On this particular tour stop, we had the opportunity to try the deep fried zucchini flowers. They were so delicious, that I could not stop thinking about them. So a couple of days later we returned for dinner, where we were seated on the adorable patio. A friendly server immediately hooked us up with drinks and a menu. I already knew I was having the zucchini flowers (duh) and decided on the lasagna for my main while the Mr. went with the gnocchi special. For dessert, I chose the millefoglie and the Mr. got the dessert of the day which was a chocolate pie. Now that I'm home and reflecting on our trip to Rome, I can say with certainty that the zucchini flowers were my favorite appetizer of the entire trip. When it comes to dessert, the millefoglie shares the honor of "favorite dessert of the trip" with one other sweet treat. Considering we had lots of amazing food on our trip, this is high praise. Trastevere is a fun, lively area filled with great bars and restaurants, but if given another opportunity, I'd happily return to Puntarella.

The spaghetti was cooked al dente. The squid ink sauce blended well with the shrimps, clams and mussels. My daughter's fettuccine was also well prepared. The sauce and the minced chicken blended very nicely with the sauce. For dessert, we tried the pistachio semifreddo. It's my first time trying this Italian dessert. Thus, we took a train ride, ready to board, train goes on strike for one hour and begins moving again. We are riding the train and this stranger approaches us. My NY inner voice wants to move to another part of the train. My cuz, from Florida, strikes up a conversation and asks where we should eat. He says he lives in Trastevere and can recommend a restaurant where the locals eat. My cuz and I follow him and Voila! He left us outside of La Tavernetta 29. The typical Brooklynite that is me says " How good can it be?" Well.. let me tell you.. I loved everything about this place.. rustic, cozy, checkered tablecloths, wooden tables, looks and feels like a neighborhood gem. Everything on the menu sounded amazing from the Pizza ( should have ordered the Amatriciana). We started our meal with a carafe of their delicious house wine,, and then shared a Caesar Salad, also delicious. I ordered a Chicken dish with peas, can't remember the exact name, but loved it. My cousin ordered Spaghetti Carbonara. I ordered their delicious Cappuccino for dessert. The whole experience was awesome! I only wish I took more pics.. view their website.
