James and the team at Air Nerds were competitively priced, but even more important during that 90-degree week, prioritized speed. When James arrived, he not only fixed our immediate issue, but identified the root cause (a freon leak), and came up with a plan to fix that as well. We are now on an annual service program with Air Nerds to make sure we stay ahead of future issues. My HVAC failed just before the July 4th holiday. James Martin from Air Nerds worked with me to schedule a visit and get to me quickly. On arrival he took all steps to test and verify the status of the unit. He even performed one additional step (others skipped) to validate the 13 year old unit was dead. The provided quotes to units I specified but also included/recommended a Bosch unit that was far superior to what I requested... and negotiated a price that was nearly equal to the single stage units I requested. I also requested Bosch quotes from other vendors. Air Nerds came in significantly less. They were on-site installing 2 days after I gave them the green light. The installers were professional and respectfully. I requested minor alterations to the install and they executed without hesitation. The job went very smoothly and I love my new Bosch system. Air Nerds was the 3rd HVAC company I dealt with this summer. I first met them when a friend called then and asked if they could stop by for an emergency quick fix. My thermostat wasn't working. This occurrred on the same day I had another HVAC company, whom I paid thousands, at my home. They left without the air actually checked or working. They refused to let me pay them anything for that service. So when the ceiling fell in because the previous company hadn't glued the PVC line together, I called Air Nerds for an inspection. They only found one small issue that cost little. They didn't try to overcharge me or be unethical in any way. My previous two HVAC companies in Charlottesville in the summer of hell for me 2021 did scam me. I'll be using them for maintaining my old unit until it see's it's last day and then, I'll be using them to install a new unit. These guys know how to treat people and build lifelong relationships. Something others have abandoned in the name of a quick buck and a scam to get it. I'll pay more for honesty to save my sanity. Air Nerds have a lifelong customer and my referral any day of the week. James and his assistant were fantastic... extremely thorough and knowledgeable. They spent 2 hours meticulously tuning up my HVAC and it runs better than it ever has. He suggested what issues should be fixed more urgently and other issues that weren't as pressing. He didn't have the type of capacitor I needed replaced so he offered to pick one up from a local store and return to replace it. I meant to write this review a couple weeks ago when the Air Nerds team was out to clean our clothes dryer vent duct. One of the team was Seth, and I forgot the other young man's name. They were both very professional, friendly, efficient, and helpful. They cleaned out the duct, which was completely blocked. They showed me how the poor design of the external vent contributed to the blockage and how I can clean it myself in the future. I appreciate their candor, but will most likely just give Air Nerds the business in the future! read more

I contacted Air Nerds to see about cleaning my ducts and having our summer maintenance checked. We had another company come out and tell us that they couldn't clean our ducts for some reason. (Their loss) There was also a bad smell in 2 of my upper rooms believed to be ozone from our air purifier that we have on our hvac. James immediately sent someone and checked it out. Turns out the Air guardian was putting out such a strong smell that it had been making my head hurt. Not only did they clean our ducts, they switched out our capacitor that wasn't working properly and they changed our air purifier to see if that would be a better fit for me. Turns out I was also getting that same ozone smell from the new air purifier and I called James the next day to let him know what was going on. He was very understanding and was sending someone out with yet another air purifier and this one, the iWave has been great! It does everything the other 2 air purifiers does but with no ozone and no maintenance. This company has worked with me so well and have made me so happy. Everyone was nice and polite and answered all of my questions. They have also sent me info on the products that were installed in my home and I will definitely be using them again without hesitation. Do yourself a favor, stop looking for other companies and just call them or text them ;) even better! read more

Wow! This Company is absolutely Amazing! They really go Above & Beyond!! I spoke w/ James on Wed while I was waiting for another Company to come out due to restrictions of home warranty I couldn't have him come out 1st. The other Comp. stated w/out a diagnosis of my a/c I might add that I needed a new ac & heating system at the tune of $11,700, $9200 out of my pocket. Mind you, we've been w/out a/c since Monday & my dog almost died of heat exhaustion. They said nothing we could do but get a new unit, ours was so old & the compressor had seized up & nothing they could do. I went & got a loan & was promised they'd put it in this weekend. Then was told today can't be installed until next Wed. I told them about my dog & that it was 90 degrees in my home. They stated "nothing we can do" Well something just didn't sit well w/ me, all the night before in my gut I kept thinking about Air Nerds & that I felt like I'd rather go around my warranty company & pay out of pocket. Well I called today & spoke w/ James again, he came out & FIXED my old unit in less then an hour & our house is back to normal, he wasn't pushy or trying to sell me a unit, he was trying to save my unit! Definitely would hire them again. Next-day service. Inspected my heat pump and didn't do anything for it because nothing was needed. (No extra costs.) Installed a safety mechanism. Only (minor) ding was that they were running behind schedule, but considering that it was next-day service, I don't consider it a big deal. read more

I was NEVER given a written summary of the diagnosis of my unit. They demanded my email address, saying they had to have that, to send a receipt. I NEVER got me a receipt. Owner James said he was sending me a check for $150.00, on July 9th, so I could get another diagnosis, from another Company; however, that check NEVER came. read more

I actually found James via the Yelp process of requesting additional quotes. I had never heard of air nerds prior to this but I have to say I am glad I did. James was very responsive and quickly had an appointment to come out to my house to check out a furnace that needed to be relaxed. I should mention that I was left hanging by Woodfin even though I was a good existing customer with a maintenance plan with them. Anyway, James came out and was very informative helping me with my issue and checking my house for CO2 leaks from the furnace. After confirming my gut with all of the amazing reviews for AirNerds I was sold. It was hard to believe that such a great quote could come with outstanding customer service. Heck I was paying Woodfin top dollar and they treated me like crap. Anyway, watching James with his team the day of the install was even more impressive as I saw them discussing the old unit and discussing problems they saw for learnings amount the team. Goodness where has this company been my entire home-owning life. Not only was the representative super friendly, but he came during July (high AC maintenance demand period) from Fredericksburg to Henrico County on the same day that I'd contacted the company and STILL were more reasonably priced than my other two quotes! He went into my mosquito-ridden yard with my dog barking her head off at him, in high heat and humidity, at the end of the day when I expected him to be tired and frustrated from dealing with customers the entire day, but he was professional and happy and friendly. I could hardly believe my luck in getting this man! And, he didn't rush away either after working. He took the time to tell me about the other services that they provide without being pushy, just informative. He also educated me on how humidity can influence the way the temperature feels in the house.
