So far, I'm loving it here. I was supposed to do this for court months ago but went to Fred brown instead as they had free recovery bridge housing. Roots also has recovery bridge housing and intensive outpatient. I'll update when I'm finished with my 6 month outpatient, but so far the drs and groups have been great. I have to do 5 hrs a week for outpatient and drs visits count towards my 5 hours. Wow. Do not ever try to get hold of these people. It's a nightmare. You can't get a living human being on the phone! You get some weird voicemail that sounds like you're talking to a real person, but it's some kind of robot. My son already met with a doctor there and is trying to schedule as discussed, but you can't actually GET a living person on the phone to set anything up. Would recommend this place to anyone. I had to go through a few hoops with my insurance to continue treatment and the staff literally did everything for me and my therapist kept me informed the entire time. The facilitators, case managers, and therapists are all really easy to get comfortable with. If you have an issue and bring it to someone there, your concerns are heard. read more

Let me start by saying that I am the close family member of someone who came to this program and I have a psychology background. This review is for the way I was treated by the most unprofessional, condescending, terrible "mental health professional" I've ever encountered. NAOMI DUFFY. I'm actually trying to figure out how to file a formal complaint with the medical board it was so bad. Like a loved one should, I asked to be included in a therapy session with my and was told it was okay for me to join. The second I walked into her office, she asked me "why are you here", gave me constant dirty looks while asking me condescending, disrespectful questions the entire time and 10 min in asked me "anything else?" until I finally got sick of it and just walked out. Mind you I was there to help and be a part of my loved ones' recovery. I am a kind, sweet human trying to help and this is how I was treated. I left in tears when I was trying to help and connect with my loved one. I can't believe that this MONSTER is 1. a therapist and 2. supposed to be helping anyone. My loved one told me she was condescending the entire time, but they didn't know any better as this was their first interaction with a therapist in their life. after this meeting my loved one never went back because it exposed what a monster she is. I told this story to another mental health professional today who specializes in addiction recovery programs and she told me that my encounter with this monster of a person is the most unprofessional and borderline malpractice story she's ever heard. She told me that including family members in addiction recovery is extremely important and something that should have a heavy focus. Trust me when I tell you - do NOT trust your loved ones to get any kind of meaningful recovery at this place. Not only was she a bitch, she didn't even explain the mechanisms of addiction, recovery, and/or not making major decisions in the first year of recovery. My loved one is still using. What a waste of time, energy, and money. Shame on them. I have never encountered the kind of treatment I received from her, ever. Just being mean and a bitch for no reason. Abuse of power. I've never seen anything like that in my life, not even from a store clerk who hates their job and this woman is supposed to be a MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONAL. She can do so much damage, especially at a RECOVERY center. I can't believe this woman has a job and you PAY her to be treated like that. STAY AWAY from this place!!!! My review is based solely on the interaction when inquiring about help for someone close to me. Before I found Roots Through Recovery, I had researched several facilities in the area and had honestly felt disheartened by mostly awful, discouraging reviews. Upon researching and reading reviews for Roots Through Recovery, it was a breath of fresh air and a glimpse of hope. I called on a weekend and received a call back from Maynard the admissions director the same day. I should mention that Maynard returned my call in the middle of moving; already, this place and their staff felt right. Long story short, unfortunately this place didn't work out due to the lack of benefits and not being able to cover any of the out of pocket costs. Not allowing it to end there, Maynard did direct me to another one of his contacts. He also asked that I keep in touch to update him on our progress and well being. I was touched by that. The support, care, concern and understanding I received from Maynard from day 1 was just unbelievable. Being my 1st time looking into rehab centers, I felt the pressure of making sure I don't drop the ball as I have people counting on me. I had the stress of not knowing what I need to ask, and the anxiety of wondering if the center I chose would actually do more harm than good- this was based off awful reviews I've read, having easy access to drugs on the premises and lack of dedicated, professional, and caring staff. Maynard definitely brought a sense of calm over me; as though he had carried some of that weight for me when speaking to him. There is no doubt he genuinely cares; it was felt. Based on the interactions I've had, I sensed this place would have been perfect. To discover this place wouldn't be in our future, was a bit disappointing. Going to this place is a challenge. Not even court ordered . But they will attach a ball and chain to your leg . Came here for therapy . Looks like to me they love the insurance I have . It's a shame really liked going to try and heal myself . The most important thing to point out is that these people truly CARE about their clients. Roots helped save my life as I was at my lowest ever. I had just lost my 14 yr old son to suicide and I wanted to join him! I spent the next year and a half with them and it changed my life! I not only got sober but I also got to work on my severe PTSD from finding my son and my childhood traumas. My therapist Alison, who no longer works there, was absolutely amazing working with me. We worked through EMDR on my issues and it totally helped with my PTSD! The staff is warm and personable. Also, the programs like music and art therapy, meditation classes and much more are such an addition to learn help work trouble times that may arise. This place is anxiety inducing, the therapists are condescending and being in that type of environment led me to relapse. They claim they're a "dual diagnosis" facility yet I was abusing drugs months into my "treatment" and not one single staff member tried to intervene or put me on a behavioral contract. They set you up to ultimately fail and start back at square one. Don't waste your breathe doing outpatient therapy here it. Roots To Recovery Review is "in my opinion" the best of the recovery places I have went to. 5 out of 5 stars. They helped me through one of the hardest times in my life. When I first came to them I had been struggling with addiction for 4 years and had tried several other programs. One of the first differences that I noticed about Roots is their clean professional environment. Then as I slowly met their staff, I learned that all of them were Genuinely there to help me in a professional way while being friendly and inviting. When I arrived I met Sara. Inviting individual who always has a smile. Maynard made the transition into roots painless and smooth. Lauren has helped my wife and I get back on track. Sam is very professional and has given me tools to work with. Josh has a great attitude and has helped me get my life back on track and is very resourceful. All the facilitators at Roots are knowledgeable and friendly with smaller groups then I was use to making the process seem more individualistic. This was my 8th treatment center, and I wholeheartedly know it was my last. From the love and care of the staff, to the constant fun of Long Beach, there is no reason why recovery here can't be fun, or something to look forward to every day. After a few short months at Roots, and a year of sobriety I've become everything I've ever wanted to be. A good person, with a good heart. Roots has helped me transform into that. Roots is incredibly helpful, whether you are struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, substance abuse, etc...They have an incredible and supportive staff. The staff all range in credentials (LCSW, LMFT, CADC, etc) so you get an array of treatment from so many different perspectives. The groups are very helpful and also very broad, so you can work through whatever it is you're struggling with. I'm grateful for Roots & for their patience, love, and support. I have to be honest I had a very hard time here at roots to recovery. Staff was not willing to help. It was such a wild ride my poor mother ended up in the hospital from chest pain. Thank God it was only a panic attack . I would not recommend to someone I love. Walking into Roots on my first day i never imagined it changing my life. Meeting with Maynard was so easy and he made me feel very comfortable. My 2 favorite people there are definitely Sarah and Josh. Josh has always believed in me when i didn't believe in myself and he made sure i knew i could do it when i felt like i was at my lowest. The most important lesson i took from Josh was to figure out what i enjoy and what brings me joy and pursue that. It's not just about working hard its also about enjoying your life. Sarah always greeted me with a smile and talking with her motivated me to keep going. I went through the worst moments of my life while at Roots and if it wasn't for the sessions i had with Sam and the positivity Sarah and Josh brought to me i would have given up. Sam made me feel like she cared and although i normally felt like I was a failure she reminded that this was part of the process and i can do it if i tried my best. She always accepted me even when i made mistakes. I'm no longer at Roots but i can 100% say it works and if you put your all into it you can be the person you've always dreamed of. I attended roots through recovery back in spring of 2018. When I was doing intake paperwork with Maynard, I asked a question regarding drug testing as I know that this can end up being very costly for the patient. Maynard personally assured me that I would not be charged and nothing would be sent to collections. I graduated the program and received bills in the mail. I contacted Maynard regarding the bills and he assured me that he would take care of it and that he would have the CEO call me to help assist. Neither of these things ever happened, I have tried to contact Maynard and no response. I paid privately to attend this facility and it was very quick and easy for them to run my credit card but when they are on the receiving end, it's a whole different story. This is terrible service and I would beware before attending this facility. There has been no effort on their end to resolve this issue. Very upsetting.... I wish I could give them 0 stars read more
