[in tears] I want a Papaya King hot dog! - Cosmo Kramer, Seinfeld da Scene: visiting for a few weeks and headed to Kakaako Farmers for breakfast and gifts to bring home. Tucked into the 1st corner when you cross to the 2nd side is the Aiwi Waffle truck... as I scan the menu, I see Waffle Dog and my mind spins into nostalgia. I immediately order one up and while waiting thoughts of KC Drive Inn Kapalulu memories flood back. Countless nights spent cruising Waikiki ending with a Waffle Dog and Ono Ono Shake in the parking lot with friends. Anticipation... da Grub: Harmony is my best description. Crisp yet tender waffle hugs the all beef frank closely, all enveloping, almost like it was a dipped corn dog. Yet it had all the score marks and texture of a waffle! The frank itself is juicy, plump perfection, semi-med grind showed little glistening pockets... savory perfection! The Honey Mustard took it to another level, bringing some sweetness and tang at the same time. da Service: They made me feel like a calabash cousin, and while chatting found a California connection as they spent some time living in the East Bay! I love mochi waffle anything and this has got to be hands down the BEST waffle place I've been to on island. I got their banana mac nut waffle, their banana lumpia waffle and their house cold brew. Delicious! Prices may seem steep, but trust me you can taste the quality in the Ingredients here. I feel like I'm not even that big of a foodie to be able to tell quality of honey, but when I say this honey is different!! It totally is. I don't know how to describe it other than it tastes expensive. The workers are so nice and friendly here , they helped give me recommendations on what's good and I love that they have outdoor seating for you to enjoy everything. Highly recommend! read more

Was intrigued by the idea of Gluten Free and organic waffles. I normally don't like Gluten free things because you can taste the difference - NOT these though! Absolutely delicious. We were lucky enough to stumble in here on the day of their soft opening. They are on the second floor of the Ohana Hale building, with a lovely space overlooking the park. My favorite breakfast I had in my 10 day trip and I love to eat! I actually never prefer a sweet breakfast but the rest of my family wanted to go here and I was so pleasantly surprised. This mochi style waffle is lighter and maybe even better than "the real thing"? It is a little pricey but considering the portion size, could easily be shared by 2 people and the fresh ingredients they use, I think it worth it. Highly recommend trying this place out. read more

I came shortly after they opened, and they were very busy, but so friendly and gracious. I love that they have a mochi base option since I'm gluten free and everything is made with so much care. You can find 'Aiwi waffles right now at Kaakako and Kailua farmers market. The waffles won't disappoint you, it was really satisfying! I had the waffle hot dog and it was really yummy with the maple syrup on it! Prices little on the higher side, but the food makes it all so worth it! As you enter the market, it looks like a little thrift store but you find the store in the second level. Stairs are off to the left along with the elevators!! As soon as you reach the top of the stairs your, your greeted with beautiful counter and plants. Okay so we got the WAFFLE DOG 10/10 The batter was not thick it was just enough. And when you bite into it you're greeted with a polish dog, omg yummy yummy juicy and moist!! They pair it with their homemade honey mustard, the combination was perfect!! We're over the top healthy when it comes to eating. No seed oils, no preservatives, no dyes, no processed food of any kind, etc...this was pretty much the only place we could find in the area that met our high standards. The waffle was fantastic! So nice to find a gluten-free fluffy waffle. The toppings were nice. I was disappointed they didn't have the dairy-free butter nor the dairy-free whipped cream. (They said they usually do, just not that day.) I think the waffle would have been so much better with those! And it had been hyped by a friend, so I was expecting those options to be available. For a more than $20 waffle, I would expect a lot more. This was SO very costly. I would equate it with getting a treat at Disney - you expect it to be outrageously expensive. But I wasn't at an amusement park. So I was disappointed at the extremely high cost. read more

This place satisfied this dairy-free, pregnant mama's craving for waffles. I ordered the banana mac mochi waffle (no butter, no whip) with peanut butter and chocolate sauce. Holy smokes it was so yummy. The woman behind the counter was so pleasant and gentle, taking care to explain what I could and could not have due to my dairy allergy. We went around 8:45am on a Monday, and was pleasantly surprised that it was not super busy, but everyone leaving had smiles on their face and fully bellies. So my husband and I were up early on our last full day of vacation. Took a walk to explore and a lovely lady was handing out free samples of the mochi waffles. I looked at my husband and said let's share one!!! We got the banana macadamia nut waffle and it was amazing. I'm home and can't stop thinking about how no other waffles are going to compare. A dedicated gluten free restaurant that is adjacent to one of the best food truck clusters on the island. I (Celiac) got to eat a completely safe breakfast while the rest of the family (no food restrictions) got to eat whatever they wanted at the trucks. The waffle and all toppings were fresh and the meal was excellent. I'll be going back for the seasonal gingerbread waffle next. You have no idea how happy this makes me. read more

I got the regular açaí bowl, and again, it is the best açaí bowl I have ever had. The açaí is thick and very rich, and you can tell the blend is real açaí and the berries on top are fresh. The topping bar is a great touch because you can customize it to your liking. It is sweet but not overly sweet or artificial tasting. It also takes a long time to melt, so you can take your time eating it. We also got a couple waffles on the side, and those were good too.

At the end of the meal, when it was time to pay, our server stood there and immediately asked which tip option we wanted to choose -- "1, 2, or 3." Tipping should reflect the quality of service provided, and unfortunately the customer service we received did not warrant that approach. Overall, the experience did not live up to the reviews we had read.
