Nitro Stout. Airline Brewing. Amherst, Maine.
Amy F.

Airline Brewing's fabulous craft beers have been joined by an excellent menu. Food is tasty and portions are generous. In nice weather you can eat outside and play horseshoes. The inside is warm and welcoming. There are few places to eat on this part of Route 9 and this place is a winner. Too bad it's not open more days. Here's a picture of the delicious Nitro Stout. My husband chose the equally good red ale.

Sunday brunch and bloody marys were delicious! Over easy eggs were done right. Variety menu was not overwhelming.

Wow wow wow! I think this was the overall best brewery we visited while in Maine! The beer and the…read morefood were incredible! Add in the ambiance and you get this gem in Ellsworth. We walked over from the main strip of downtown and loved the vibe as soon as we arrived. Walking down the stairs to get to the brewery versus the glass blowing shop was so cute. With apples on the ground from the apple trees, it couldn't be more "Maine". When walking in, you order at the bar for both food and drink and then there is a booth/trailer out back where the food comes out. The inside is set up for open mic night and then outside they have a full stage where they host live music. There is plenty of seating outside at the picnic tables as well. We ordered a couple beers, the Margherita pizza, the potato chips, and the Carrot Top salad. I cannot tell you howwwwwwwww amazing the salad was!! I have never had a salad like this and I ate every last bite. The roasted carrots were so good, combined with the crispy onions and the dressing; it was heaven. The chips were incredible and the dip that comes with it just elevates it that much more. I believe it was a pickle dip of some sort? I can't remember specifically, just that I needed a vat of it. Then the pizza?! We couldn't finish it but man did we want to! Add all this tasty food to a beautiful backdrop and we were the happiest little foodies in Maine. Hands down best stop in Ellsworth!

Located on a neighborhood street a block off main street with plenty of parking is this hidden gem. They have indoor and lots of outdoor seating. The night we were there, there was a jazz duo providing entertainment. Our group ordered a variety of beers, cider and seltzers. The blue maple selz had a unique taste, but was refreshing. Beers included fog light , Maine coast , riverbend and aqua culture- with pine and oysters. The beers were very good and we purchased some to go. The atmosphere is relaxing and friendly. They promote farm to table and sustainability. A perfect location to relax after a day in Acadia

We ordered the baked lobster dinner and while decent in taste of haddock stuffing in the baked whole lobster and size of it, it took entirely too long (35 minutes) , not because the kitchen was heavy on orders and lean on staff, it was audibly clear that there was way too much fooling around going on and not enough cooking. I worked in the oil and gas industry so cursing starts to become white noise to me, however, I felt uncomfortable for the elderly patrons and children present with all the F-bombs that were being announced from the kitchen and launched at the waitress. Clearly it is a favorite with locals (as evidence in the bar area) and I can see why with how great the servers/bartender are but the wait compounded by the inedible sides (a canned green bean, frozen veg mix with peppers that was intensely bitter and mashed potatoes that were clearly sitting in a warmer for too long just isn't worth a second trip. It was Saturday and apparently besides the slim pickings, everyone rolls up the sidewalk by 7 or 8 respectively so we went there by default, not design.

Big crowd slowed the service at first but the waitress apologized and made up for it with quick and pleasant service once she got to us. Food was really good. Crab Stew was the best crab soup we ever had; chock full with a ton af crab meat and a nice creamy, buttered broth. No potatoes. Lobster Risotto was baked in scallop shells topped with bread crumbs and was delicious. Regular menu included mussels as well as fried seafood and assorted burgers. A tall glass dessert case as you come in was very tempting but with soup, salad and Risotto we were filled to the gills. I wish we had the time to try it again this year.

Fast forward, we moved away to Arizona for 14 years before moving back to New England. Just had lunch at Darby's to celebrate our anniversary. It was perfect as always So often when you visit an old favorite it's not so wonderful anymore. But Darby's is the exception. Same charming and spotlessly clean interior, same amazing food and wonderful friendly service. Today, we started off with a bowl of French fries as an appetizer and they were fantastic! I had macaroni and cheese (without the Cheez It topping due to an allergy to orange cheese). My husband had the chicken pad Thai and he said it was fantastic just as it always has been in the past. The server was superb. My husband asked if the Mac and cheese was white cheese and learned it was so I ordered that explaining to the server that I was really happy that it was white cheese as I have an allergy to annatto which is in orange cheese. She immediately alerted me to the fact that they top their Mac and cheese with crumbled Cheez Its and asked if I'd like her to hold those off. It was really refreshing to have a server so aware of a likely issue with an ingredient for a customer. Just fantastic personalized service. Thank you! We will be back again next year. The temperature in the dining room was about the same and despite a large number of customers wearing their coats at the tables, the staff did nothing to remedy the situation. The place was clean and cute, dog-themed and decorated for Halloween, and the menu is basically all burgers, salads and sandwiches. We split a classic naan breadsticks, which turned out to be a naan flatbread pizza that tasted and looked like a crappy frozen pizza from a gas station. We also shared a classic cheeseburger that was pretty good; definitely above average and comparable in taste and size to Smashburger. The men's room was clean, service was okay, and that's about it. Prices were comparable to other places in the area, but given the uncomfortable HVAC, waitress upsell, and lousy, inauthentic naan we won't be going back.

It is a narrow space, but it seemed like a larger one. The food was excellent. I got a gouda burger and ended up taking half of it home. The app filled me up--four nice sized egg rolls stuffed with reuben ingredients. Yummy! The only sticking point I had was the unfriendly service. When I thank a person for every little thing they do, I kind of expect at least a smile. Not happening. Perhaps if I had bought alcohol it would have been friendlier? That kind of is off-putting. Nonetheless, great food.
