Ended up being the worst tiramisu of this trip. Highly recommend checking this place out; it felt very authentic with the demographic in it!

FOOD - Full Italian menu with all the courses. Everyone enjoyed their food and its hearty portions. My cacio e pepe was flavorful, but the pasta was a little too far into al dente chewable. On the other hand, the lemon sorbet -- more like a lemon cream -- was fantastic. SERVICE - Service was friendly, and a bit more on the bounce than the normal laid-back Italian. The two of us having beer with lunch didn't get it served until we pointed it out -- though they more than compensated by giving us an additional small glass of it. AMBIANCE - Kind of old-school nice and dark, with classical maps and architectural diagrams on the walls. NET-NET - I would have no problem with coming back here again, or with recommending it as a place that's well away from the standard Colosseum tourist traps.

Portions were massive, and this was the perfect amount of food. The dishes were hit or miss for the most part - for appetizers we got the artichoke and the proscuitto and melon. We loved the latter, but didn't really care for the former. Amongst the main dishes, we got the gnocchi al ragu, seafood risotto, tagliatelle al ragu, spaghetti al vongole, and amatriciana. The gnocchi and vongole were not great, as the gnocchi was super mushy and vongole was pretty bland. The risotto had a good seafood flavor though. Our favorites were the tagliatelle and amatriciana (which was the star of the show) - perfectly textured noodles and great flavor. Overall, not a bad spot but you can definitely find better.

The pasta selection is incredible--authentic, flavorful, and truly traditional, with generous portions that leave you satisfied without feeling heavy. The appetizers are perfect for sharing--delicious and well-balanced, without filling you up too much before the main course. And the meatballs? Absolutely to die for. Tender, rich, and packed with flavor. The tiramisu was easily one of the best I've had so far--clearly homemade, and you can taste the difference in every bite. Don't skip their house red wine--it's the perfect pairing and really elevates the whole experience. On top of all that, the staff was amazing and the ambiance felt warm and welcoming from the moment we walked in. Definitely a place I'll be coming back to next time I'm in Rome.

There's plenty of outdoor and indoor seating, set up at tables with white tablecloths, probably enough to seat a hundred fifty people; the layout is spacious and deep. The interior is decorated like a rustic courtyard, with eclectic collections of kitchenware forming design elements--think a framed wall of wine corkscrews, painted ceramic plates hung in framed rows above the kitchen pass-thru, an ensemble of brass pots and pans draped across a wall along the stairs to the bathrooms upstairs. At 3pm on a Saturday, we were seated quickly with no wait, the restaurant only about a fifth full, and patrons mainly sitting outside to enjoy the warm weather. While it took a while to get menus, staff was formal and professional, taking drink orders and providing answers to our questions on dishes. We ordered the following; which came in decent-sized portions: - POLPO ALLA CATALANA €27 Octopus Catalana Style: tender octopus with potatoes, tomatoes, red onions, delicious though could've used a little more octopus for the price. - BRUSCHETTA CON BURRATA, 'NDUJA E ALICI €9 Spicy, spreadable pork sausage, Burrata and Anchoves Bruschetta. Fresh and savory, with a nice crunch from the bread crust, and a nice briny kick with the anchovy. it was one large piece which we tried to cut and share. - TRIPPA ALLA ROMANA €22 Roman tripe with tomato sauce and mint: tender, well-flavored tripe, could tell it was fresh. Glad I tried this classic Roman dish! A lot of tripe to finish in one sitting, even with three people. - OSSOBUCO ALLA ROMANA €28 Veal shank with tomato sauce, beans and pure: meat was perfectly cooked, though with the mashed potatoes and baked beans the overall texture if the dish was just very soft and a little one-note. - TIRAMISÙ TRADIZIONALE "ALLA RAMPA" DAL 1973 €11 Their traditional recipe since 1973: while we weren't sure why the cream on top was yellow, this dessert was fairly light and fluffy, a tasty tiramisu. - Hugo spritz X4 €9(?) each: they were having these and Aperol spritzes on happy hour so we ordered a few. Decent renditions here and the sweetness of the elderflower was enjoyable and not too cloying on a warm afternoon. Service was cordial and the restaurant was organized. Both my husband and I had pasta as the main - I had a sausage and zucchini flowers sauce which was a little heavy on the sausage for me (I tend to prefer veggie heavy dishes) and my husband's pasta with a fresh chanterelle mushroom sauce was a 10 out of 10 for both of us.
