I attended Gratitude Lodge for 30 days at the Long Beach house…read more Elise was a great house manager and made me feel very welcome. The house was also decorated nice for the holidays. The rest of the staff were great. Since most were in recovery, they understood what we were going through and were always available to help. Staff is available 24/7. The houses I stayed at were nice and clean and full of food (you could even request food you liked and they'd get it from the store for you). They have a tele dr and psychiatrist on call. The first week you are on detox so can't leave the house for AA/NA meetings or outings but after that you can go to the gym etc. They took us to lunch after a meeting and shopping around the holidays, which was nice. We'd go on walks, they'd have people in to teach yoga, hold sound baths, do art therapy, music therapy with a cat and educational classes about drugs effects. There was a jacuzzi tub in the one room which was nice :) I'd recommend a stay at Gratitude Lodge. But it's important to continue with your sobriety. I had to end up doing 6 months in residential and intensive outpatient due to legal issues and I do see the importance of longer stays (I know not feasible for most who work). I'm currently in recovery bridge housing (sober housing) and enjoying my outpatient program but I really enjoyed my time at Gratitude Lodge. If I would've still had insurance, I would've picked this over the Medi Cal facilities.

This place really wasn't all that bad. I fought against the grain of the road to recovery. These…read moreplaces are good at getting you to lie to yourself and others that you are ready to get clean. I noticed I lied to myself and others that I wanted to get clean even though I truly didn't want to get clean. I wanted to get high every day, every hour, every good second. They smiled at me, patted me on the back, praised me like a saint, and even got me free Starbucks from nice people all because I ACTED like sobriety was MY beautiful goal. I got better, much better now that I am honest with myself as well with people. This place taught me that and MOST OF ALL - BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF!!! Do not question or think differently or challenge anyone true to Alcoholic's Anonymous or Narcotic's Anonymous meetings they require you to attend. It's so insulting to an atheist like me. It's torture!!! Nevermind my beliefs. F 'em! My beliefs are rubbish and frowned upon. I also had a serious sleeping issue. I've been tired all my life since 4th grade and it turns out I have had undiagnosed sleep apnea for a very long time without proper medical equipment to help me get a full night's rest. I was "lazy" to them. Others understood I think... I clearly understand that I met remarkable counselors there. Some I disappointed, some emitting false compassion or even apathy. Fortunately it was the nice handful of counselors that I knew wanted me to make it. Unfortunately I dismissed and took for granted their persistent helping hand. I truly commend and honor Ms. Antonia, Orlando, Trey, Brittany, Patty, and Leah. They are the only reasons why I'm giving 4 stats instead of 2. It is so true what they say - Through failure , even a couple dozen failures plus a willing mind comes success. I fumbled so badly here, left AWOL twice and never came back. I tried to come back but I was not wanted or welcomed. That's fine. I learned from those two experiences nonetheless. On a side note, the guys are so bleeding horny, they can come off as rapey off site, away from the facility. Also, the females clients love frivolous drama and no wonder they go out and relapse almost as pitiful as I did relapse. If they focused more on themselves than others, specifically other females, they could discover themselves and only themselves. Not use useless facts or false allegations as a distraction to not fulfill their need for self improvement and face their flaws. It's hard but doable.

More strict staff upon admission process and during the client stay…read more. drugs are still be available in this place.. Cigarettes should be allowed with a smoking schedule and snacks available. These clients are struggling with addiction and need sweets duh?

I started with Jennifer recently in looks for an EMDR specialized therapist that took my insurance. Her website was very enticing and seemed to be a good fit with how she advertised herself. I began using her services and quickly I found out she was not a good fit. I wanted to give her some time to see if the rapport would build. I am someone who does not have a set schedule and she highly pushed for a weekly appointment. I also work with another therapist who does not take my insurance but absolutely have seen improvement and help with that one, so I was dividing time between the two of them. I am also in the travel industry and do NOT have a set schedule so my schedule changes weekly; some weeks are busier than others. I told her weekly would not work with me, and bi weekly would be best. She canceled the next appointment and I would continue with the following week. The following week ended up I needed to travel and needed to cancel that appointment as well. She makes you sign a cancellation policy which states cancellations you pay out of pocket, which is standard if you are cancelling 24 hours or less. I canceled my appointment 3 days prior with ample time within policy guidelines. I immediately got an email for rescheduling and I stated I would not be able to reschedule due to overloaded schedule. She then proceeded to tell me that since I cancelled I would have to pay out of pocket 140$ since she gave me a "free bee" cancellation already. Again she did not, that is when I told her I was switching to bi weekly because I did not want to continue weekly with her. I truly believe she is in this profession for self gain and not to truly help others. In 15 years I have never had such an absurd canceling process like it is a blood oath to go to a therapist that you reach out to for help. Do yourself a favor, unless you want to be burdened and bound to this therapist. Seek someone who truly wants to help and not find a way to take your money at any means possible. If you are seeking someone's services, you shouldn't be forced to. If you seek a hair stylist and you cancel an appointment within respectable amount of time, do they force you to go and get their services? No. I felt like I was in another forceful trapped relationship with my therapist. It's a NO for me.

It's places like this that function more as a prison for rich parents who don't like their kids'…read morebehavior, then to actually help with sobriety, that are contributing to the current opioid crisis. This place was fine while I was there, paying them. Granted, there were a lot of troubled older teens without a real issue, so it was hard to focus on my sobriety. The fact that it is more like a prison for rich kids says something, but I was still able to find my way. My main issue is what happened after I left. I needed proof that I was staying there and getting treatment for my addiction, which they would not supply. This caused my college to fail me in classes and dropped my GPA to a level I will never recover from. Additionally, they released a newsletter that printed my sobriety date falsely. They said I relapsed on print. This is inexcusable to do to someone early in sobriety. It's hard enough staying sober without your old rehab messing with you. They committed libel, and I probably should have sued. Had my family seen that newsletter, they would not have spoken to me for years. I guess I got lucky that no one read it. I am still sober (over 15 years!) despite their efforts or lack thereof. Needless to say, they did not help with my long-term sobriety. They were detrimental to it. Probably in their best interest for people to relapse, then they can bill you again and take you back. I stayed sober by avoiding this place like the plague once I got out. Lastly, what Cade said in an early review was true about one of their employees sleeping with one of the female residents. Generally, the women who stay there have it a little easier and get away with more. I guess that is why a lot of these 5-star reviews are by woman.
