Fries; tasty but a little too soft
Jennifer H.

My boyfriend, friend, and I were looking for a late night spot. This place was surprisingly good! They had a buy 1 get one free offer on UberEats for $14.99 on the combo gyro. Let me tell you; it was delicious! The gyro was well seasoned and hearty. We also got fries. To be honest, they were only ok but still hit the spot. I tend to prefer more crispy fries, and these were more limp.

Gyro bowl

Very good food served here! I quite enjoy Mediterranean food, and this place definitely fixed my craving. The prices are extremely reasonable, especially for DC, and this place is open super late (4 am). I tried the gyro bowl with lettuce, red onions, white sauce, and rice. It was delicious! The gyro meat was perfectly cooked, and the pieces were all cut up and tender. The sauce was perfect,y creamy and complimented the meat well. They had a ton of rice in this portion, but it was pretty tasty rice, so I didn't mind. The lettuce and vegetables were fresh. All in all, I would definitely recommend this spot. It's also got pizzas and other Mediterranean options, so there's pretty much something for everyone. Try it out!

Jumbo slice, folded to fit into the personal sized pizza box
Jordan N.

This is really the place to get jumbo pizza slices in this part of DC (Adam's Morgan / West U St / North DuPont's 18th street corridor). I get some people love the gyros here. At 1:30 am they're busy putting them out, and surprisingly even more so than the jumbo slices. From what I've seen at the 1:30 am Saturday rush (really!) the gyro is made with diced-up meat and kept in a warmed pan, the gyro wrap is the prepackaged store variety, and toppings did not go much beyond simply a sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions. There were no spit to shave the gyros from. It may make great late nights junk food for a drunkard, but I highly would recommend people to steer themselves towards the jumbo pizza slices. The slices are freshly baked to order, or should I say half-baked, which is still delicious and makes it easily foldable. It is unlike any New York slices because it is a floppy rather than a crispy slice, but I'm not complaining (I'm also in the camp that loves half-baked cookies so you can maybe understand some of that appeal). The char on the bottom is decent and noticeable, and the gooey cheese melted with enough blister - and yes, you'll need the napkin for dabbing the grease off of the surplus that comes from so much cheese (and from the perfectly curled-up pepperoni if you get that). Made well, it's worth the eat. The value is reasonable - $5.99 for a jumbo cheese slice, $6.99 for a pepperoni jumbo slice. You can also customize them any way you like for an additional charge. For those not wanting pizza, maybe try the kabobs. I didn't see anyone order them this late at night but based on the reviews, it's something I would consider for the next time. And they're not something that seems to have been pre-made and kept warm ahead of time like the diced gyro meat. I can see myself coming back whenever I want that quintessential late night pizza slice.

Spicy Boneless Chicken Kabob

This place has really blessed me and fed me with good Mediterranean food. And I wish this was not the category that it's placed in because it has such a unique and authentic take to it that newer, gentrified, Mediterranean restaurants are trying to replicate but can't. Here, the flavors are bold, they're not afraid of fat, and your plate comes heafty, and you can order pretty late. I love the addition of of a chickpea curry as a standard side, I wish more places adopted this because it adds to the flavors going on in your plate. Its comforting, its warm, its cooked down like a daal but it operates like a condiment to wet the rice or flatbread. Rice is a perfect foundation to hold all the toppings, its warm, tumeric yellow, has cumin, and slightly salted so it stands as its own component. The chicken is beautifully charred, comes in big chunks, and well seasoned both in the spice blend they're choosing but also on the exterior, its well coated. Side vegetables give a nice crunch and brightness, love taking a raw onion bite in between. And both of the sauces are good, one for spicy and own for cooling, so well balanced. This was my first order, but I know I will come here for more.

Salmon Kabob
Amada H.

I ordered the salmon kabob plate and some fries for delivery. The food was pretty good, the sauces were really flavorful and the salmon was prefect. The rice however was not that flavorful and my fries had no seasoning. Loved the garbanzo beans and pita bread, it was soft and still warm from the delivery. Overall, I'd come back here or order delivery again.

Lamb/Beef Gyro!

So I have to keep this short. It was 3 AM and this was one of the FEW places open on Uber Eats. I highly recommend!!! If you order the DC Slice, it's MASSIVE!!!! HUGE!!!! It's a meal on it's own. I also ordered the Gyro and was so mad I didn't eat that 1st. My hotel didn't have a microwave so I had to eat it cold the next day. I could tell if it was hot it was going to be delicious!!! I ordered a can soda to go, and didn't see where I could choose on the App. Being from Atlanta I was annoyed when I saw Pepsi, but it wasn't the end of the world! :)

I support late night food places. Evening shift people need places to eat out too. Aladdin's is late night, but. Not the latest. And always has a lost Adams Morgan crowd. With jumbo slice all around, Aladdin's offers their own take on the jumbo (smaller and less seasoned) and creative pizzas available only as full pies. I haven't tried them yet. Fries are good here. Felafel is bland and without tehina and is served on a pita, not in it. Would tell people to count their change here.

Cheese pizza
Nikki M.

It was a late Night carry out. Place was clean. Everyone very nice. Pizza not cheesy enough. Kind of like New York thin crust pizza. But. It was great. Next time will just ask for extra cheese. Kabob salad great. Chicken a little dry. But with dressing and vegetables. It was a great late night meal. Wick preparation. And easy take out process

I was here in a trip and was super hungry at 12am! Luckily this spot was a 5 min walk from my hotel! THIS IS THE BEST GYRO PLATE I HAVE EVER HAD! I am from the Bay Area and it's better than every place I had tried! I don't know why but it was just so good and so different!! THIS PLACE IS A MUST GO! CERTIFIED BUSSIN!!!

They still had the beautiful glass encased booths on the other side, which I learned had a bar menu that offers sandwiches and other selections. I would have much rather sat on that side-The Blue Duck Lounge, but instead we were sat in the main area where there is a fixed menu, and because it was so much food we ended up sharing an entree. The duck roasted to perfection; the greens had too much apple cider vinegar in them for me to enjoy. The cheesy grits were pretty good, although I personally would have preferred a really good mac with a hoity toity locally sourced-cheese. Strawberry martini was good, fruit forward and solid on the vodka. I look forward to coming back and sitting on the lounge side with the small plates, so that I can try a variety of things. Overall Blue Duck is still thriving and a very delightful place to dine!

The egg rolls are crispy but not too oily - and they're delicious on top of that! I also had some beef and broccoli and it was super good too. The flavor was savory, strong and pure. The broccoli was crispy, the beef was moist. No thickening flavor like flour or corn starch was evident in its tasty sauce. It wasn't even too salty. Go figure! So, it's surprising that a place that looks so old and dirty can churn out such great tasting food BUT NEW DYNASTY DOES!!! The only miss for me personally was the ribeye gyro but that's less about Ala and more about me finally confirming that gyros and I are just not meant to be. The food gets a solid 5 stars. The seating situation however deserves a conversation. Yelpers were directed to either the bar or outside with no other options offered. The weather cooperated and it wasn't a bad experience outdoors but when the hostess specifically stated that Yelpers sit at the bar or outside, that landed differently. The restaurant appeared beautiful from what I could see and assuming the inside was as lovely as it looked, that felt like a quiet form of segregation that the restaurant should probably revisit. Every bite of food from this restaurant is bursting with flavor and clearly made with so much intentionality and love. My personal most favorite is perhaps the underrated appetizer menu item- shore nakhot. The flavoring of the vinegar and spice blend on the potato and chickpea is indescribable and pairs perfectly with the naan bread there, which is so fresh, hearty and satisfying. Be sure to dip in for maximal flavor. I haven't tried any meal or appetizer here I didn't love. The pumpkin dish, buranee kadoo, is a brilliant savory twist that brings pumpkin to life. Qaboli palow has the most plump, tender and moist raisins you'll have seen in your life teaming with carrots to bring immense flavor to the rice. The meat in this dish is actually the more subtle part. The dumplings of all sorts are delicious- the leek ones are actually a surprise favorite. As far as dessert, we tried some rose water ice cream. Floral desserts are not my preference, but my friend was in heaven with this one. It was everything she hoped for. The only thing we got we weren't wild about was our second dessert- the firnee. The texture was more like polenta, which was unexpected. The flavor was nice, though. This is the number one restaurant that lives on and on in my dreams and memories of DC when all others fade. I try and come every time I'm in town. The restaurant is small and charming. It gets loud during meal times, so eating outside can be a nice option to reduce volume if you're sensitive. This is a must visit in my opinion! I went there with my friend for a Sunday dinner. At ~7:30pm the restaurant was almost fully seated. We tried the following dishes: 1. Bolani: You can choose two fillings among four. Came with 2pc per filling. We tried leeks and pumpkin fillings. The pumpkin was mashed and mixed with some green onions. Served with cilantro sauce and yogurt sauce. 2. Shrimp Dumplings: 4 or 6 (depends on your choice) small "Shumai shaped" dumplings stuffed with diced shrimp and herbs, and topped with saffron cream sauce and chili powder. There was only little filling for the dumplings, and I could barely taste the flavor of saffron in the sauce. 3. Lamb Tikka: My friend ordered it as his entree. Came with 8 bite-size pc of lean-cut lamb meat, spicy-sweet chili sauce and some torshi. While the lamb was tender, the serving size was much smaller than what we expected. 4. Palow: My friend sub the white rice for Palow. The side dish Palow was only seasoned with salt, pepper and cinnamon, and did not have raisins or carrots like their entree Qabuli Palow. Moreover, it was quite salty. Not recommended. 5. Morgh Qorma: Chicken stewed in a tomato-onion based sauce with split peas. The chicken was fork-tender and the sauce was rich in flavor. The split peas added some texture to the meat and thickened the sauce. However, I could not find the pitted plums. I asked my server and was told that they were "mixed in the sauce", but I really could not taste it. Since I ordered this dish mainly to see how plums could go with chicken this made my disappointed. Overall the food was good but definitely not amazing. Also note that they charge $5 for naan. Service was disappointing considering they charge 20% mandatory service charge. We were seated at a narrow corner of the basement of the restaurant even if there were several (2-seat) tables available on the first floor. Moreover, our server never asked us about the food throughout the meal.
