So we recently moved into a new home and although the home came with irrigation and sprinklers I was having issues with them. During rain season I would get areas of water pooling all over my yard and back yard. Then during summer, the sprinklers and drip system that the builder installed seemed weak and inadequate. My wife and I decided to take on a recent project of changing the plants and adding new plants around our property. We wanted to bring on a professional to make sure our system was the best it could be so we wouldn't have to worry about it for years to come. We looked around but ultimately went with AJS Sprinkler. A lot of the other companies seemed push and too "corporate". When I got in contact with AJS they had a more personal vibe. I spoke with Steve and he offered to come by and check things out first before recommending anything. He was so easy to talk to, I didn't feel intimidated nor did I feel like I was getting a sales talk. I found out it was a local family business so I knew the work done was going to be top notch because it would be his reputation on the line. What was shocking during Steve's inspection of the setup that came with the house was how weak it was. You figure a new construction home with the prices they are selling for would come with a much better setup. Couple of lines were pinched, unnecessary runs, and other sprinkler jargon I didn't know about until Steve educated me. So in the end we got several new runs of drip and sprinklers put in, fixed existing ones, AND he fixed the drainage issue I had around my property. Now everything is being watered properly and during the last rain season I no longer had any issues of pooling water. I began a backyard project in September and needed to reroute and cap off my irrigation before pool construction could begin. I contacted AJS Sprinkler and arranged for them to complete the job. Steve, (owner) and two others arrived went to work, and not only completed the job to my complete satisfaction, but Steve found other areas of my irrigation that were leaking and failing to efficiently irrigate my landscape. Steve and crew completed those repairs as well and my landscape and I couldn't be happier. Through casual conversation with Steve, I discovered AJS Sprinkler also does backyard lighting and audio which was going to be the next phase of our project. My wife and I shared our vision with Steve which was to create a very inviting and ambient environment that my family and I could enjoy during our beautiful summer evenings. Steve made several suggestions, arranged to have his lighting and audio vendor, Victor M. meet us at our home to confirm our vision. Once our pool was completed, Steve, Victor, Matt, and Kenny arrived and completed our backyard lighting and audio project in two days. My wife wanted to illuminate the front of our home to include the second story which Steve and crew also took care of. The end result was beyond our expectations and the patience and professionalism shown by Steve and crew was exceptional. My wife and I couldn't be happier with the outcome and placement of the lighting has created a very ambient, relaxing, and inviting environment. In addition, the audio equipment that included a blue tooth compatible transformer, four speakers, and subwoofer create theater like sound which is the icing on the cake. If you're looking for a landscape contractor that specializes in irrigation, lighting, audio, and so much more, I recommend AJS Sprinkler Inc. without exception. Steve and his crew are highly professional, competent, honest and trustworthy, and the price quoted per job is the price paid regardless of the time or effort required to complete the project. Steve and his crew member were amazing. Our sprinkler system wasn't turning on after several attempts by other handymen. We bought a house sight unseen and of course the drip system had problems when we moved in. Neighbors told us AJS was the way to go and they were right. I was terrified it would be a huge bill but for less than $1000 they were able to test all three valves and both zones, repair all the broken sprinkler heads, dig up damaged tubing and replace dozens of feet of line, teach me how to program appropriately, And answer all my questions. I was having an issue with my automated timer not communicating with a specific system within the sprinkler grid and they fixed the issue as well as helped me figure out how to stop unnecessarily watering a part of my yard that is soon to be nothing but rocks. I needed a very old Drip feed valve+reducer and timer replaced. AJS showed up on time as promised and performed the task in little time. It wasn't cheap but they were very upfront about the cost and they worked with me on a couple items. They also made room in their schedule to see me on very short notice. I'm happy with the clean and professional installation of the timer on my inside garage wall and the additional time they spent showing me how to program it. read more

AJS Sprinkler was more expensive than other companies I received quotes from but I decided to go with them based on the reviews about the quality of work and their customer service. Unfortunately, they failed to meet my expectations and this was doubly disappointing given that they are higher priced than their competition. My sprinkler system had many broken heads and hadn't been checked for a few years. Water was also not coming out of one set of sprinklers. So I decided to use AJS to update the broken sprinkler heads and conduct a general check-up. After their initial visit, they found a faulty valve which they fixed. They also replaced all the broken heads and the system seemed to be working fine. However, only three months later, I came home one evening to find half my yard flooded and the sprinklers flowing uncontrollably. It was 630PM and I immediately called AJS. I could not reach anyone in any of their offices (if you engage them you'll find extreme reluctance to provide a direct phone number to a human). I searched my invoice and past emails desperately but could not find any way to reach a human. My house also did not have an obvious shut-off valve that I could find, adding to my stress (I asked my neighbors and no one could find it). I sent emails and left messages, but in the end, had to let the sprinklers flow all night. This killed me given California's recent water shortages. The next morning, AJS called me back and apologized for the situation, but defended not providing me any recourse in an emergency situation. Gayle - the person that called me - said that if she was reachable after close of business, she wouldn't have work/life balance. I do respect that, but I would expect a company with this reputation and at this price point to at least have an answering service or some way for customers to triage after-hours emergencies. I proceeded to ask her about the issue and she sent someone out to diagnose the problem. Not right away of course - because her teams had jobs they had to conduct that day - but at the end of the day! Once again, at this price point, I was unpleasantly surprised by their priorities. Finally, when the person came out and inspected the system, I was told this was an issue with one of the valves AJS hadn't hadn't touched - and not with the two valves they had fixed. I found that surprising given the sprinkler system hadn't had a leak for years before this and then suddenly had a massive leak only 3 months after they came out to fix it. Of course, one area where they were very proactive was when it came to providing me the estimate for "fixing the faulty valve." Does the story end there? No. On that same call, I asked Gayle to help me identify where the shutoff valve was in case something like this were to happen again. She confidently told me that the house did not have one and provided me with yet another expensive estimate to have one installed. At this point, I had lost trust in Gayle and AJS and asked a contractor that had done previous work for me about the shut-off valve. He came out and showed me where I could shut off the water from - it wasn't attached to the house but was found in the ground. Once again, I would have expected AJS - with their years of experience working with sprinkler systems - to point that out to me. The same contractor also told me that the previous leak was from one of the "newer" valves. He had no idea I had used AJS - leading me to conclude that Gayle and AJS had lazily decided to take the path of least liability on the root cause of the leak so that they wouldn't have to cover the cost of additional work to fix an issue they created. Though he's not a sprinkler contractor, I trust my contractor's motives - and therefore opinion - over those of AJS. He didn't charge me a dime for coming out to help me with my issue. In the end, my experience with AJS led me to the following conclusions: - their quality of work does not warrant the price they charge; - they will not be there for customers in emergency situations (consistent theme with the other yelp reviews); - they are not thorough or forthcoming with their diagnoses and will shift blame to owners or other parties to avoid responsible follow-up to their mistakes. I would avoid using this company mainly because they are not trustworthy and egregiously prioritize profit over customer service. I also know from an actual distressing personal experience that they will not be there for you should something go wrong. read more

Last year at the start of the pandemic, like many others, we decided to expand our vegetable garden. Steve came out to give us a quote. He seemed to know exactly what we were looking for so we scheduled an appt for instillation of multiple drip systems. He and his crew returned a few days later and did a tremendous amount of work fairly quickly. They programed my system, setting up 2 new zones, and then showed me how to use everything. They were great. They showed up wearing a mask and came out within a day and installed a new sprinkler box. It was a much easier box to use than any of the others we purchased from Home Depot. Gave recommendations on watering the lawn and drip watering for back and side yards. They gave us recommendations of Water conservation and drainage. This is a good company. They principally do sprinklers, and they know what they're doing. The cost of a service call is $105, but that $105 covers a lot. In our case, we had a problem with a valve and a malfunctioning drip system, and the fix was covered by the service call plus materials cost. Trust the five star reviews on this one. I've had AJS out a couple times now. I can do lots of the basic repairs myself, but when I start to get over my head I call the pros. Steve from AJS is a craftsman who has such detailed knowledge and some equipment that you just don't find at Home Depot. I never regret having them come troubleshoot, offer professional advice, and get the job done in a reasonable time with a high degree of workmanship. If I had a friend who knew absolutely nothing about home repairs, I would refer them to AJS knowing that he would be treated professionally and not be taken advantage of. We had a simple outdoor landscape sprinkler problem. I called 3-4 companies with no returned calls. I called AJS Sprinkler and had my call returned within 12 hours. We scheduled an appointment -- and they called 30 minutes prior to arrival. Troy and Steve arrived on time -- and were very responsive to my problem. And I did note they have a large utility truck with every conceivable pipe or sprinkler fitting possible -- just like bringing the store to your home --impressive. We purchased a new home and need sprinklers installed in our backyard. I called AJS Sprinkler 3 times before they returned my phone call. Last week I finally spoke with Gail and made an appointment for 3:30 - 4:00 today. My husband and I both took off work early, picked our kids up and rushed home. I've used AJS twice now since buying a home 6 months ago. The first time, Steve and his crew were able to simplify an intricate irrigation system and provide / set up a new interface which was MUCH easier to use. For the 2nd project, they replaced my front yard's sprinkler system (old galvanized pipes and valves were causing major leaks underground). The new system works GREAT and it is super clean and much more efficient. Despite the extensive work involved, Steve and his crew finished in one day and were very professional, informative and polite. I expected the front lawn to be all dug up afterwards considering the work involved, but when they wrapped, you could hardly tell the extent of work that was done. I appreciated their attention to detail and their approach to being as non invasive as possible with the lawn. It looks great! I was in serious need of some sprinkler work...mostly repairs. Gayle was so nice and set everything up. Troy and his partner (Eduardo or Alberto? So sorry I can't remember!) came and did the work and both did a great job. Troy explained everything and was very knowledgeable. I didn't feel any pressure to get the work done, but decided I wanted them to do the work. While it was a little pricey, everything is perfect and high quality products were used. My new timer was installed and was a life changer. I am so pleased with the work. Only thing is that two sprinklers are a little off, hitting my planters, so I will adjust, but I need to learn that anyways, plus I thought they would be fine In that position and told Troy that before he left. Excellent experience! Prompt callback and even received a confirmation call the day before our appointment for sprinkler heads that were not working. Two gentleman showed up on time who were knowledgeable and eager to educate us. They did a thorough walk through of all zones and made recommendations. Knew which kinds of plants needed shorter times but watering more often, etc. Again, very knowledgeable - significantly more than any other company we had used in the past.
