Alan's is a throwback shoe store for sure. Its big, like stores in the 80s. We were looking for Brooks and they had plenty, plus alot of other high end brands like Nike, Mephisto, Hoka, and New Balance. We arrived at 530, and they closed at six. We were engaged quickly by a couple of people on the team. My wife has a unique shoe fit so the knowledgeable manager got involved to help out. Although she was unable to buy, we found the customer service exemplary, the sales floor very clean, and the staff very engaged. Kudos all around. read more

I was very disappointed in the service I got at this Alan's Shoes store. I waited for a long time for someone to come to the men's shoes section. I finally got sick of waiting and went to the front counter and convinced a store employee to help me. I bought a pair of shoes and left. The next day I wore these shoes and found out that one shoe was too small in the upper-left hand toe area. The shoe rubbed against two toes and took off all the skin. I called Alan's and asked if I could exchange the shoes for another pair. (I had done this once before with no problem). This time around Alan's refused to guarantee that I could exchange the shoes, despite the fact that they had done so before. I will NEVER go to Alan's again. read more

I ordered a pair of Finn Comfort shoes from Amazon; super pricy but I have horrid feet! However, a mixup occurred and I was sent two shoes of different sizes. When preparing to send them back, I noted that the third-party vendor was Alan's Shoes in Tucson, so I called their flagship store to see if a direct exchange was possible. Having to send the shoes back and then being able to get a reshipment through Amazon was chancy. I spoke to Joey at Alan's who said he'd check and call me back in the morning, as it was almost closing time. First thing Wednesday morning, Joey called and said no problem, come on down as they would make the exchange. So that's what I did. Although Oracle and Rudasill are on the other side of the world from the far northeast side, it was so worth it. I was greeted by the store manager who said he had the shoes waiting for me in his office. Time saved, shipping eliminated, and a guarantee of getting what I wanted. The customer service is terrible here. When I asked what colors the model's shoe came in the salesman got super defensive and told me that he didn't have all the colors memorized. I asked him a few more questions about the shoes and he kept getting more and more upset. I asked him why he was getting defensive and he told me that customers keep "asking him the same questions all the time". Are you kidding? I think this person is in the wrong line of work if product questions upset him. I have been buying shoes from Alan's for years and the level of customer has been, admittedly, pretty spotty. However, I know what I want so I can just walk in and get what I need without too much fuss and overlook the lousy attitudes. I'm not going to analyze it, but the employees do not seem happy to be there. After dealing with this particular salesman, I am going to start ordering online from now on. We took our 91 year old mother in to buy shoes. She tried on a dozen or more pairs and in the end decided she didn't want to buy any shoes. I bought a pair of Hoka running shoes from this store. I normally wear a size 46 but this size was not in stock. The salesman convinced me that size 45 would actually be the correct fit. The shoes proved to be too tight but when I tried to return them I was turned down because I did not have the original box. At the same time that I bought the Hokas I ordered a pair of Finn Comfort sandals, which had to be ordered, again because the correct size was not in stock. The Finn Comforts never arrived so I was able to cancel that order. While I like to support local businesses I would stay away from this place. Their stock levels appear to be low and they don't seem to care about pleasing the customer. read more

I like this store but I don't like the way they do business..he bought a pair of hiking shoes, great, no problem. On a separate transaction I bought a small purse for $49.95. I was charged $8.00 tax. When we questioned it the young guy could not show us a paper receipt, just said not to worry and he would text us one soon. When we got home the text only showed the total, not a breakdown of the item and tax. I don't believe the tax rate in Tucson on Oracle is !6%. It seems very deceitful. read more

Nice store. I was looking for walking shoes that would give me support and help with my posture. Karrissa the sales associate that assisted me with trying on about 15 pairs of shoes. I ended up buying the ones she recommended first. She was very persuasive and she was correct. I wore them on a trip in which I had a delay at the airport and walked while waiting my 2 hour delay. I felt I was walking on a cloud. Hoka tennis shoes are expensive, but give the support needed. Karissa also gave me a list of the leather shoes I'm interested in so I can return to get them. Alan's shoes also carry Feetures a type a sock that are good for running, walking, everyday, etc. I'm writing this review after having my Hokas for 20 days and usage on many terrains. When I entered the store, a man gave me the required greeting then walked away, not interested in helping me. I thought, maybe he is having a bad day, so I walked around looking at shoes. A couple minutes later a woman entered the store. She was conservatively dressed with the bob haircut so popular with older ladies. He greeted her with a smile and continued to talk with her finding out what she was looking for. He stayed with her, cheerfully helping and chatting. So, now I know he judged me by how I looked, and was not interested in helping me. He should not judge. He was sloppy and hairy, looking like he just rolled out of bed. I am very casual, but don't judge my wallet by how I look! And....how dare him treat me differently because he didn't like the way I look. FYI....I am college educated and a veteran. Unfortunately they discriminate against their loyal long-standing customers that have medical reasons for not being able to where a mask. It is clearly documented in the governor/mayor's ordinance that those with medical issues are exempt from wearing a mask. Curbside service does not help when you need to try items on to assure proper fit also due to medical reasons. On that note, curbside service way not offered and when it was stated would not return, their reply was okay. Apparently they do not value their customers. read more

THE BIG 180 I was bilked out of $180 by a self-proclaimed "expert" employee of this store last summer. I have ongoing foot pain and the expert claimed my purchase would address my issues and resolve the genesis for the pain. Geez, nothing like taking advantage of someone desperately seeking help to lessen his pain. I've had a number of real experts in the podiatry arena tell me the shoe sold to me was 180 degrees away from the shoe necessary to address my problem. After trying unsuccessfully to get someone to let me try on shoes in the Speedway location yesterday, I drove to the Oracle Location today anxious to purchase a pair of athletic shoes. Sales rep didn't listen or take my concerns seriously, brought out exactly the pair I told her I didn't think would work and spoke condescendingly to me when I told her the shoes were too tight in the toe box. Alan's shoes used to have shoe fit experts that could speak expertly about the shoes they offer and help you find shoes that met your specific needs. Now, the sales reps are just that sales reps - no better than shoe salesmen at DSW. If you need someone to help with fit or have any special foot/ankle needs, go to Fleet Feet instead for athletics walking/running shoes. read more

I went to Alan's on Oracle last week to buy a pair of Birkenstock's. I knew the model name, my size, and saw they had it on display. The grumpy, very old man who "helped" me told me it was a sale shoe and they didn't have any. I asked if he could check the other locations and he said no, they wouldn't have them. The price on the shoe was full price. I know this because I have two colors of this style. I wanted to shop local, but instead wound up ordering it on Amazon for $15 less. Local stores cannot compete with online sellers if they are unwilling to provide good customer service-and they can't complain if they keep this caliber of employees! I've been to Alan's about 4 times. Last fall I bought a pair of Clarks I've been very happy with. I happen to mention I had a new pair of New Balance cross-trainers (bought in before I moved here) that had split out on the side. The sales man told me to go to New Balance online and they would exchange them. I hadn't thought of that before, and he was right. NB exchanged them (although NB online didn't have the greatest customer service) Yay! The 2nd time was the only time I got a a bit of a rude reception. It was just before Christmas so maybe everyone was stressed. Anyway, they were giving away a free box of Christmas cards to all customers. When I told the sales woman I didn't need them and to give my box to someone else she became a bit perturbed and a salesman nearby glared at me. Again maybe a bad day. The last 2 times two different sales women helped me and they were fun, helpful and I have been happy with my purchase. I like their selection of shoes. I have rather narrow and feet with a low instep which makes it a royal pain to find shoes. The people I have worked with there seemed to know their stuff and helped me find cute, comfortable shoes that actually fit. read more

I have bought several pairs of shoes here and the ones I get here are the ones that I keep wearing-largely because of the helpful service and time given to me to make sure the shoes really fit. I'm one of those people that buys shoes thinking they will work and then they stay in my closet. Every pair of shoes I have gotten at Alan's are worn regularly. The staff takes plenty of time to fit you and make sure you are happy with your choice. They have a pretty good selection. Prices are not cheap but if you are finding a shoe you will wear almost every day until they wear out, this is the place to go. I didn't feel pressured in any way-just the right amount of service. They occasionally have a sale but usually there is a coupon for at least $10.00 off. If you have hard to fit feet, it is definitely the best place to go in my opinion. I've been trying out different styles of shoes which requires going to different places and trying to find a fit for my flat feet. It's not easy and I have found that wherever I go, I have to rely on a good salesperson who knows what they have and can work with me. I tried a pair of flip flops, got them home and they started to hurt. Took them back, and as promised the salesperson worked out the issue and sent me off with another pair. Bought a pair of berkinstocks that the sales person recommended for my plantar fasititis. Said they would help and that's what she wears. One hundred and thirty dollars. After wearing then around the house only for 3 weeks my other foot and legs where killing me. Stopped wearing them and have gotten better everyday. Tried to exchange them for something that could help my problem and was told I could not return them because they where worn. The sales person said you have to break them in wearing them one hr a day for awhile I was never told that by the sales person. Would never go back there again or send anyone to that store. The Shoe House is a New Balance store and it is a good place to buy shoes in Tucson. You may have noticed all the big shoe stores in Tucson. There used to be "Just for Feet." Now there's "shoe pavillion" which is never capitalized. The reason it is not capitalized is that these places do not deserve to be proper nouns. They are always overrun with Tucson people who are apparently crazed out of their mind for more sneakers thus perpetuating the need for many, many standalone shoe superstores where people fight over the last pair of whatever and are outnumbered by useless sales staff that do nothing but stand in the way.
