Wow... Just wow. We had arrived at our hotel late in the evening and just wanted a quick dinner before going to bed. Yelp came through, as Pizzeria al Calesse was just a short walk away and open late. When you first come in, there may be a crowd... just make your way inside to ask for a table, as most of the people waiting are ordering take-away. The food was amazing, and the prices can't be beat! Pasta dishes and pizzas (approx. 12") were in the 8-10 euro range. In short, the food was so good (some of the best Italian we've ever had) that we chose to finish exploring Venice and come back here to eat a 2nd night. Over two days, we had - a various cold-cut misto appetizer plate - tagliatelle with duck sauce and porcini mushrooms (twice!) - spaghetti alla carbonara - a pizza Gambera (roasted eggplant, mushrooms, red/yellow bell peppers, artichoke) with "spicy salami" added (it was pepperoni, as we call it). Great atmosphere with locals filling the place, and friendly service with menus available with English subtitles. While the food in Venice itself is good, this restaurant still has those others beat, and at half the price! read more

This was a nice place with great pizza. The staff is wonderful and very friendly. We had two pizzas and four drinks and walked away with only paying €23. Great spot in Marghera. This place is great for pizza, they also have pasta which was pretty good as well. I usually don't like pizza that much, but in this place I just couldn't help myself to have another slice. We came here nearly every evening while our 5-day stay in Venice. Al Calesse was about a 10-15minutes walk away from our Hotel "Mercure Marghera" which is next to the Holiday Inn. However, I ate the best Pizza of my life at this place: Mozarella, Rucola and a lot of tasty Walnuts with the special "wheat"-dough (whole grain) which is highly recommended to anyone! What an unusual wonderful delight this Pizza was! Unbelievable nice and helpful service as well (no language barrier since fully english translated menu and one waitress was even a venician english-student! Everybody was highly likeable at this place, doesn't matter who it was! I already miss the great atmosphere! Next time in Venice this restaurant will surely be on my ToDo-List! read more

Our favorite place in Italy. Stayed for 7 nights in Marghera, Italy while visiting Venice Northern Italy etc. this was our go to spot. Luckily we were only 2 blocks away from this fabulous, friendly pizzeria. The owners got to know us after a few days eating there and would usually bring out something new for us to try for free. GREAT PRICES too. Italy in general is expensive, and this was the best bang for our buck we got from Venizia to Napoli. Our Fave ,..Always. I miss this place. Seriously, if you are in Venice or Marghera, make a point to stop by and try it. This place is jam packed at night with Italian families and its a really fun atmosphere.
