Finally stopped in to try out Aka Sushi for the first time for a solo lunch. I asked if they offered a Poke dish/Poke salad. They do not. So I ordered the Seaweed salad, two pieces of Nigiri, and an order of Dragon Rolls. And a glass of water. Seafood salad came out - it was fresh, crunchy, and delicious! The portion side was a bit on the small side. Then the Nigiri Salmon and Dragon Rolls came out (with pickled Ginger and imitation Wasabi). Both were tasty! Service was good. The fish was incredibly fresh--every piece practically melted in my mouth. The salmon and tuna were standout favorites, with rich flavor and perfect texture. We came here for dinner on a Thursday night with our two kids (5 and 7). The staff are friendly and the the ppace is nice and clean. Tables are limited and better for groups of 4 or less. Highly recommend making a reservation. My kids ate the tonkatsu and rice...ALL OF IT! They loved it. My husband and I ordered a variety of sushi rolls. My favorite was the Negi Toro Maki Roll and my husband loved the French Kiss Roll. The food was soooo good. The rolls are well portioned and the fish tastes fresh. Holy cow! I've walked past Aka Sushi every time I've gotten a haircut for the past 15 years. I finally noticed their 4.5 stars on Yelp and 4.8 on Google, and figured I owed them a shot. They passed the visual inspection at the sushi prep bar, so I cautiously started with some yellowtail sashimi. It was fresh and delicious. They've got the classic Japanese beers, brewed in Italy and the US, of course, but still felt authentic. I dove into the White Dragon roll, and it was so good I had to try the Sexy Mama roll too, even though I was full. Guilty of judging a book by its cover (next to a dry cleaner), but Aka blew me away. Was in Manassas for a party and craved sushi afterward. We went pretty late- at 8pm, and were the only ones dining in, but lots of take-out orders while we were there. OMG it was so good! I loved the potato shrimp appetizer, and we had strawberry mochi ice cream for desert. We both ordered off the special roll menu. I got the Funky Roll: Crab, Avocado, Cream Cheese, Mozzarella, Deep Fried, White Sauce, Eel Sauce - the eel sauce was especially good. He got the Snow White roll: Avocado, Spicy Crab, Crunch inside & White Tuna with Flames, Spicy Mayo, Eel Sauce on top, which arrived on fire! So fun. We were both really pleased with the blending of flavors and freshness of ingredients. I also had some hot sake. We'll be sure to be back whenever we're in that area. read more

We went to Aka sushi with a group and sadly it wasn't my favorite! The service was good but I thought the food was a little bland with what I got, but others said their dishes were extremely spicy. It seems like there wasn't a lot of consistency. The gyoza in particular was a little disappointing in that it didn't have much taste; I don't expect a lot from just a cucumber roll ha. I will say that the scallion dumplings were delicious and I would order them again. Aka Sushi is a Korean-owned sushi restaurant located in the Bristow Center. It's a smaller place, and it gets busy during the lunch and the dinner rush. The menu is pretty extensive, offering various appetizers (gyoza, Aka Ball, Ika Tempura, etc.), soups, salads, sushi, rolls, lunch and dinner specials, and desserts. If you look around the sushi bar, there are also specials posted. We came here for an early lunch, and we ordered: +nigiris (which comes in 2) - toro, sake belly, and botan amaebi +the Bob Roll - filled with grilled eel, avocado, cucumber, and crunch, topped with spicy salmon and sauce +the Captain Crunch Roll - filled with shrimp tempura The sushi was fresh, and I actually preferred the nigiri more than the specialty rolls. Some of the toro pieces were a little 'wet', though, so I wished these were patted down before the send off. Prices are definitely on the higher end, and note that as other sushi places, there are some options that are of market priced. Service was very friendly and welcoming. Came here for dinner with a bridal party recently and enjoyed a decent meal. The one thing I will say is that the photos of the space make it look a lot more elegant than it is. This is clearly a restaurant that does most of its business in takeout and Uber eats, because the interior is definitely showing its age. The service was prompt and friendly. We had 10 people and no one had any issues with their order which is always impressive. I opted for one of their pre-made sushi orders (I think it was A) and it came with a good selection of different rolls so it was almost like a personal mini sushi buffet. I ordered the Tako Yaki and the 3 roll lunch special to go. Tako is pretty tasty, it wasn't as crispy as I wanted it to be but the flavor is there. Their lunch special rolls are generic, their lunch special selection is not wide as other places. The California roll was decent, but their tuna and salmon roll was really lacking. I didn't like how pale the color of the salmon was. It didn't look fresh at all. The miso soup that came with the meal was saltier than usual. The color of the soup kinda looks like soy sauce was used or it could be they used a dark miso paste but regardless, it was salty. Overall it was meh for me, I have had better sushi with more variety to choose from, especially with the lunch special. This isn't really a lunch special if it's $14+ bucks for some plain jane sushi. read more

I went here with my friend and we were able to find parking right in front, there are plenty of spaces in the lot. When we walked in we were greeted by the friendly staff and seated right away. The ambiance was casual. We ordered the takoyaki and fried wontons for appetizer. The fried wontons were really good, but the takoyaki was a little on the mushier side so I probably wouldn't get it again. We ordered the playboy roll, salmon belly, salmon sashimi, salmon&avocado rolls, and I forget the name of the last roll we ordered. My friend and I enjoyed most of them except the last roll and playboy roll. The sushi quality is average here. Not very fresh but not the worst we've had either. We love Aka Sushi! We always get 3 to 4 rolls from the A La Carte Chef's Specials menu to-go to split between 2 of us. THE MANHATTAN ROLL is amazing. It is a crab, masago, cucumber, avocado, salmon and eel roll. The eel is smoky and the sauce on top is sweet. The service is also so great! Be very careful eating here. They served us "Otoro" that was horribly fishy and sour tasting while also being chewy. If you've ever had otoro you know it never has a fishy taste and is as smooth as butter in texture with a very pleasant umami flavor. Much of the rest of the Nigiri (hamachi, maguro, sake, sake belly, unagi, hirame, escolar) was decent and tasted fresh but the smoked salmon was also very fishy tasting (how this is possible is beyond me unless they cross contaminated their food). I can only conclude they have no problem serving sushi that is well past fresh and only fit for cooking or the trash. Sushi requires the customer to put a great deal of trust in the quality and professionalism of the chef. I for one will never order from AKA Sushi again and I'd suggest you do the same. read more

I'm always a bit leery when I walk into a sushi bar and don't see an Asian customers. Nonetheless, we ate. The fish quality is average, the tuna a bit less than that. Nori was old and dried out. The rice was fresh. Futomaki was missing campyo and burdock, and we had to ask them to leave out the avocado. You can't sit at the sushi bar, and even if they let you, the chef's are elevated several feet above you and not in a position to chat. Overall, if I were to shop at the Harris Teeter around the corner, I'd probably get sushi here for a quick lunch. read more

AKA Sushi is the best sushi place around IMO. Only 4 stars because there hours aren't as regular as I would like. Like why are they closed on Sundays? I also LOVE that they have a lunch special. The spicy roll combo is so good and it comes with a side of miso soup. All of their ingredients are so fresh and everything always tastes wonderful. To be honest, I did not expect much from Aka Sushi as it was a small unassuming place in a strip mall with a terribly designed parking lot but it slaps for real. The tuna combo and the salmon combo were both amazing. Quality of the fish was better than what I was expecting and the price is comparable to other local sushi joints. Quality takes time so I'd call ahead before you pick it up (if you're doing takeout). I'll definitely be coming back here in the future. read more

They have 3 kinds of combo specials which comes with three rolls each. It helped us make a decision quickly and that is how we ended up with the Kenny, FireFire, and the Bellevue. Also added two other special rolls - the Rainbow Roll and the Shogun Roll. It was all delicious! My favorite was the FireFire because of the spice which ended with a nice crunch followed by the Kenny as a close second. We had takoyaki as our appetizer which was also good - fried and crispy on the outside and soft and tasty on the inside. In general, the food was good and prices were not outrageous. The dining area was clean and services was good. The one thing that we didn't like was that a few of the customers were more of the "unrefined dining type". You know the type. It's the crocs with socks and sweat pants type that watch videos on their phone with full volume for all to hear. The couple that sat next to us both watched their phones almost the entire time with volume full on playing music and YouTube videos. It would be nice if businesses would at least inform their unrefined clientele that it is polite to put your phone on silent so that they do not disturb others. I don't want to hear your music or listen to your politically charged YouTube videos! read more
