Small hole in the wall, converted house, cozy, quiet but echo-y, and amazing delicious food for a good price. Date had the big burrito with the mole. Gave it a try, holy crap amazing. Nastiest Mexican I ever had I think. Got the enchiladas the mole sauce was gross the rice was Dry no flavor the chicken and the steak had Zero flavor. Also order steak fajitas the steak had no flavor at all. I could only eat a couple bites it was so gross. And I ordered a strawberry margarita it was also flavorless and the used all fruit mixes instead of fresh fruit. The margarita was nasty and I could not even taste any tequila. My fiancé and I generally eat at Agave Azul every Friday night; needless to say it is awesome! We generally eat in the bar area and Fransisco is our usual server; he is awesome! My husband and I went here for lunch during the week. They don't serve chips and salsa, but give you a bean quesadilla instead. Entrees were delicious and good portions. Service wasn't very good, though. It seemed like there was only 1 employee, serving and cooking (but I could be wrong). Place is very small and looks like a small house from the outside. I drive by this little joint constantly - my sister lives a couple of blocks away and always raves about it. It's definitely tiny and can get packed easily. Last night, she came with me and I was pleasantly surprised. I had read the great reviews, so I knew I was in for something good. They don't give you chips when you arrive (which is a good thing, considering how I basically inhale those things) but they give you a plate of a warm tortilla with refried beans and some cheese. Light, simple, and really flavorful. I had beef fajitas, but the beef wasn't very flavorful. The onions and everything else was, but it was lacking. My sister ensures me that everything else is insanely flavorful and delicious. Also, I didn't get any drinks, but I saw margaritas go by me and they were about the size of my head. 4 stars for a little bit of slow service to begin with and not very flavorful fajita meat. Agave Azul - YUM... Juan was our server tonight, he was very kind and so eager to make us happy on our date night. The food was fast, hot and very good. My guy likes the chips and salsa that most Mexican restaurants offer, but this place offered a soft bean taco instead.... No chips for my man tonight! We ate plenty and were happy with our visit all around. My guy had Steak Fajitas & I had Pollo ala Cream (chicken with onions and mushrooms in a cream sauce) with beans and rice with a side of really good salsa. So happy hour is 3-7PM Sunday thru Thursday according to Juan. It was clean, quiet, and welcoming.... we will go back here again. read more

Probably the best Mexican cuisine in Gresham. Great deal on surf and turf, friendly service and they always seem to remember you. Some menu go-to's are the 'paseo por Mexico' this entree includes juicy carne asada, mouth-watering chile relleno and a savory enchilada. Some other items on the menu are the terrific tortilla soup, steak nachos, and al pastor sopes. Great bar with a tv and a bartender that makes some stiff drinks. Absolutely unacceptable service. We order 2 combinations and a chicken burrito for take out. They messed up each combination with the wrong order. Served smaller portions. About 1/4 cup of rice and beans, then a small tortilla for the enchilada I received. They repeated the order over the phone it was correct. During pick up it was not. I can see why my food only took 15 minutes to make. Disappointed. If you plan on having an evening out, go elsewhere and support a business who cares. The price for the value is awful. read more

I came here with my friend last night we've both never been here before so we didn't know what to expect, so I took to reviews prior to going and figured it must be kinda good so we tried something simple.... tacos like who messes up tacos right ? Well this place does we got both chicken and steak tacos, they charged us $4 a taco. In my head I figured it must be really good to be so expensive right?.... WRONG. They were dry and flavorless. The most exciting part of the tacos was the fact that they put a slice of avocado on them. So 10 tacos and 40 dollars later only two tacos were half way eaten and we ended up grabbing Taco Bell. The only thing stopping me from giving them 5 stars is my dish was listed at 12.95 on the menu and they charged us 13,95 with no explanation. We stopped by to try Agave Azul a few days ago and really enjoyed it. I had the "Paseo por Mexico" platter and my friend had carne asada. In my opinion, although the cost was a bit higher than other Mexican restaurants in the area, the food had AWESOME flavor (especially the carne asada) and the ingredients in both dishes seemed fresh and high-quality. My only complaint would be that they evidently only have tomatillo salsa. I'm not a fan of tomatillos, so it would be great if they offered a tomato-based salsa as an alternative. I got the carnitas plate and the meat was disgusting. The carnitas had so much fat that there was barely any actual meat on it. It was also very tasteless. im sad to report that my last 2 visits to agave azul have been really, really disappointing. we will not be returning. the service - what service? we sat in the lounge and were completely and totally ignored for at least 15 minutes. there were 2 other patrons in the bar. we waited over 20 minutes after we ordered drinks to receive them. the bartender was busy watching soccer. our food took WAY too long to arrive and was nothing at all like we experienced on our first visit. overcooked, bland, tiny portions, and served by a server who was obviously completely overwhelmed by the scope of his job even though there were not more than 10 people in the entire restaurant. sorry guys... we tried and tried and then tried again but we will not be back. ps: if you happen to be a very young, very blonde (no offense- for real!) barely 20-something customer you will receive good and attentive service from the bartender. just a casual observation. read more

I moved to Gresham from Southern California and I have to say that this restaurant rivals the authentic mexican food of San Diego. My aunt and uncle introduced me to this quaint little house-turned-restaurant. Absolutely delicious! First off, instead of the traditional chips and salsa, they bring you a soft taco. Definitely original! I had a beef dish with mole sauce. I have shied away from Mexican sauces before and I'm not sure why, but this sauce was incredible! Spicy, yet chocolatey! I tried a little of everything from the rest of our party's plates. All of it was outstanding; the best Mexican food I have ever had.
