    Over 11hrs of straight sleeping
    Leslie R.

We can't express how thankful we are to have had Desiree during the newborn stage. 2 of my mama friends recommended Desiree and they SWORE by her. They said it was a MUST to hire her and so I did. Our baby boy was very tiny, weighing only 5.9lbs at birth so with Desiree's guidance and clearance from our pediatrician we had him gain weight first before starting sleep training. We originally wanted to start at 4 weeks but started him at 6 weeks old when he gained enough weight. Desiree KNOWS what she is doing. The first few 2 days were really tough, but the results came rolling in quick after that. Desiree was so confident she could help get our boy to sleep 12 hours within 4 weeks time and she did just that! By 8 weeks old he slept over 10hrs. By 9 weeks old he was sleeping over 11hrs. By 10 weeks old we got our little guy to 12hrs! Let me tell you... it is amazing. So many of our friends, family, and coworkers are shocked that our little guy is sleeping 12 hours through the night. Some don't believe it... Most have never heard of newborn sleep training or say that they "sleep trained" their baby at 6 months old... Desiree got us there by 10 weeks old!! Now my husband and I can enjoy dinner and relaxation together after our baby boy is sleeping soundly. Her schedule just makes sense. There's no guess work, you and your baby will learn the schedule and stick to it. It is especially good for those who have a type A personality and need structure. My husband works 12hour shifts so his sleep is so crucial and I work as an eye doctor and cannot be tired at work for my patients. This has been a life saver for us. I have been raving to everyone about Desiree's sleep training! If you're going to be first time parents or if you're a parent struggling with getting your baby to sleep, you need Desiree, don't even think twice. Additionally, I had to leave our baby at home with my husband while I flew out overnight for a funeral. Because of our strong sleep schedule, I had zero worries leaving my husband with our baby... All my family members asked me "wow you left your husband with the baby, aren't you worried?" And I said, nope! Our baby is sleep trained and my husband knows exactly what the schedule is. What's so great is that Desiree checks in on you throughout the day. She gives your reassurance and guidance hour by hour. It also helps that both you and your partner are in the group chat so that everyone is on the same page with updates and changes to the sleep schedule. It is so great to have someone guiding you through the newborn stage. Desiree is truly heaven sent! Thank you so much Desiree. We will call you again once we have our second baby....which might not be long since my husband always jokes he's ready for our second baby already since we know we can sleep train!

I cannot say enough good things about Desiree and her system of getting a baby to sleep through the night. I had read so many books on sleeping for my 3 month old and nothing compared to her advice. She made little tweaks to what we were already doing and BAM my little boy is sleeping 12 hours at night and 11/2 hour naps. Thank you for giving me my sanity back!!!

My wife and I recently had twins. For those of you without experience with twins, it's unbelievably rewarding, but also unbelievably challenging. We hired Elite Baby services based on the recommendation of three very close friends. They said if there was one thing to do, it was to hire Desiree and follow her program. They were adamant about this and let me tell you that they were right. Desiree came to our house when our twins were only 5 weeks old. By the time she left THAT DAY, after a very engaging and thorough consultation three hours later, our babies were already sleeping better! This is not an exaggeration. We're now 6 weeks 4 days old and our baby girl slept from 10pm until 7am last night! It's honestly mind blowing how well and how quickly the program works. Desiree was there for us every step of the way and you can tell her experience is like none other. She's amazing to work with and truly changed our lives. This program 100% works and if there was one piece of advice for new parents - make the investment and hire Desiree. It's the best thing our family has done since our babies came into the world. Thank you, Desiree!

If you are looking for a baby sleep whisperer look no further. My 5 month old was already sleeping 10'hrs stretches at night with one or two decent naps, but was still fussy and not a consistent schedule which is tough when you have other kids and a life to go about. Desiree was highly recommend by a bunch of moms on a FB group so I got in touch and she responded 11pm on a weekend and got me on the her schedule right away. Her method truly works you got to trust her and stick to it to reap the awesome benefits. It took us one day and my baby slept 12 hrs and two naps almost 2 hrs each and another 30 mins nap. During her wake up time she was content and didn't fuss as much as she use to. Desiree was in continuous touch to answer all questions and concerns through out the entire process. My baby is now sleeping alone without me having to go in and put the pacifier in every time she spits it out, what a difference! I can't recommend her enough. Schedule your apt today!

Desiree is a baby whisperer! She knows exactly what your baby needs and how to get them to sleep through the night. My 7 month old had regressed to waking up every 40 minutes. We were dying! Desiree came and the first night my son was in his crib for 12 hours! By night 4, there was a minute of crying and 12 hours of sleeping. My husband and I have our nights back. My baby is thriving and happy. We have a daily schedule that works like clockwork. We could be more grateful. Worth every penny!

Hi there. I'm struggling with many things - 7 wks baby only naps when held during the day and won't sleep in the crib/bass @ night. Is that something you'd be able to help with? If I chose a package but need more time with you, could I pay hourly?

I have a 5 month old that wakes about every three hours at night, I feel like I've done everything but nothing seems to help. Do you offer in person overnight sleep training?

I am not doing overnights at the moment, but I can assure you that we can resolve your baby’s sleep issues. Just give me a shout. I’d be happy to help. 623-329-1105

My 12 month old has never slept through the night, And due to our current limited living space he still is in our room for the next 6 months, would sleep training be possible even with having him in the same bedroom?

Hello! Thank you so much for reaching out. We can absolutely get your baby sleeping through the night, even if you cosleep. That will be no problem at all!

Do you provide services for our of state families via phone consult?

    Yes, I sure do!

My 5 week old wakes every 3-4 hours for feeds day and night. She goes back to sleep after feeds easily. I would like to train her to sleep longer stretches at night for when I return to work in a month. Is this something that is possible?

You bet! We can likely have her sleeping 12 hours by then! Feel free to call me if you’d like to move forward! Thank you.

Is a three week old newborn too young to start looking into these services? She actually sleeps 3-4 hour stretches at night but I dread bedtime because it takes hours of hysteria to actually get her to fall asleep.

Hi Sierra. Great question! It’s actually the most ideal time to start implementing the schedule and routine! This helps to create great sleep associations and, depending on her weight, we can start implementing SOME sleep conditioning, as well.

She is clearly knowledgeable and experienced, and I am thankful for the role she played in my birth. During transition and pushing, she offered guidance and support that was helpful in those intense final hours. I do believe she understands birth well and brings expertise to the room. That said, there were a few things that did not sit right with me. At multiple points during contractions, when I looked up, she was visibly on Facebook and Instagram. I understand that long labors can involve downtime, but she was only physically present at the hospital for a few hours during transition and pushing. Given the relatively short window of in person support, it felt disappointing and inappropriate that she was on social media during that time. It made me feel like she was not fully present in such a vulnerable moment. There were also moments where her reactions felt disproportionate, such as when the toilet water unexpectedly splashed up. Her response heightened the situation rather than helping me feel grounded and calm. In addition, I found the overall value of the package to be underwhelming compared to other doulas I interviewed. Many offered formal childbirth classes (which were extra through MM) and ongoing support groups as part of their services, whereas Modern Mama primarily offered monthly mini classes on rotating topics, which did not always feel directly relevant or comprehensive. For the investment, I had expected more structured education and support. Though I was appreciative of the nice photos that were included. I am grateful for her knowledge and the role she played in helping bring my baby into the world, but I do wish the level of presence, professionalism, and overall value had been stronger throughout the experience. I likely won't hire Modern Mama again although I don't have experience with the other doulas.

As first time parents, we found that we didn't have a true understanding of what was best to do once we brought our little guy home from the hospital. Sure - we had read a lot and had additional support to help us get ready, but with Modern Mama, we found a professional who specializes in exactly what we needed - "what does good look like?" / "what should we be doing?" / "what are we doing right/ wrong?" From the moment that Kristin walked into our door, we were met with a calm and welcoming presence that shared recommendations for getting to sleep, eat, and dressed appropriately. She shared with us what most parents do and what is truly a choice for us. What's more, she was an incredible support for my wife who was breastfeeding for the first time, encouraging her and helping her to establish appropriate techniques and set her up with pumping appropriately, which would have taken us weeks without the support. Lastly, Kristin also followed up with us multiple times after the nights that she had stayed, seeing how we were doing and following up with great resources tied to the questions that we had + other professionals that could help with some of the areas that we were looking to develop. We'd highly recommend the support from Modern Mama and specifically Kristin as a doula for and first time parents - I truly believe they were a primary reason for us to start off on the right foot at home. (For reference, we had the 3 night package for the first couple of nights at home)

I've seen proof that by communicating with your baby via sign language, it will allow babies to communicate their needs before they can speak. As a result, this will reduce frustration for parent and child, accelerate verbal development (since you speak and sign at the same time), and enhance bonding. Thanks to my friend Lori for setting up a small group series of level 1 classes, I met Crystal Ashworth, the owner and certified My Smart Hands Instructor, this past week. She was professional and very patient with our group (which included smart asses such as my husband and babies from 5 months - 9 months in age, some of them on the fussy side during class). I love the set-up of the class which incorporates plenty of repetition, songs, trick to remember certain signs, a manual to follow along, and a CD. We'll need to practice at home, but we already walked away with a handful of ASL signs that we use daily such as more, eat, thank you, please, milk, all done, dog, mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, girl, boy, baby, happy, grumpy, and the letters of the alphabet. In addition, I just found that there is an entire My Smart Hands dictionary available online with videos to show parent and baby how to sign certain words. I'm already looking forward to class number two and hopefully advancing to level 2 classes eventually as well!

Other courses in the valley are larger scale classrooms with more students where you won't get as involved and you may as well watch a video online for free. I have to say when I talked to Maggie about how the structure was and if we cooked or helped, I was happy to hear that her response was "oh, I give you an intro and sample how to make things but you're doing the prep and the cooking." She gave an intro that is great for beginners and culinary experts alike. Pay attention during her review of recipes though, because the rest of the class will be sharing your dish when you are done preparing it. The kitchen environment allowed for plenty of room for six people in our class to both cook and move around safely as well as plenty of preparation knives, cutting boards, measuring and mixing bowls, A beautiful set of all clad cookware and a gorgeous Viking 6 top gas grill. TL;DR - Lack of communication, unprofessional behavior, petty conduct, limited to the school's director Adam. Teachers are great. Long form: We brought our daughter to Global Minds in November of 2021 and things were great right up until two weeks ago. She loved the school, made friends, and we got to know many of the parents. There were some problems, like their seeming inability to answer the phone or call us back, but we were willing to overlook that for the sake of our daughter's happiness and the fact that she was learning both Mandarin and Spanish. Also, we really liked how the parents all formed a tight-knit community. Recently, my wife and I got COVID while traveling out of state (we are fully vaccinated). We attempted to contact Adam via phone on 3 separate occasions to inform him that our daughter would not be at school when we returned, and to receive guidance about what we needed to do before bringing her back. No one ever answered, nor did they return my calls. This lack of answering phone calls is a problem that goes back about six months, with only one of my phone calls being answered in all of that time. I was told multiple times by teachers that they would tell ownership about the problem. Adam finally responded to an email my wife sent several days earlier, telling us that we could bring our daughter back to school when she was feeling well. No other guidance was provided beyond that. There was no mention of a need for a negative test prior to her return. Current CDC guidelines are that children who are asymptomatic may return to school 5 days after exposure to someone who is COVID-positive. We waited until the 8th day to bring her back. She was never symptomatic. In the absence of any guidance from Global Minds other than the email we received telling us to bring her back when she was feeling well, we followed CDC guidelines and brought our daughter back to school. When I brought her back to school, I was told that I could not leave her there without a negative COVID test. I was a bit annoyed, since we had tried to call them multiple times for exactly this reason, and no one bothered to answer the phone or call us back. Adam's email also said nothing about a negative test. So, I said it was fine if she can't stay, but I was a bit annoyed that no one had bothered to give us any guidance before drop-off that morning. Chi (Adam's wife) called him and asked what to do, and he apparently said it was okay to leave my daughter there because Chi changed her mind and said it was fine. Fifteen minutes later, Adam called me on my cell. His behavior on that phone call was beyond the pale. As an adult, I have never experienced the level of disrespect he showed me over the phone that day. I could barely get a word in, in fact I think I said maybe 5 words in total. When he was done chewing me out, he demanded that I pick my daughter up immediately, and then hung up on me. I couldn't believe it. I went to the school and got my daughter and later sent Adam an email, addressing his disrespectful phone call, lack of guidance, sudden change of heart, and their habit of not answering phone calls or returning messages. One week later, Adam sent me an email and said he "found a lot of truth in my words" and offered to apologize in person the following day. I showed up to the school as he suggested, and was told by his wife that he was not there, nor was he planning to be there that day or the next. She had no idea about our meeting. I emailed him again, and asked what happened, giving him the benefit of the doubt. He offered no apology. He said, "My intent was to be at school on Monday and Tuesday, but I had some showings of properties and some meetings that popped up that kept me away." Obviously, he has more important things to do than follow through on a meeting he proposed with a parent at his school. Given the lack of communication, unprofessional conduct, and the fact that Adam seemed to be deliberately misleading me to waste my time, my wife and I made the extremely difficult to tear our daughter away from her school and friends, and enroll her elsewhere. When I informed Adam that I would be removing my daughter from his school, I received an email response one week later that simply said, "Turd." See the attached screenshot. This behavior is unbecoming any adult, let alone one who is entrusted with the care of children. I think it is important that anyone who is interested in taking their children to Global Minds know what they can expect from the director before enrolling. I don't know if any other parents have had a negative experience with Adam. Before these events transpired, I would have said that everything at the school was great. But, given what I experienced with Adam, I wouldn't recommend Global Minds to anyone.

We are sharing our experience below in hopes that the owner of Global Minds will seriously consider…read morehow unpleasant and unprofessional he can be with parents . After seeing some of the prior reviews and speaking to other parents regarding their interactions with him, we learned that our extremely negative interaction was not isolated, but rather part of a toxic, dismissive, and volatile behavior set. Before we talk about our experience with the owner, we would like to praise the teachers and support staff. We found them to be energetic and polite. They were engaged and nurturing with our child. We'd like to compliment them. Now we will continue with the owner. First, we started to notice something strange when we wanted to speak with our child's instructors via text or email. This is prohibited. Strange. Our intention was to glean feedback and/or insights how to best help our child progress with Mandarin. We were told communication with instructors was only possible in person and after the owner personally set the meeting up. That raised a red flag. Due to our jobs, our family has lived in multiple states over the past few years and we've accumulated a fair amount of experience with preschools. Let us tell you, this is NOT the norm. When we were told that, it made us think that something is being hidden. Why in the world could we not speak with our child's instructor unless it was 'pre-vetted' by the owner? We got suspicious so we started asking around. As a member of the Chinese community and native mandarin-speaker, I reached out to the community only to find a strong negative narrative about the owner. At first, it seemed odd that he was described as angry and volatile as we never really observed that, but, then again, we had never really interacted for more than a couples minutes with him at any given time. Only after a shocking, and, frankly, disturbing meeting with the owner did we realize this is a very accurate description. This all started because we had a question about a school policy. The owner, instead of answering the question over the phone, insisted on meeting at the preschool to talk. Honestly, we didn't think anything of it and came to the preschool very casually. Our expectation was that our meeting was going to be pleasant and informative as the owner arranged it. You can imagine our surprise when the owner started to shake with anger and speaking obscenities to us. We were literally stunned, and, honestly, scared. We had absolutely no idea that such a volatile and unprofessional person was running the school. That day was our child's last. Again, we don't want to bash the school as there are many capable and caring teachers, but we do hope the owner will mature as a person. It is completely unacceptable to us to enroll our child in a school that is ran by someone that struggles with anger management issues. We had a simple question about a policy that could've been handled with maybe two or three sentences, but instead blew up into an owner meltdown. Please grow in professionalism and learn to lead in a respectful and dignified manner.

So, about 10 weeks before I was due I started the search for another doula and came across both Lora, and Chelsea, individually. I contacted them and they let me know they had recently teamed up and were available. We had a zoom call with them and my husband and I decided to book them for our August birth. Chelsea & Lora came for a home visit in June, so we could meet them and discuss initial ideas about my labor/birth/etc. They both brought their individual strengths and so much knowledge. They then came back a few weeks before I was due to discuss plans for when i went into labor, comfort measures, etc. They were both there any other time my husband and I had a question throughout the whole process as well. I had a long, long (44 hour) labor and we (mainly my husband) were in contact with Chelsea/Lora the entire time. About 22 hours in, once the pain had gotten pretty bad, Lora came to our house at 8pm. She quietly supported us and helped get through the contractions. At midnight, Chelsea swapped in so Lora could get some rest. Chelsea encouraged me to keep moving and try different things to help progress labor. When we thought it was time to go to the birth center, Chelsea came with us. When I finally ended up being admitted, Lora was the doula who ultimately joined us at the birth center- and spent over 12 hours there with us. I had mentioned during one of our previous meetings that I would love it if the doula who was present could snap some pictures during the day of labor/birth- I wasn't looking for anything too fancy or professional but just wanted some iphone pics. Lora went above and beyond, using her own camera to take lots of pictures and a video of the birth- which we haven't seen yet but are so excited for! Both Lora & Chelsea truly went above and beyond, and are a perfect complementary team. They came for a 2 week postpartum visit and it felt like having friends over to meet the baby- we cannot recommend them and their services enough & will definitely be using them for baby 2!
