew was probably the most professional I have ever worked with. They were here everyday. They kept the place as clean as possible.They were all experienced. Every time I wanted a change, they did it, no problem. The plants Tim chose were great, lots of color. The placement of the rockeries was well thought out, with lots of little touches. Drainage, irrigation, and landscape lighting were all done right. We decided to have them do the front yard, too. Our yard now looks like a resort out of a magazine. I would heartily recommend Alderwood Landscaping to anyone considering major landscaping work on their house. read more

I started researching landscape projects several years ago. My first meeting with Tim Glass was approximately 2016. We again revisited in 2018, and I explained what I wanted in terms of cascading waterfall, lights, a place for a hottub, and we put plans into action in 2018, and began and finished the project in 2019. I have met a few of The Alderwood team members, although Jordan and Tim have been my key points of contact throughout. Even to this day over Labor Day, on Labor Day Jordan fielded my call with questions on how to drain the waterfall for algae cleaning. Tim is always available for questions as well. These guys have been awesome. I unfortunately don't have the luxury of traveling much these days, so my backyard is my mental retreat and my oasis. Cant recommend highly enough. I hesitate to give three stars- maybe it should be less? We hired Alderwood Landscaping to renovate our boring, plain backyard. They did a good job designing it (nothing creative; same style they use on almost all their landscaping) and promptly started work. The job was completed within a few months. The problems arose after they left. We have had issues with the fountain (doesn't work) they installed and our fence they took down to gain access to our backyard (fence won't stay up). Our repeated attempts to contact Alderwood remain unanswered/ignored. After we paid them well into the six figures for our backyard, their build and skip town philosophy leaves a very bad taste In our mouth. If we don't get this resolved, I will have to revise my three stars to something less. I am being kind by giving three. read more

We hired Alderwood to redo our landscaping that had previously done by another company. We are so grateful we did. They helped architect not only the landscaping but the entire flow of our property. They listened to what we wanted our property to be and incorporated that into the design. They created a flow from the pool into the house that was more practical than what the design/build team produced. They created a true "back yard". They were practical and efficient with what they suggested and helped us create stages of work so that we could phase out the landscaping since we were doing a remodel and installing a pool at the same time. Their guidance was spot on and I have received so many compliments on the landscaping and water feature. They built us a water feature that eliminates street noise and is the focal of our front yard. They also worked with some crazy constraints that our property had (wetlands, septic, private well, setbacks) and gave us what we wanted. They did such a fantastic job..I just can't say enough positive. We learned the hard way that going with the less expensive option is not always the best plan. We will always use Alderwood Landscaping for any future landscaping needs. read more
