Really fantastic. Absolutely recommend. The location is super cute, with nice ambiance, and easily accessible off Sunset, with a lot and plenty of local street parking. The service was prompt and friendly. The food was phenomenal. Absolutely devoured, and will definitely be back for more!

    so freaking yummy

This is the best Indian Restaurant I have been to since I've been in LA. The portions and prices are unmatched. The presentation is so picture perfect. I went with a few friends, and I loved it so much I'm going back with my brother and fiancé and twins. The Service was on point as well, we didn't even wait long.

Friendly owner & the food is decent here but portions of each item seems smaller than it used to be, every A La Carte item is sufficient for just 1 person which is a little disappointing !!!

Chicken tikka masala, rice, Raita, vegetable of the day, lentil, naan, lamb korma.

Terrible Indian food. No flavor whatsoever. The chicken tikka masala was basically soup. They watered down the curry that it was pure liquid. The lamb korma was not good either. It wasn't as soupy consistency but no flavor. Do not order from here. It's terrible. Almost inedible.

I was craving a coconut curry, so I ordered the green coconut curry with chicken -- spicy. It was very flavor, and so was the garlic naan.

Okay. Not the best. Won't come back just because other Indian joints are better. Price was pretty reasonable though

In addition to biryani, this South Asian spot makes hearty Pakistani dishes with bold spices and an emphasis on tender meat. Hyderabadi Lamb Biryani: This biryani is a magical blend of basmati rice, spices, onions, ghee, and lamb shank. The soft and luscious lamb meat easily flakes off the giant bone. The separate ingredients are beautifully layered together so the flavors are distinct and complementary. The warm spices provide great depth of flavor. On the side is a cool and creamy mint chutney. Nihari: Large tender beef shanks are slowly braised in a vibrant spice blend with onions, garlic, and ghee. The soft gelatinous connective tissue throughout the succulent meat is delicious coated in the rich and meaty stew. Tear chunks off the large chewy naan and form pockets filled with beef and gravy. Top it with raw onions, cilantro, ginger slivers, and a squeeze of lemon juice. The condiment plate here didn't have any chili peppers, but there was a little heat in the dish. Chicken Curry: Large chunks of boneless chicken thighs and potatoes are stewed in onions, tomatoes, and spices. The curry is thick and flavorful. Ordering: The friendly owner is happy to explain the dishes and offer recommendations. After you order your main dishes, you can grab beverages from the fridge or samosas from the case. When you're done eating, you pay at the register.

If you're wondering whether Anarkali is worth a visit, here's my perspective: I've been eating here…read moresince 1999, and after all those years, it's still the standard by which I judge every other Indian restaurant. I've had Indian food across the United States and in many different parts of India itself. I wasn't expecting my favorite to remain a restaurant on Melrose after all that traveling, but here we are. Nothing else has topped it. Anarkali is woven into the story of my wife and me. One of our earliest dates was here. Soon it became a weekly tradition, then twice a week. We were scraping together every dollar we could to buy our first house, but Anarkali always made the budget. Some things are necessities! The saag paneer is my forever favorite: pillowy-soft cubes of paneer in a velvety spinach gravy that's earthy, aromatic, and bursting with layers of spice. Every bite feels comforting and vibrant at the same time. The chicken tikka masala is just as memorable. Tender pieces of marinated chicken in a luscious tomato-based sauce that's tangy, smoky, creamy, and packed with layers of flavor. We order everything at the HOT spice level, which leaves us with a blissful spice buzz endorphin rush that lingers long after the meal is over. Throw in buttered naan, samosas, fragrant basmati rice, the carrot soup, and finish with their cool, creamy rice pudding, and you've got one of my favorite meals OF ALL TIME. The owner and staff have always treated us with genuine warmth. After so many years, that's become as much a part of the experience as the food. We moved away from Los Angeles years ago, but every trip back starts the same way: we find time for Anarkali. Some traditions are too good to give up.

(Take-out: 03/07/26)…read more IN SHORT: Beyond exceptional - phenomenal - sensational. My take-out was popadoms, mango pickle, carrot pickle, garlic basil naan, mulligatawny soup, chicken buna, chicken balti, fried rice. PROS: insanely delicious and authentic Indian cuisine, succulent tender & crumbly chicken (100% very fresh white meat), melt in the mouth awesomeness, the freshest of spices & ingredients, with exceptionally-good service - top notch, lovely staff. In short, the BEST Indian cuisine I have ever had in Los Angeles. You will NOT regret this choice of restaurant, I guarantee. CONS: Almost none, but I would say the poppadoms were advertised as 4, but were more like 2 - difficult to tell since they come in broken pieces in a small brown paper bag (for take-out); also, the garlic basil naan was a little too 'doughy' for my personal liking, but that's just me - no biggie whatsoever - it was still fabulous. Limited parking on the lot, but street parking all around in the historical neighborhood of sweet Los Feliz. Inside, the main restaurant is medium-sized (cosy & intimate, certainly not cramped) and totally gorgeous - plush decor, terrific ambience, high-class romantic vibes, perfect lighting and music, with very pleasant seating booths for parties of four, and the some additional tables for two. Great choice for a date night. SPICE LEVEL ADVISORY: I had requested my two curry dishes as spice level 'hot', and they really were at the top-end of my tastebud limits (I am a very experienced curry diner from Manchester, England, where hot really does mean hot!) - both dishes were truly out-of-this-world (no exaggeration), but they really blew my socks off - in a good way. Can't imagine having spice level 'very hot' as I'm sure that would be WAY too much for me to handle. But, you on the other hand, should totally go for it - if you dare! :-) In conclusion, I was literally blown-away by this wonderful restaurant - both metaphorically and gastronomically. Thank you to the lovely lady and her brother who made this, my first try-out, unforgettable. From this day forward, my 'go-to' Indian restaurant without hesitation. Finally, I found you! :-)
