I first wandered into this office a little over three years ago when I moved to Arizona, fresh out of California and completely baffled by my own jaw. I had seen countless dentists and doctors who all assured me I didn't have TMJ--yet none of them could explain why my jaw, shoulders, and neck were staging a full-scale war against me. I have been incredibly fatigued the last few years. It would take me an hour to wake up in the morning and I would crash every afternoon. I actually called in to move my annual CPAP evaluation to Agave and Wendy told me about the oral appliance. I was somewhat skeptical at first however Dr. Hamann and staff were very kind amd walked me through the process. I've gone from wearing a somewhat effective Resmed CPAP to the oral appliance with very little issue in the transition. Having Sleep Apnea has been a difficult journey. I originally was recommended to sleep with the famous CPAP. It had a hose on it much like a vacuum and a device over the mouth/nose to make it work. It was impossible to sleep well considering I was a side and stomach sleeper. After complaining to my GP doctor, she suggested I go to Agave Sleep & Wellness to try the Avant Dental device. Having used it over a year, I recently requested a sleep test to determine if it has worked for me. Today I found up that compared to when I was on the CPAP my score had been 25 and it had gone down to 9. What a relief it is! Did you know that up to 50% of patients prescribed a CPAP machine aren't using it 12 months later? I have to give the highest compliments to Agave Sleep and Wellness. I had a really hard time finding someone who was really well versed in jaw issues and didn't immediately recommend invasive procedures. My very first visit I was beyond happy. Dr. Hamann did a thorough examination including checking muscle tenderness around my head and neck. She explained everything really well and gave me a thorough treatment plan and clear instructions to get relief while waiting for my appliance to come in. For the first time in literal years I can eat without my jaw clicking and I no longer need my fiance to rub my neck every night (just don't tell him that part) Even better is the office made every effort to be very affordable, tmj treatment can be very expensive and I never felt like they were pushing things I didn't need or billing insurance in a word way. I just want to recommend Agave Sleep and Wellness practice at 4235 N 32nd St Suite A, Phoenix, AZ 85018. I have had sleep apnea for years. When it was diagnosed 10 years ago, I decided to bypass the CPAP treatment option in favor of using an oral appliance made especially for me and used nightly. It is like a night guard or mouth piece football players wear. It has worked VERY WELL. My sleep apnea has improved greatly. When I needed a new appliance a year ago, I changed my provider to Agave Sleep and Wellness. Dr. Hamann and Elizabeth and Wende have made the process SO EASY AND ACTUALLY ENJOYABLE. They are all very professional. My new appliance fits beautifully. Their customer service is exceptional. By the way, if you have sleep apnea and would like to try getting an oral appliance, you need to see a specialist dentist. If you happen to have Medicare as your insurance, it will pay for the appliance IF YOU GO TO A PRACTICE that accepts Medicare and knows how to submit your claim. Agave Sleep and Wellness is expert at that process. I was just there yesterday and decided that I shouldn't keep this practice a secret. Most folks who have sleep apnea diagnosed just go with the CPAP because insurance covers it and they don't know that there's another choice and the CPAP providers are pretty aggressive. The sleep apnea oral appliance, even though provided by specialist dentists, is considered MEDICAL equipment and a MEDICAL issue---NOT A DENTAL ISSUE. That's why Medicare will cover it IF you go to the specialist dentist who does this. This is just for information.
