Well exceeded expectations for an amusement park restaurant. I even worked up the courage to order a shrimp bisque--it was good! Everything you'd hope to find in a kid-friendly lunch place and then some. Service was pretty good, too. And the prices are beyond bargain for 2025. It's also kind of the only game in town for a sit down meal since so many people barbecue or bag their own lunch. No booze but this is a rural PA amusement park, what do you expect? read more

June 15, 2024 As many times as I've been to knoebels- I've never enjoyed the Alamo restaurant. In the past with young children- they don't want to sit in a restaurant when they could be riding rides. We decided to on our most recent excursion. It's comfortable and air conditioned. Drawback was a fly in the restaurant- it was only one- but anymore than that would gross me out. The menu offered everything from appetizers- to entrees to sandwiches- my husband enjoyed the fettuccini and I ordered the Mac and Cheese. The portions were sizeable. Our meals came with soup (or salad if I remember?!) we both opted for French onion. I was a little disappointed in the French onion soup at first as it was not served with melted cheese on top from the broiler- it was served with not melted shredded cheese. The soup was delicious!! Better than I had expected and not salty- they also serve it with bread cubes. There was a bread basket served with packaged run of the mill rolls. My Mac and cheese was delicious and husband enjoyed the Alfredo. I would definitely go back to try the chicken and waffle sandwich- sounded so unique. Knoebels is notorious for good food and I was pleased with The Alamo. Kaylie gave great service and was sweet, friendly and attentive! When I think about the quality and experience of dining anywhere, I think it's fairest to compare to other places in the same environment. I would not compare, say, Olive Garden with La Nonna - both Italian fare, serving different customer expectations. When I think about the Alamo Restaurant at Knoebels Amusement Park, I compare it to Amusement Park food. Amusement Parks aren't known to be cultivators of culinary excellence, they're fast, generally not healthy, and generally overpriced - the $7 hot dog. Comparing The Alamo to this standard, I have to say that The Alamo comes out solidly on top. This is the only full service, indoor, air conditioned dining option in the park. They have booths and tables, and they offer wait service. Dear friend K and I decided to check it out as the teens were off amusing themselves and we hadn't been there before. We found the space clean, spacious, well lit and comfortable. We were seated in a booth quickly. K ordered the tuna salad sandwich with a fruit cup. I had the BLT with French fries. Both sandwiches were excellent. My BLT has a generous portion of bacon, fresh lettuce and tomatoes, and just the right amount of mayonnaise. Mmmm. The tuna salad likewise was not over mayonnaise-y, she thought it was delicious. The fruit cup and fries were both fine, nothing exciting. Typical food service fries. Service was decently good and friendly. Now the other exceptional item: The price! $10.49 for sandwich, drink and side (sandwiches come with potato chips, fries or fruit cup are an up-charge). Old fashioned family restaurant. This place has been around a long time and I doubt they ever changed or updated the menu. In some cases that is a good thing, but that is not the case here.I found the menu to be extremely boring The food we did order was okay, however, we got our whole meal served at once (soup, salad, potato, and entree). It was my first time going and definitely my last. I had four people in my group. Food was average but that's not the worst part. There were flies everywhere as we were eating. Flies when we got seated, then when the food came, it was flying around. And also in the bathroom. That's not the worst part. I got the spaghetti and meatball entree. When I got the bill, it stated no salad but I was never offer salad for the meal. I went back to look at the menu and realized my entree came with a roll with butter and a choice of soup or salad but I never got either one. Then one of us had order water as a drink but on my bill, it was charged for hot tea. I asked the waitress how come there was hot tea on my bill and she said that was for the water. I then asked isn't water free and she said no. She said it's the same price as the hot tea. She said she can fix it on the receipt but it's the same price. I said forget it and paid. I can't believe this restaurant charge for water. It was probably tap water and they charge $3.50...that's the same price as their soft drink. And water was not listed on the menu. This is the first time I was charged for water!! Every restaurant that I have ever gone to offer water for free unless it's on the menu that is bottle water. I can't believe they charge for a glass of water!!! And even if they did, they should have put water down on my bill but instead they charge me for hot tea. I feel so rip off. read more

The main reason I went to Knoebels was to do a food review of the 'Alamo' which is their only sit-down restaurant in the park. The Alamo is famous for their Chicken and Waffles so that's what I got for $15. Well long story short it was pretty bland. The gravy helped out a little, but it could not save this dish. However to be fair, I believe that the taste was meant to please the locals which is probably more than 90% Caucasian. I think they should have an option to get fried chicken instead of the boiled chicken for us city folk lol. The onion rings were good, and my mom's fish sandwich was decent. Our waitress was very good, so kudos to her. In the future I will just eat at one of the many counter service restaurants they have instead of the Alamo. read more

A long standing tradition for decades, my family and I would eat inside the Alamo every year...even if we only made it to the park once in that season. My great uncle Eli, now deceased, would join us recalling fondly of his days washing dishes for the Alamo. He lived 45 minutes away from that job and didn't always have a car to get there, but someone at work would always give him a ride. That's how kind the employees are and continue to be. I always appreciated seeing the hostesses and the waitstaff dressed so nicely. The menu doesn't change at all. Typical diner fare of the 90's. I believe the only vegetarian option is eggplant parmesan. No vegan option. The hits are the Alamo burger, eggplant parm and believe it or not, the steak. And even when you order a steak, the prices are nice. read more

An air conditioned respite inside the park, The Alamo gives you and your family a chance to cool down and refuel for more fun at the grove. Try the hot turkey or roast beef sandwiches, they hit the spot. The ice tea appears to be freshly brewed and they have a great kids menu. read more

I made the mistake of checking out the reviews while already seated and sipping on an iced tea. The Reviews are pretty much spot on. The food here is pretty terrible... You know something is wrong when even the potato chips taste bad. I enjoyed the fact that it's really quiet inside and also air conditioned, by looks and ambiance alone, You'd expect diner quality food... Wrong. I think the main problem is the quality of food they serve. Seems to me like they just said F it and went with the lowest Grade products they could scrounge up. I could go on about each meal specifically (chicken fingers,turkey club etc) but quite frankly I think I've complained enough. I'll grab a slice of Pizza or hotdog at a vendor next time. read more

Oof. I'd rather NOT remember The Alamo. My family and I were visiting Knoebels all day and decided to have a sit down dinner. Alamo Restaurant had a full menu and good prices so we figured we'd give it a shot. I ordered the vegetable lasagna, and it was seriously like something out of "Restaurant Impossible." First off, the top was coated with chunky bread crumbs (uhh, k...) I take a bite and realize the pasta is mushy towards the middle, rock hard on the edges. The "cheese" was more of a sauce. It was gluey, white and viscous, and it had the consistency of...oh god, just use your imagination. The "vegetables" were tiny scraps of spinach and carrot. Not to mention no marinara sauce in sight. Absolutely disgusting. The service was decent, but that's not enough to make up a star for the hands-down worst restaurant meal I've ever had. Our friends who invited us to Knoebels kept talking about the awards the park has won for having the Best Amusement Park Food." I noticed there was a varied selection around the park, but after walking around I was hoping to eat in the air-conditioned sit-down restaurant Alamo. Since it was a sit-down place I was hoping they might serve daddy drinks there, but no such luck. It's an amusement park, that's okay. There were a lot of standard items on the menu, but I was drawn to the Weck sandwich as I am from a part of the country where it is not normally served and had never tried one before. (If I had not previously explored the origin of Buffalo Wild Wings I would never have even heard of it.) You have your choice of meat, so I ordered mine with beef. Several large slices of sliced beef came served on a large buttered white roll. I am never ordering a Weck again in my life. The beef was intensely dry, how anyone can eat it without a sauce of any sort is beyond me (I did turn down a choice of cheese, maybe that was a mistake.) What was worse is that the butter was absolutely slathered all over the outside of the bun, making it greasy and disgusting to hold onto to eat. I would give this place one star, but the others in my party did not have any complaints about their bland and boring food. read more

They get 2 stars only for the French onion soup, which was pretty decent, despite not being homemade, and our waitress was great. The rest of the meal, not so much. I had the turkey platter, which came with mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing and I got apple sauce, French onion soup, and a salad. Except for the first piece of turkey on top, the stuff underneath was grey. Like, dishwater grey chunks- suffice to say that I didn't eat it, and only had a few bites of the piece on top. The mashed potatoes were obviously powdered, but I grew up with that. The best part of the actual meal was the stuffing- it was pretty good. My fiancée had the chicken and waffles, a French onion soup and a salad. Oh boy. The waffles looked like cardboard. They, inexplicably, came with gravy. The chicken was like, boiled crap. As a former culinary student myself, you FRY the chicken!!! He said the fries were meh. But, neither of us could get over the chicken. I don't know what recipe book they're following, but to serve boiled crap chicken and pass it off as chicken and waffles is a fail. The meal was NOT worth the $37 plus tip. We did tip the waitress well, because she was nice and attentive. A couple of days later, I had massive tummy troubles. Regardless of the reason why asked for our check so we can leave after waiting 20 minutes short story the waitress was a real snot to us and when I asked to see the manager... I just finished my meal and it was so awful, it prompted me to write my first yelp review. My meal was the chicken and waffle platter. The what seemed to be processed white chicken, was dry even after dumping 2 gravy bowls of bland gravy on it. The skinny tasteless waffle was hard and only softened with 2 bowls of gravy. The finishing touch to the meal were soggy greasy French fries. All I can say is my server was nice. This place is not worth the wait or price. Their are many better options at this amusement park. Went on a weekday for lunch, so there was no wait at all. I've seen very long lines especially at dinner time. My favorite thing on the menu has to be the french onion soup, which comes with gobs of cheese and croutons. For lunch I got the cheese steak and fries, and it was very tasty. There was a sweet tasting tomato sauce for the cheese steak that was on the side; we thought it was ketchup at first but then realized it goes on the sandwich. The cheese steak isn't going to impress you if you're driving up from Philadelphia, but it was good. It seemed like there was a pretty nice kids menu if you need to order for kids. Delicious food and quite a variety. Family friendly indeed, this stop is a wonderfully placed establishment smack in the middle of America's best family oriented theme park. This place is awful. The Alamo is a cheap frozen food fest. The mashed potatoes were all powder. They didn't have time to blend them with water. The salads , soup and mains we're all served together. I realize that the park as a whole is not a great spot for food but this travesty is so bad you really would be better off with the just as bad pizza and hot dogs. Best bet for food is to pack a cooler and enjoy the picnic tables & BBQ. The service was lacking in a big way. No visit to Knoebels Amusement Park (open seasonably and where the restaurant is located) is complete without a meal at the Alamo! This large, full service family restaurant is a welcome oasis within the amusement park (free admission to the park, and free parking, so don't hesitate to go just to eat!). Two favorite items from the giant and affordable menu are the beef on Weck and chicken & waffles. The beef on Weck is on a real and salted pretzel bun -- not an authentic Kimmelweck bun, but is still good! Add Swiss cheese and honey mustard and it's ready to be devoured. At the other meal, I had the chicken & waffles -- delicious moist chicken off the bone, served with mashed potatoes, a quartered waffle and gravy -- combine them all together and it's heaven. Their coleslaw is good too! Tabs will only run you $10-$15 per person. The atmosphere is very casual. The servers are very friendly and helpful -- and there's plenty of staff there to keep tables clean and turn them around quick when things get busy. As the only restaurant in the park with air conditioning, we have come to find the Alamo as a regular stop during our stay. There is nothing to write home about, food is usual, portions vary depending I. What you get. Chef salad was more of a side salad in a soup bowl with still partially frozen processed chicken. The Italian dishes are recommended, they make their own sauce which is very good, and the chicken & waffles are probably the best thing we have ever gotten. I don't recommended the fried chicken, as my husbands was so dry it looked like jerky. It is on the pricey side, and there is more variety if you can beat the heat at the different kiosks in the park. read more

"Family style" restaurant in the park. My wife and I have been taking our kids to the Alamo for the past 16 years during our end of summer camping trip at Knoebels. While family prices and simple fare have kept us coming back to the Alamo, I do have to confirm their Southern Fried is the worst over-cooked, dried out imitation of fried chicken I've ever had. If we judged this restaurant solely on the fried chicken we'd never come back. Stay with burgers and the like and you'll be fine. We also love the hot bacon dressing on their dinner salad. read more

Five star service and meal! Mom and I had the Stuffed Flounder with crabmeat, Dad had the Fettuccine Alfredo. Everything tasted fresh made. First off, we love Knoebels and we have been visiting the park for more than a decade with our kids. We usually pick and eat at the various stands in the park because we like the variety of different items. Today we decided to try a sit-down meal at the Alamo diner on the property. The place itself was ok, with a vintage late 70's early 80's appeal. The food....well it was just bad. I tried the Chicken and waffles which many on here rave about, and all I can say is bland, bland, bland. No flavor what so ever. The chicken was dry, the waffles where cold and seemed like they came out of an ego box. The gravy has to be from a can. It was not worth the $15 they charged for it, even in a park. We also tried the pasta Alfredo, again bland. My daughter said it taste like a cheap frozen dinner. Both her and another friend set it back. Stick to the stands, the foods is fast but much better than the Alamo diner. read more
