When it came time to put my first born into preschool I was SUPER hesitant. I didn't need childcare and we lived near a playground where she socialized with kids every day and she went to the children's museum multiple times a day, but my husband wanted the structure. My hesitation came from not knowing what's happening with my kids for multiple hours a day. My first born is also super shy and quiet so I was scared that if something happened she wouldn't speak up. We toured multiple preschools and it was my gut that lead me to chose Global Minds. The school is bright and colorful, the owner and teachers were so friendly that they seemed like they could be my family or best friends at least so I was sold! But when it came to day 1, I was so nervous that I made husband stay around the school the WHOLE time she was in school her first day (luckily she only did half day at the time so he only wasted 4 hours ). That was 5 years ago and we have had 2 kids go through this school and I am sad when they're done. But mine both went/go to the academy portion of the school because we love it so much. Now the language portion...I am Chinese and came to the US when I was 6, so prior to 6 I was only exposed to Chinese and did not have any formal training in Chinese till I was in college but I grew up living with my Chinese speaking only grandparents and I currently speak enough Chinese to have a casual conversation. So this was my benchmark - I needed to expose my kids to as much language as possible till they were at least 6 so they can have some hope of being able to have casual conversations. I LOVE that this school's teachers are native language speakers and strictly talk to the kids in their native language and they reward kids for talking to each other in the language. Now, don't worry if you don't speak either Chinese or Spanish and you're afraid that your kid won't understand, kids are super resilient they will figure it out. If you think about it, to a toddler even some English is foreign!

TL;DR - Lack of communication, unprofessional behavior, petty conduct, limited to the school's director Adam. Teachers are great. Long form: We brought our daughter to Global Minds in November of 2021 and things were great right up until two weeks ago. She loved the school, made friends, and we got to know many of the parents. There were some problems, like their seeming inability to answer the phone or call us back, but we were willing to overlook that for the sake of our daughter's happiness and the fact that she was learning both Mandarin and Spanish. Also, we really liked how the parents all formed a tight-knit community. Recently, my wife and I got COVID while traveling out of state (we are fully vaccinated). We attempted to contact Adam via phone on 3 separate occasions to inform him that our daughter would not be at school when we returned, and to receive guidance about what we needed to do before bringing her back. No one ever answered, nor did they return my calls. This lack of answering phone calls is a problem that goes back about six months, with only one of my phone calls being answered in all of that time. I was told multiple times by teachers that they would tell ownership about the problem. Adam finally responded to an email my wife sent several days earlier, telling us that we could bring our daughter back to school when she was feeling well. No other guidance was provided beyond that. There was no mention of a need for a negative test prior to her return. Current CDC guidelines are that children who are asymptomatic may return to school 5 days after exposure to someone who is COVID-positive. We waited until the 8th day to bring her back. She was never symptomatic. In the absence of any guidance from Global Minds other than the email we received telling us to bring her back when she was feeling well, we followed CDC guidelines and brought our daughter back to school. When I brought her back to school, I was told that I could not leave her there without a negative COVID test. I was a bit annoyed, since we had tried to call them multiple times for exactly this reason, and no one bothered to answer the phone or call us back. Adam's email also said nothing about a negative test. So, I said it was fine if she can't stay, but I was a bit annoyed that no one had bothered to give us any guidance before drop-off that morning. Chi (Adam's wife) called him and asked what to do, and he apparently said it was okay to leave my daughter there because Chi changed her mind and said it was fine. Fifteen minutes later, Adam called me on my cell. His behavior on that phone call was beyond the pale. As an adult, I have never experienced the level of disrespect he showed me over the phone that day. I could barely get a word in, in fact I think I said maybe 5 words in total. When he was done chewing me out, he demanded that I pick my daughter up immediately, and then hung up on me. I couldn't believe it. I went to the school and got my daughter and later sent Adam an email, addressing his disrespectful phone call, lack of guidance, sudden change of heart, and their habit of not answering phone calls or returning messages. One week later, Adam sent me an email and said he "found a lot of truth in my words" and offered to apologize in person the following day. I showed up to the school as he suggested, and was told by his wife that he was not there, nor was he planning to be there that day or the next. She had no idea about our meeting. I emailed him again, and asked what happened, giving him the benefit of the doubt. He offered no apology. He said, "My intent was to be at school on Monday and Tuesday, but I had some showings of properties and some meetings that popped up that kept me away." Obviously, he has more important things to do than follow through on a meeting he proposed with a parent at his school. Given the lack of communication, unprofessional conduct, and the fact that Adam seemed to be deliberately misleading me to waste my time, my wife and I made the extremely difficult to tear our daughter away from her school and friends, and enroll her elsewhere. When I informed Adam that I would be removing my daughter from his school, I received an email response one week later that simply said, "Turd." See the attached screenshot. This behavior is unbecoming any adult, let alone one who is entrusted with the care of children. I think it is important that anyone who is interested in taking their children to Global Minds know what they can expect from the director before enrolling. I don't know if any other parents have had a negative experience with Adam. Before these events transpired, I would have said that everything at the school was great. But, given what I experienced with Adam, I wouldn't recommend Global Minds to anyone.

I could understand it, but I could not respond to questions or statements with any kind of fluency. I wanted to study abroad, but to do so I needed to get my oral skills up to par with my writing skills.             When I talked with Kyle he immediately understood the problem that I was having and told me that he went through a similar experience while he was at university. He was very understanding and patient, and answered all my questions making sure that I completely understood everything.  He told me that I would be working with Alex and that I would be doing so in 5-hour time periods 3 times a week.  At first I was very apprehensive about spending that much time with my brain in French mode, and I was worried that I would be mentally exhausted afterwards. However, they told me that I would be able to take a break every 45 minuets or whenever I felt that I needed it, and that I would be more than welcome to eat lunch with Alex if we talked in French. As it turns out, the 5 hours was not nearly as strenuous as I had originally believed it would be and it went by quickly. Alex kept things very entertaining and it was never too repetitive or dull.             When I returned to school that August, my French professor noticed the leaps and bounds of improvement that I had gained from doing this immersion program over the summer.  I was also no longer afraid to speak up in class and engage in conversation with my peers because the program at Berlitz raised my speaking confidence as well as my knowledge of the language. Everyone in the office is very helpful and kind, and they will be sure to get you where you need to/want to be. Everyone is very welcoming and always made me feel comfortable, as well as they were always available for assistance. It is a wonderful environment filled with genuine people that only want you to succeed.

We just finished our first season with CFAZ and feel like I can give a candid review…read more My daughter spent years doing gymnastics through various community/req style programs. Then a year or so through a satellite location of a major valley gymnastics gym. I could tell she was bored, and frankly...she was not progressing. After some research, we decided to try cheer. We went into the season with the intention of joining a non-travel, but during evaluations, the Coaches asked if we would consider putting our daughter on a more competitive travel team and we went for it! If you are new to the world of All-Star cheer as we were...it's super overwhelming at first. There is a significant time and financial commitment from families, however it is pretty well laid out up front in the parent handbook. I've learned in connecting with other Cheer parents (across state lines and other gyms) that this is generally what is to be expected of the sport and not specifically a CFAZ thing. That all being said, reflecting on this last year, my only regret is that we hadn't discovered this program and enrolled our daughter sooner!!! She has LOVED every minute from the very first pre-eval clinic, to the time she finished her last season's performance. YES-- the physical gains from this year are evident. She has grown in all aspects of the sport- but the real value is in the intangibles. Cheer has taught her the importance of team (which as an only child carries a lot of weight with us), discipline, and most of all...it has unlocked a confidence that we hadn't seen before. She (as well as WE) have met some wonderful new friends and families along the way. She has had the opportunity to work with many of the coaches at the gym either from her team, classes or private lessons and they all bring their own unique qualities to the program. If there is one negative to mention its that there is definitely a learning curve for new families. I think many families start in a Prep team to learn the ropes-- so perhaps it was just us jumping right in, but I did wish there was maybe a "All Star Cheer 101" for new families. But even putting that aside, you eventually figure it out. Tips for any new families considering joining this crazy world of All-Star Cheer-- We highly recommend CFAZ!! Recognize that the program's priority is focused around the kids-- not parents. Trust in the process- the coaches will see more of your kids' progress and abilities than you will. Don't be afraid to ask the questions if you have them and find some good veteran families to help fill in those educational gaps along the way.
