The last class we had, the shooting workshop, was probably the best. It was a private range, and I shot an orange, which was so cool. I highly recommend this workshop. So now, while I wouldn't say I'd be "excited" about a day at the range, I'll at least go in somewhat knowing what I'm doing and have some fun, which is a huge difference from a few months ago, when I wouldn't even go at all. As an instructor and human, Dave is patient, kind, and funny. This kind of class can be intense- a firearms instructor needs to walk a fine line between being supportive and encouraging, but also making sure people know what they're doing so they don't hurt themselves. Dave is able to balance that well. He knows when to explain, when to show, and when to let the student try it out. He also seems to know when he can encourage a student a bit more to reach the next level of skill and when to back off. He definitely knows guns, but he knows people, too! Good combination in a firearms instructor.

Very quickly, he identified that I was anticipating the shot when pulling the trigger. He gave me a simple technique to break that habit. The difference was almost immediate. Within minutes, I went from shots scattered around the target to consistently hitting the bull's-eye. I was amazed! What I appreciated most was how encouraging Dave was. He made the entire experience fun, relaxed, and motivating, while still being very focused on helping me improve. He also has a wonderful ability to recognize when a student is doing something right and build confidence from there. Dave is knowledgeable, insightful, kind, and genuinely passionate about teaching. I already knew my stance, and the proper hand positioning, and was taught the behaviors of how to act when shooting. The class was super knowledgable and I was very timid shooting the gun but he step-by-step helps you and ensures you are doing everything properly. Every fire arm is treated like it's loaded and finger off the trigger. I had bleeding on my hand when I was reloading my ammo, and the staff provided me a bandaid which was appreciated. From the moment we arrived, we felt that safety was the top priority. The setting was amazing, the location was great, and the entire experience was extremely well organized. Doug and Paula were fantastic instructors. They paid incredible attention to detail and were very patient throughout the entire course. They explained everything clearly, including proper handling, safety procedures, and how to keep everyone around us safe. They took the time to walk us through every step, answered all of our questions, and never made us feel rushed or uncomfortable asking for clarification. By the time we left, we felt much more knowledgeable and confident about the fundamentals of safe firearm handling. We couldn't have asked for a better experience for our first course. First day was in the office where topics were covered via PowerPoint presentation and Pete allowed us to do dry firing with airsoft guns. Second day was at the range for about 1.5hr where he taught us safe operation (i.e. grip, stance, aiming, accuracy, loading, unloading). Special remarks: Pete's dedication to gun safety and safe gun operation is apparent in the way he teaches. He is passionate about safety and an enthusiastic teacher which made the class fun. One of his most valuable strengths is that he was able to teach in a way that I could understand. (Side note: I am afraid of guns but took this class to combat that fear!) Pete was able to keep the class engaged, provided constructive feedback, and attention to detail. With his guidance and support, I was able to see a significant improvement in my grouping and decrease my fear of guns overall. Um. Nope. Not ever again…read more Over a week ago I got a quote for adding 2 sets of night sights to 2 sliders. Twice by email, responding to my checking the time, they confirmed between 12 and 1 was good to drop off and have the work done while I went to grab a coffee, thus saving me 2 hours, plus riding in the blazing heat, and at least $25 in gas. True to my word, I got there yesterday at 12:30. Surprise surprise. The gun smith was no where to be found. I was told they had no idea when he'd return. They mumbled something about a funeral. LOL. Right. A few sentences later he mumbled a new excuse "an emergency". One would think a funeral happens long enough after the deceased dropped dead that they'd have/had time to plan their time off and make necessary concessions. At that point I should have listened to my gut and just canceled the project but instead I left the sliders and sights there to be installed whenever. I was home all of 20 minutes and got the call they were done. I guess the funeral let out early. Hahaha (no disrespect to "the dead" :) Adding salt to the situation once home I took a moment to watch the manufacturer's video on installation. Admittedly something I should have done in the first place. My bad. Bottom line. If one was ret@rded and worked reeeeaaaallly slow, using no special tools they could get both sights installed in 10 minutes. 1 screw for each front. The backs merely slide in sideways with a couple light taps. So I'm out $100, 5 hours of my time back and forth, over $30. in gas for what amount to 10 minutes of work. Oh and a boat load of "sorrys", can't forget those. Sorry is just a word. Price gouging, highly inflated cost aside... Any reputable business screws up that bad, they'd offer some meaningful gesture of value to compensate for the loss one took coming to them. Not a peep. Not a "Gee we screwed up we'll discount you a dollar." I did get a "have a nice day" out the door tho. Shame. They have a great selection of guns. One I was strongly considering but guess who isn't getting a penny more much less any of the budget for some higher end long range rifles. Whatever ever happened to gun owner's common code of decency, honesty, stand up, fair pricing? It's given away to gouging, greed, unaccountability and bad business ethics. They don't even lie well. Or is this just an Armenian thing?

The instructor Scott dilegently took us through all the steps and pointed out the many pitfalls and dangers when working with the equipment. Although I would say that the classes alone are not enough for a complete newbie to master all the tools in the shop. Table saws can be intimidating and dangerous tools so it is advisable to plan on commiting extra time to getting comfortable and experienced with the machines if you're a newbie who's planning on getting a membership to use the equipment for solo projects.
