There is really no competition for this local Mediterranean chain in the Covington/Mandeville area, but we are sure okay with that. Always the nicest staff, quick service, and the yummiest food. Food was really good. We ordered chicken shawarma plate, gyro plate and feta olive appetizer. I asked for more salad instead of rice but you could also get more hummus instead. Chicken was a little on the dry side but tasty. I was enjoying my gyro meat until I bit down on something hard-maybe a small piece of bone-and cracked a tooth! We have been getting take out more than eating there lately and I swear this is the only establishment that gives bigger portions then if we eat there, which is great. My husband had the chicken and gyro combination plate, the portions were huge, he literally was only able to finish half of it before he was too full. To me, albasha has always been great. From Baton Rouge to Covington, I have never been disappointed here. The chicken shawarma is my go-to, and I can't honestly say I've had anything else as an entree in all the years I've been going. The falafel is really good, as well as the baba ghanouj, but the hummus is by far the best. My mother will just have that as her entree, sometimes. I'm not really sure if there are any other options for Greek fare on the north shore, but if that's what you're looking for, or looking for somethings that's simple, quick and delicious, this is definitely an option. read more

This place is really on my list of food fetishes that I gotta get out of my system at least once every few months. I come and get the meal for two. It comes with everything and more you could ever want (for only $24). And it could feed way more than two people! I always make a habit of boxing the rest and taking it home so I can eat off of it for another day or two. It's a great place and despite being byob I really don't mind because I just stop at Breaux Mart and pick up a bottle of wine to share while I'm there. I love that they play this Middle Eastern music video channel on the televisions there. I think the music is fun and it's interesting to watch how different the videos are from what comes on our typical media stations. Just some good ol' Mediterranean food. I've never been disappointed with anything that I've ordered at Albasha, and the wait staff is almost better than their food. The service is fast, without sacrificing the quality of the food. While I love everything I've eaten there, I'm quite partial to the Grape Leaves and their Hummus. I've been here several times, both to the Hammond and Covington locations. It is very nice to have good Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food on the Northshore. I went on Sunday for lunch with my sister-in-law and little nephew. I am a fool for falafel and had a falafel sandwich with fries. It was yummy and the iced tea is Community iced tea, brewed strong (this is a good thing). They only have the pink stuff and sugar, at least judging by my table, so bring your own yellow stuff. My sister-in-law had a gyro with a salad and hummus on the side, which she liked. The nephew ate some hummus and pita and enjoyed the fountains. They have one pretty fountain inside and one in an outside seating area. I will have to try the outside seating sometime after September. read more

Gyros and chicken shawarma are excellent as is the hummus. I usually order the Albasha plate so I can get some grape leaves and a kibbi. Service is prompt and efficient. Once in a while the food is not as perfect , but generally it is wholesome and delicious. read more

Consistently good food. Albasha's is more Lebanese than Greek but very good all the same. I have been eating at Albasha for over 20 years and I have to say they are one of the most consistent restaurants around. They are all located in strip malls and pretty consistent with their casual décor at all of the locations. The N Hwy 190 location is no exception when it comes to the amount and quality of food served. The shrimp spinach salad and shrimp kabobs are amazing and satisfies the Cajun in me every time. The eggplant mousaka and baba ganoush have always been favorites as well as the Lamb shank which literally melts in your mouth and the chicken and gyros. Cabbage rolls and grape leaves are moist and seasoned with just the right amount of seasoning. Kibbis are always seasoned and love the additional pine nuts. The Albasha platter (we always opt for the chicken and gyro) is the perfect size for two people and offers a varied choice of sides. The mezza for two will feed my family of 4 and we are all very satisfied with our options and substitutions can be made to any of the menu items. They also offer vegetarian platter with lots of veggie options so you can create your own plate. The Lebanese tea is delish and we always drink more than our $2 dollars worth. read more

I've been a regular at Albasha bouncing between the Hammond and Covington locations. While I've tried a great deal of the menu, I find myself getting the combination Chicken Shawarma and Gyro plate. The flavors are consistent and the portions are huge. On the down side, the service may be slipping slightly. I see the owners there constantly, but the last few times I've been there, the tables have been sticky (that kind of bugs me out) and the wait staff could be more engaging (I don't need a hug, but a smile and "how are you tonight" would be nice). Also, they have stopped adding pine nuts to the Lebanese iced tea. When I asked, I was told they are too expensive. I guess I can bring me own next time. on the UP side, if you ask, the owner will change the TV stations from CNN (ugh, really? News in the dining room?) to Middle Eastern MTV. The videos are amazing. Beautiful hot babes loving on big, sweaty hairy dudes with lots of necklaces! WINNING! All in all, it's a well run group with a tasty, reliable product. read more

Like Alabasha however dine in only, takeout is completely different. On this past Wednesday tried takeout for a second time and for the second time it was very disappointing. The first takeout time we ordered lunch beef kabobs and the meat serving was small and chewy. Then a couple of weeks ago went back for dine in to give them another chance and the lunch beef kabobs were outstanding and we had leftovers. This past Wednesday we ordered three meals a combination plate, a well done beef kabob and a medium well beef kabob. The combination plate was a large portion. The two kabob plates appeared that the serving portion was split between the two plates. It also was almost burnt and very dry. The kabobs were very small too. As I didn't have time to return it due to work limitations I was stuck with it. It shouldn't make any difference between take out and dine in. read more

In my most recent visit, a thick dark brown/black hair was found in my food half way through eating it.
