I also want to note that as a petite woman who was by myself I was able to feel comfortable and welcomed which I honestly wasn't sure would be possible in what is traditionally a conservative male space. Such useful information! This is an amazing resource! They provide: *Career Counseling *Educational and Entrepreneurial Grants *On Line Career Resources *Computer literacy instructions .......and much more. ALL FREE OF CHARGE I had the great fortune to find CTFD when I had no clue what to do, after a serious injury made it almost impossible to continue my career as a professional dancer. I took full advantage of their free career counseling, workshops, and computer classes way back in 2001. When I first came to CTFD I was still baffled with the idea that I was soon going to be faced with a future that did not include dance as being my sole financial support and my identity. I had many people trying to convince me to go to culinary school or to go to school to be a sommelier, but it didn't seem to fit into my ideal picture of my future. I also had no desire to "sacrifice" to get the education for either of those careers. I decided to check out the career counseling that was available to dancers who were in transition. Thanks to the guidance of Paulette Fried, and the many programs offered at CTFD I was able to set my top 3 priorities in order. 1. I wanted to get paid to sweat and stay in shape. 2. I did not want to have to wear shoes to work. 3. I wanted to eat and drink with abandon while enjoying many adventures. Paulette was very supportive of my unusual priorities. Instead of applying for a grant "back in the day", I chose to set off to pursue a passionately active lifestyle and find my bliss with the support and encouragement of everyone at CTFD. I have come full circle with CTFD. At the going away party for Paulette Fried, I had realized that I was finally living my top 3 priorities. 1. I get paid to sweat while motivating others to embrace an active and healthy lifestyle. 2. "We Do it Barefoot" in all of my classes and most of my Personal Training Session...I sometimes forget to put shoes on in the morning! 3. My active, adventurous, and healthy lifestyle enables me to enjoy what I eat-guilt free. And 99% of my clients are "foodies" so I get many perks at fine restaurants along with receiving "wine bonuses" from some of my clients when they reach their goals. This school is old, it's whether with history and filled with the culture of the surrounding area,…read morepeople from many classes of life come to this school. I went to and participated at this school from its leadership to its band and a couple other odd roles here and there. Every staff member here truly and honestly wants to see the students reach colleges and try their hardest to accommodate to the generation and ideologies of everyone. I know that there's very mixed opinions about this school too. But I believe alot of it stems from the oppression of the community around it itself and not the oppression of students within the school. Most of the time when a student wanted to step up and make changes for the better of the school all staff is onboard and even encourages students to strive in their choice. And most of the time that small niche club of students who want better actually grows. Progression is taking place within this school and I feel greatly about the leaps and bounds students are going through to not just better their own lives but better the lives of future generations of students. Its a marvel to look at, I truly do believe that if this movement of spirit continues. Anybody who's considering this school should come drop by.

Theres 1 good thing about this school and that's the Marching Band..or atleast it was the best thing here .. they have won lots of Band Competitions because the teacher is or was a Amazing Tough teacher.. The Academic Decathlon was great and they always had a hard team...now, the rest The school is as ghetto as it gets..not South central ghetto but L.A. ghetto. The tagging in that school is Ridiculous..tagging Everywhere. I remember being there 1 summer and they were doing a parent tour of the school.. everywhere they went tagging..they even took them to the bathroom and the Tagging there looked like a Tagging Paradise where everything was tagged up. I remember asking if they were going to clean that graffiti that I had seen for a week already..I had a week there..and their response was if we clean it up..itll be tagged the next day..I thought wow.. I witnessed fights every week..in thr back of the school in the alley.. ditching was ridiculous..you see kids hanging out all over school and nothing was done ..jumping the fences .. older staff going out with students ..the smell of weed everywhere..I mean Wow! I was only there 1 summer and even though everyone was used to the way things were and were cool about it..you settle and do what you gotta do.. I had never taken an acting class (aside from a 6 week class when I was 12) but have always felt drawn to the craft and I could not have found a better teacher, guide, and mentor than Paul. Now, I can confidently call myself an actor. He has helped me tremendously to find parts of myself I didn't know were there, to improve my acting and confidence and he has done so with an exploratory, playful, and encouraging approach. I feel safe 'playing' in class with different choices and his direction is always on point and transformative. Paul has also helped me navigate the industry and I go to him when I have a question or need direction. I remembered her name and approached her with a smile, telling her I wanted to send thank yous to old teachers. She said she was going to call the police. I paid $60K a year from 6th grade to senior year FOR THIS TREATMENT? I am so disrespected and offended. I have been calling the school for days so I instead went in person for efficiency. I thought I would be greeted with a smile And open arms. .... Also one comment on the education - some girls upon graduation are so entitled and privileged and think they are the smartest people in the world. I too was on a high horse after graduation, but my university humbled me quickly. Archer is a bubble that is not reflective of the real world. I am Israeli and girls have texted me saying that "the Israeli Palestinian conflict is not complex" - i took a class on this conflict in college, and no one would ever claim that the conflict is NOT COMPLEX other than a holier-than-though archer that never stepped into the real world~and is too in their own world to hear or engage in another perspective. Hope this helps in your decision. I never thought I would have to badmouth my middle and high school, but the treatment that I receive as An alumni is UNACCEPTABLE.
