For a lunch at this price, the food was not that good. The chicken is very dry and tasteless. The salad was okay. Every dish was excuted to the highest of quality, and the command of service is certainly no less. (Bluefin Tartare: A) - Fresh and light Asian-forward profile on a tuna tartare, with a stunning tapioca chip and a refreshing blend of cucumber and other accompaniments with the tuna. (Octopus: A) - The flavor of this dish is perfectly balanced with a seafood saline coming from the octopus, complemented by the sweetness of the peppers and the acidity of the olives. The octopus is impressively tender and could not be cooked nor seasoned better. The potato component was omitted due to dairy, but the dish is already perfect to me. (Squid Ink Spaghetti: A) - Perfectly cooked pasta being just on the verge of al dente, but still soft enough. The sauce is well made, not being runny and just coated enough to give the pasta and seafood flavor without overpowering. The breacrumbs add a different saline and textural component to the dish pleasantly, which builds on the lovely sweet and spicy tomato sauce. You have to go through what looks like a closed factory and then enter the restaurant. We had a variety of food and everyone loved their meals. I started with the Mixed local greens salad with pear, sunflower, beets, and sheep cheese. Loved all the toppings on it, flavorful dressing. For my entree, I had the Paccheri pasta with braised lamb ragout, stracciatella, pine nuts, and pecorino. Also very good. Not a huge portion but you don't want that when you eat pasta. And I still could not finish it all. Desserts were shared. Loved the chocolate dessert. So yummy. Overall a really nice meal.

Now tbf I did mention mild to medium so maybe that's why!? Other things on the plate was baingan (ok-ish), naan (the best on the plate) paneer( one of the good things on the plate) and raw malai (again watery) with samosa (which I felt was refried so many times that it turned super crisp and dark) Service - average - nothing extraordinary! Ambience - def a plus one for this!

There's outdoor seating available in the summer, which added a nice vibe. One thing I really appreciated was their combo option that lets you sample a little bit of everything. That's always a win for me! The food overall was decent--not bad at all, but nothing that totally wowed me either. The service was friendly for the most part, though a little slow. One server was super responsive, but another didn't seem too sure about the menu. I asked what "soya chaap" was (listed under Unique Finds), and she just said "soya chaap" back to me... which didn't really clear anything up. Not rude, just kind of unhelpful. One thing to flag: the menu online doesn't match what they actually have in person, so don't get your heart set on a specific dish before going. I had a plan in mind, but it wasn't available when I got there. All in all, Café Rutba is worth checking out if you are close to the area and interested in Indian food.

SCORE!! Jellyfish had incredibly flavorful food and service top notch!! We started with the tuna crudo which was UH-May-Zing! The combination of textures and flavors was superb and the tuna wonderfully fresh! Chilmole tempura was MAGNIFIQUE!!! Honestly, I'd come here and just get 2 servings for my entire meal and be happy, haha. We also split the fried polenta. That was heartier than expected for polenta - almost like fried mashed potatoes - but still very delicious with the meat stock as a flavorful "thick" broth. I had the hanger steak with French fries (felt kinda steak frite-ish tonight) and my friend had the rotelle with bone marrow. The hanger steak was cooked to perfection and fries just the right crispness for my liking. My friends rotelle was just OK (hence the 4 stars) and the big bone with fatty marrow scooped out at the table was just - unexpected and weird. Just wasn't appetizing after that Perhaps it's more of the norm with French Quebec culture and cuisine and our American expectations jaded the experience. But hey! We tried it Overall, I'd definitely recommend this restaurant to tourists and if I were staying longer, I'd definitely come back.

Apparently Mom and Dad have been coming to Le Cartet for years. Without me. I'm trying not to dwell…read moreon that. They actually discovered one of their favorite local artists, James Kennedy, through the incredible metal cut-out artwork inside the restaurant. So Le Cartet has always been one of those special Montreal places they like returning to. This visit, however, included an important upgrade: Me. Since I was in attendance, we sat outside on their good-sized street patio, surrounded by big flower boxes. It's a great spot to watch the neighborhood go by while having brunch. Unfortunately, the flowers also appear to have excellent Yelp reviews among the local bee population. The bees were VERY enthusiastic. Mom ordered the pulled-pork Benedict, which came with two poached eggs piled over a generous amount of pulled pork, along with roasted potatoes and a little bowl of fresh fruit. She also ordered a latte with very pretty latte art. Dad's breakfast arrived in an entire cast-iron skillet containing scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon, beans, roasted potatoes and toast. I would like the record to show that there were multiple forms of meat within inches of me. For my own safety -- from the bees, allegedly -- I remained tucked inside my carrier for most of brunch. Was this protection? Or was this an elaborate strategy to keep me away from Dad's bacon and sausages? The investigation remains open. The food looked fantastic, the patio was lovely, and Mom and Dad were very happy to be back at one of their longtime Montreal favorites. As for me, I enjoyed the people watching, avoided an international incident with the bees, and added another Montreal brunch establishment to my professional portfolio. Dogba's verdict: 3 paws out of 5. Flower-lined street patio: lovely People watching: excellent Dad's skillet: borderline excessive Number of meats within sniffing distance: concerning Mom's pulled-pork Benedict: big success Mom's latte art: very fancy Bee attendance: enthusiastic Carrier accommodations: secure Dogba's brunch supervision: impeccable Would I return? Absolutely. Mom and Dad already have years of evidence supporting this decision. I would simply request that next time we visit, the bees make other brunch plans -- and Dad's bacon-sharing policy undergo a formal review.
