I contacted them for a quote to resurface our deck. I was contacted by their landscape designer who…read moresaid that I needed to pay thousands of dollars to him for a plan to be drawn for the deck. I was confused because it's preexisting and I don't want to change it. He then told me that this was required by the city and I would need a permit! I was astounded because that's a lie! It's not my first deck project so I knew repairs and maintenance do not require a permit. I also received several other quotes from licensed and bonded contractors and no one thought I needed a permit.

Octavio was the only one who figured out the logistics of getting a Bobcat on-site and offered a clear path forward. While we worked with a separate landscape designer, Octavio's on-the-ground expertise actually improved the final result. He suggested practical modifications to the original terrace and retaining wall plans that better suited our terrain, which saved us significant costs. Beyond the major earth-moving, he handled: - Full Front Yard Renovation: High-quality work at a very fair price. - ADU Infrastructure: Trenching and installation for electric, water, and sewer lines. - Finishing Touches: Expert irrigation, lighting, and planting. What truly sets him apart is his character. When raccoons tore up our new sod, Octavio offered to repair it under warranty, even though it wasn't his fault. If you have a 'impossible' yard or just want someone honest and highly skilled, Octavio is your guy.

I try to be a reasonable person and I, in my opinion gave BAYSL more than enough 2nd, 3rd and even…read more4th chances. Despite their claim of being the "#1 concrete driveway contractor in the SF Bay Area," and assurances of quality and timeliness, my experience with BAYSL was overwhelmingly negative. If you value a correctly done or on-time project, I strongly advise looking elsewhere. Communication has been a HUGE issue. Repeated calls, texts, emails, and follow-up attempts were consistently ignored. Furthermore, BAYSL failed to honor their written "1-year workmanship warranty" when problems arose, choosing instead to abandon the project and cease contact. The project involved a steep driveway requiring traction lines, which BAYSL assured me they could handle. Despite extensive discussions and detailed visual aids provided to ensure alignment, the execution was deeply flawed from the beginning. The initial wooden form was uneven and wavy, requiring my intervention to correct. The first concrete pour was equally problematic. On a day exceeding 90 degrees, the team appeared unprepared and struggled to implement the agreed-upon traction lines, resulting in a visibly messy driveway. Ultimately, they agreed to cut out and redo the entire driveway. Trusting their expertise, I allowed them a second attempt in October 2023. I was assured they had prepared and tested the necessary tools for the traction lines. However, on the day of the replacement pour, their new tool appeared unused, and my concerns were dismissed. Predictably, the second attempt to create traction lines also failed, resulting in a rough finish. While a discount was provided to placate me on now owning an ugly driveway, the issues did not end there. Within 6-8 months, cracks appeared in the concrete, and the overlays used for curb cleanup began to break. I reported these issues in June 2024. After a week's delay, they promised to follow up, but it took another two weeks and a follow-up email to receive a response. Eventually, AJ and Danny inspected the damage and agreed to address it. However, this was followed by another period of silence. After multiple follow-up emails in July and August, AJ finally outlined a plan of action in mid-August and promised a date for repairs. Despite my prompt response, there was no further communication. Subsequent follow-up emails in September and October were largely ignored, with a brief reply in late September stating repairs would occur "in the coming month." A request for a phone call was also ignored. By late 2024 and early 2025, their Yelp and Google listings indicated temporary closure, and their company email address bounced. I assumed the situation was a lost cause. However, noticing their Yelp page reactivated recently, I decided to try again. Unsurprisingly, there was no response to my outreach. As a last resort, a friend contacted them for a landscaping inquiry, and Dennis responded, expressing interest in new work. This provided me with a working alternative email address, which I used to contact Dennis and AJ again about the outstanding repairs. Dennis responded that they "never got any of the emails" and were "waiting for better weather conditions" - despite months of inaction across various weather conditions. He also stated he was no longer involved in day-to-day operations and directed me to Danny. I texted Danny, who said AJ would contact me. I have yet to hear from AJ, and Danny no longer responds to my texts. In summary, BAYSL demonstrated a pattern of poor communication, unprofessional execution, failure to honor their warranty, and ultimately, abandonment of the project. Their initial claims of being a top contractor in the Bay Area are in stark contrast to the reality of my experience.

We had a great experience NAB Construction! Our pickleball court had broken concrete on one end,…read moreand was too short on the other. NAB removed all the bad concrete and replaced it with pavers, and on the other side of the court, they added 5 feet of concrete where we had lawn, as well as adding to our existing retaining wall. After the pavers were installed, I noticed something not to my preference with the paver layout. I contacted Nick, our site manager from NAB, and he was very responsive, and arranged for Nate (the company president) to come out right away and discuss the matter, which was resolved that same day to my complete satisfaction. Nick also was happy to arrange for a few other small tasks related to bricks and concrete on our property to be taken care of, and they were - at no added cost. NAB construction was not the lowest bid we got for this work, but I have learned the hard way that going with the lowest price is not always a great idea, and I am glad I went with NAB for this project. I'm very satisfied with the results of this project, and would not hesitate to recommend NAB construction to others.

We wanted a walkway installed so we went back but this time we dealt with someone by the name of Nick Vard. He was very unprofessional and used the terms "outside the scope of work" and asked us to make a "commitment" several times. I went to Brickyard on a Saturday at 8AM per the direction of Nick but when I called him about our selection he never called me back. He blamed us and said they lost money on the job because it took longer than expected. He tried to convince me to use a brick I did not like. And the biggest disappointment was the drainage that they left unfinished. We spent almost $10k but we feel like the job is incomplete. Wish we could recommend them but if they continue working with Nick Vard you should stay away.

We ran into some difficulties at the start due to a last-minute cancellation by Matt and some unresponsiveness through email. When we voiced our concerns, Matt really stepped up to ensure our concerns were met. He immediately refunded us for the cost of the service, and he offered to meet with us at no cost. We ended up taking a 30 minute video chat with him, and Matt was super helpful in explaining various options. When we realized that his typical project scope was a bit bigger than what we wanted to spend, Matt was very gracious in connecting us with other contractors and designers. Despite the early hiccups, we got the sense that Matt is a genuine guy who is more interested in doing the right thing rather than making quick buck. We really appreciate his thoughtfulness, and we will definitely consider engaging with his services again in the future!

His feedback for our questions and experience with similar projects were very beneficial to starting this backyard project for us.

What a wonderful experience I had working with The Garden Girls!…read more I wanted to work with a small, local company who could give me ideas on all new plants for my front and backyard, as well as purchase and plant these. After doing some research, I decided to go with The Garden Girls and called Barb. Since she lives nearby, she was able to come out that afternoon, and while talking to Barb, I knew I had made the right choice. She's passionate about her work and is extremely knowledgeable of her plants and what works best in my area. Barb then sent me drawings of the plants and where they would be placed, along with descriptions of each plant. There were a few that I had in the past and didn't really like, and so Barb selected other varieties for these with no problem at all. She also suggested some minor changes be made to the existing rock landscape, which I approved. These small changes made a huge difference! Ed and Stacy did the planting and changes to the rocks. They are the most hard-working and dedicated workers I've seen. Their attention to detail is beyond, and they were always ready to answer any questions I had. While planting, Stacy suggested putting a succulent garden in an existing cracked birdbath I had in the backyard. Ed did the planting and was extremely meticulous when doing so. When finished, it was absolutely beautiful, and so I also had Ed do the same to an old birdbath in the front yard as well. My yards are beyond gorgeous and bring me so much happiness now. Ed and Stacy also removed and replaced mulch in my Mom's front yard, and Ed created yet two more beautiful succulent gardens in her backyard. One being in a three-tiered fountain that had leaked and was no longer being used. It's added so much color to the yard. I recommend Barb and her team to anyone looking to have landscape work done.
