One of the best stores in Tucson history the tactical community will miss this place!

This place is closing, I'm sad that I didn't get a chance to visit sooner. There was a huge line out the door since it was their going out of business sale. Super hot inside. If you can get there before they close I think this weekend? 4/4/26.. you'll get a good deal! Sad to see this 75 yr old business close. Can't really speak to service as we didn't buy anything. They need to change the name to Miller's Outdoor, the surplus is practically non-existent. If you're looking for a store like the one on 6th Avenue long,long ago, or like the ones on YouTube overflowing with all manner of military gear,you will be sorely disappointed. It's closed, permanently. There's no merchandise, no employees, no store, as they closed their doors and I didn't get to the final days clearout, but it all went quick and what I really wanted was the 100% cotton bandanas they sold, back when it was a store. read more

This place used to be an eclectic treasure-chest of interesting and useful items you could never find elsewhere. It has changed, and not for the better, IMHO. The staff was cordial, which was nice. Walked around for about 30 minutes, and I was shocked to find ALMOST NO MILITARY SURPLUS/USED items anywhere! There was a decent selection of new tactical clothing, but I could count the number of actual surplus items on the fingers of both hands. (AND BTW I lost my small finger of my left hand in a farming accident years ago). Their selection of combat knives was unusually impressive - fortunately, I no longer have a need for those, but I now know where to get them. The place is a shell of what it once was, and lacks any of its character. I won't be going back. I think I'll have to try eBay...... read more

Great store! I am staying out at Starr Pass and doing hikes in Saguaro. In 2 days, I am headed to Sedona. The forecast has drastically changed & it is showing 40's, 50's and rain one day. This South Florida girl only has shorts with her (nice slacks for the flight). Came here to buy a pair of BDU's and I wasn't disappointed. Not only were there LOTS of patterns, (current & retired), but they had used for a bargain $9.99! I snagged the perfect pair of Army Marpat. They will be perfect for Sedona trails. This store has all kinds of camping gear and bags and knives. I thought everything was super reasonably priced & everyone was friendly. Parking is metered due to the location. I had 50¢ in my pocket which got me 30 minutes. Meters also take CC's. read more

Everyone here is so helpful! Great prices and locally owned. Mr. Sloane the owner can be found in the store still working well into his 90's and a WWII veteran! Coming from a military family we buy all of my husbands boots and shirts from here wide variety of merch it's the best for all camping, clothes and other needs! Highly recommend!!! read more

Your typical military surplus shop but with a very large offering of clothing and footwear. Definitely stop by and browse. I picked up a couple of patches that I didn't know I desperately needed. (Not really, but...) I did not encounter any rude people here - quite the opposite. One of the store staff handed me my bag and said "Have a nice day and God bless." I'm not particularly religious but his comment touched my heart. We probably have differing views on a handful of topics and yet he respected me and treated me nicely. We need more people like that in the world. read more

I always like going to stores like this, especially seeing how I'm not able to visit any good ones in Minnesota. When you come here, make sure you back into the parking spaces in front. For some reason It's posted that You're supposed to do that, lol. When you first walk in you see a large area of pins and patches for purchase of everything you could think of. It was neat just to look at their wall of displayed items. walking through the store there are many older objects and many new things to choose from and all priced reasonably well. Ended up buying a older style sleeping bag cover that was in really good shape. When we were heading up to the front we came across Don Sloane, the owner. If you ever have a chance and have some time, talk to him. He has many great stories and pictures of himself around. It was fascinating listening to him talk about different things he had done in the war but I don't really want to give away too much. But at least ask about the German flag that's framed in front. That is an awesome story. Thanks for the memories Don! Great store to visit, the staff was nice and it was an altogether great experience. I'm glad I had a chance to stop in while visiting the area. There's a mural on the side of the building, I guess, that I'm going to have to go back to and get a picture in front of before I leave town. read more

Based on the comment that I read from a year ago, I guess the "rude" girl behind the counter still works there. She wasn't necessarily rude, but customer service was lacking. I bought a backpack less than 12 days ago and tried to return it. Granted I can't find the receipt but I still have the price tag that was on the bag and a bank statement proving purchase of the bag, yet the answer I was told, "without the receipt, there's no way to tell I purchased the bag from the store. Needless to say if this is how they treat their new customers, I'm not sure how they retain them. I will not be returning. Photos and tag were shown to the "rude" girl behind the counter. read more

Don Sloane is an amazing man. This store was opened in the 50's after being served in WWII. What an amazing piece of history kept alive. Don is still living his American dream after all these years. read more

Worst service possible. Went up to buy a shovel that was stuck in a shovel case and marked at 5.99 (which was only the price of the shovel case and the shovel was priced separately - I thought the whole thing was $5.99) and cashier scudded me of "shoving it in there" instead of apologizing for the misleading pricing. Went to pay and she went on a tirade as another worker checked me out slinging personal insults and complaining that they had to void the transaction. Will never go back and would advise others to not go unless they want awful service and a mediocre store. read more

Overpriced junk, jungle fatigues, army surplus, all marked up to high end prices. Some of their signs are just plain rude, "If you open this package, we'll throw you out", etc. It's usually empty so if you walk in just to browse, then go out, they suspect you of shoplifting some of the crap in there. Service stinks too. Mailorder nowdays is less hassle, sorry to say. read more

Also if you wanna go all comando you can get that goin' on here as well. There is no shortage of Dickey's I guess 90's gangsta wear. Let's not forget if your a redneck there is a place for you here too. So yes to all of that and more, I have bought camping equipment here to some pretty funky hats. It is a treat to come in a peruse and you might find something you just absolutely cannot live without, and you did not even know before you darkened the doors. read more

miller's is legit. went there 10 years ago to get a sand-colored boonie hat for the sun,..it still is like new. i went in with it on my head today and showed them,...and we all got a laugh. -i like them. big selection of stuff, priced reasonably. i called looking for a retractable baton. the guy knew exactly what i was describing immediately on the phone. he told me he had 'em,...and i went straight in. awesome selection!! dude was helpful, let me try different kinds,..and found the perfect one for me. Nice store with a lot of stuff that I might never shop at again. The girl at the register was incredibly rude! Drop the attitude! No need for that. I as a customer was polite and spent quite a bit of money there. The dirty looks and nasty demeanor from an employee, was in very poor taste. If you don't like your job, quit! I've been in customer service for 25 + years and have never treated someone like that. I was very close to dropping everything in my hands and saying, fuck this place and walking out. If I get treated like that again, I'll definitely take my business somewhere else. read more

They have great Prices on items that you cannot find anywhere else in town. I was asked if I needed help in every area of the store that I visited. The ladies upfront were very helpful and kind as well. I do wish that they had better bathroom facilities. read more

This is a fantastic shop for all things surplus!! The shop is literally floor to ceiling with product! Everything from military surplus uniforms, bags, and misc. equipment. One of my favorite things to do is just wander around the store looking at all the variety. Although the store stocks many knick knacks and novelty items, it also serves a purpose as a great resource for camping gear, work clothing, boots, and many outdoor brands you sometimes only find online. Although the prices are not exactly competitive with online retailers, when you factor in shipping you can almost always come out even or a bit below the online option. Even if you do not plan to buy anything from Millier's Surplus I would highly suggest just taking a look around. There is a lot of product and it really makes for good window shopping. read more

I was in this store twice in the past 2 weeks. They have a lot of interesting items not easily found locally. If you can find and purchase what you want with minimal interaction with the employees you will love this store. The two women at the front counter should spend some time at Summit Hut to see how customer service is done. The guy with the pony tail could stand an attitude adjustment as well. I never had this problem at their Craycroft store and that location is now closed. I buy local when I can but the 40 minute drive down there is no longer an outing to look forward to. I notice the low ratings here are almost all due to bad customer service. Owner/manager - please pay attention to what is happening in your store. read more

I like to poke around in Millers because it's just plain fun to look at all the stuff they have. They have a great selection of work wear, fatigues, gangsta Dickies, boots, knives, patches, backpacks, military T's, and camping stuff. It reminds me of that song from Team America: America, F*&K YEAH! Coming to save the motherf*&kin day, yeah. The East side location is cool too, but much smaller and less of a selection. read more

An outdoorsy dream come true! Great selection of camping and hiking gear along with the expected military stuff. Picked up everything needed for a week of hiking - first aid kit, survival kit, CamelBak pack for me and a great military-style pack setup to use a water bladder for the hubby. Remember that Robert Duvall movie "Falling Down" when the character who is flipping out walks into a militant crazy gun store? Millers always reminds me of that place. Except, it's not nutty... at least from what I can tell. This is a M*A*S*H headquarters, so if you're really into that kind of stuff, it's cool! You too can be Hawkeye Pierce (in outfit only... you will need the surgical stuff, and knowledge to do it, elsewhere!). I picked up a cool bio-chemical suit here once for about $20. And I got a gas mask there. Lots of fun stuff! Miller's has a very nice selection of everything from outdoor working clothes, camping gear and military stuff. I love coming in here and browsing. The store is huge. The military stuff is especially fun to look at, they have army-hats and containers and so many fun things to browse. Lots of camping equipment and worker clothes, Dickies etc. The staff is not pushy and helpful. A lot of biker types come in here for their needs. I've bought pants here, cooking supplies and outdoor food, and even a gas mask for a Halloween prop. And good amount of sunglasses. Back-in park if you come off the street. Prices are pretty nice for the materials but not always cheap by any means. read more

Duffel bags. That's why I shop here. Seriously, they have every size of duffel bag imaginable. I'm a freak when it comes to organization, and there are some items I don't like to store in plastic tubs. So when it comes time to stowaway items made out of wool or cashmere, I use duffel bags and small cedar planks to keep things organized, fresh, and moth free. For $20, you can purchase a duffel bag large enough to fit a grown man (or a few large wool blankets, as the case may be), and they are plenty sturdy. I have several on hand that I use for other things too, like organizing kids toys, exercise equipment, pet supplies... But, enough about duffel bags. They carry tons of other things too, like workboots, camping gear, travel items, tools, gear for cold weather. The deals you find here will vary, but generally they are priced cheaper or competitively with other outdoor or sporting goods stores. You're bound to find something useful here. Definitely worth a visit. And... Right around the corner from 4th Avenue, so easy to work into your other shopping or dining activities! read more

Miller's has what I need to live. Cheap ammo boxes, cheap warm clothes, BDU's, backpacks, wool blankets, ect. Pretty standard surplus store with the addition of some non military camping gear. They will quickly hem all clothing purchased at the store for free on request. And while I look like a flag burning liberal, the staff has always been friendly and helpful! One of the places I'd miss if I moved to a smaller town. read more

Really neat place. Didn't interact with staff much, aside from cashier. Cashier was nice though. If you are getting ready to go camping, are preparing for a zombie apocalypse, or are military/security/law enforcement; then this place deserves a look. OK, so Miller's is a mixed bag. Some stuff is priced reasonably, fairly, or I guess competitively. While other stuff is just not a good deal. You can really notice this in their knife section, where you have the typical junk knives (i.e., BUDK stuff that is marked up in price) that appeal to the novice (think huge bowie knives, zombie knives, etc...) along side real working knives (Buck, Gerber, Swiss Army, etc...). If you need help selecting a knife, you're basically SOL, it's not that kind of store. I honestly only go into Miller's if I know what I'm looking for & want to check their price point on a particular item before buying online. I mean it's not that hard to find the stuff they carry if you know where to look. I definitely got burned, or ripped off, in terms of their pricing early on. Before I figured out their business model (buy cheap, sell high, & no return policy). I only buy things I know I really need/want & that I know is quality gear. Recently I mainly purchase little things for paracord projects or DIY belts for fishing or hunting. Don't expect great customer service, they'll assume your a thief if your just browsing (i.e. touching all kinds of stuff), and their return policy basically doesn't exist. You can't return stuff, don't think they'll make an exception, they wont. read more

Had exactly what I wanted - but didn't like that they display/sell replica Nazi knife. I purchased a EDC belt pouch by Condor and a mini-flashlight for prices almost identical to Ebay. At minimum 3 people either greeted me and/or asked if I needed help in the 30min I was in the store - very good! I would've given 5 stars but the Nazi knife bugged me. read more

Loads of gear with wide price ranges, decent selection of knives, some actual military surplus, friendly staff. All in all, as noted in some reviews below, good shop for camping/hiking needs, but also if you are after some simple utilitarian clothes/boots. Also, some really nice cast iron cookware. read more
