Great people, great food, and a great setting. The entire experience was wonderful and we would definitely come here again.

Many Inn keepers make you feel at home, but Tom and Carol make you truly feel like family. As I said before my wife and I stay at a lot of B&B's. We never stay in the same place more than once. We love to experience a new place each time. But this is our third stay here on our 10 day vacation in the UP. We kept coming back because we seriously missed this place, Tom, Carol, and of course Zeke their super well behaved and friendly dog. There is so much more here than just their beautiful home, the calming awe of their land, their incredibly friendly sheep, the acres and acres of trails they have on their land, the nice added touch of the sauna on the back porch, the wide open sky perfect for star gazing you usually get from the UP combine with being on a large acred farm, and of course Zeke! Carol and Tom are the heart and soul of this place. They are what make this house, a home. I could go on and on about how much we valued our stay. But like I said, I can not express enough how great this place is. To give you an idea of how much we love this place, my wife and I drove from Eagle Harbor to stay here one more night. Staying here will be one of the best memories of your trip.

Yup, telephone lines got taken down and all Newberry turned out for the show. Thirty years later Frank's and Cheryl's labor of love allows visitors a glimpse into the world of Newberry's lumber boom. Color jazzes up the house's once-white exterior, but it retains its historic charm. Much of the interior woodwork has been preserved. Lush gardens and an orchard grace the property. The rooms are comfortable, the ambiance welcoming, and I keep coming back.

Breakfast was tasty - peaches & cream french toast was good, but the sausage was different - not sure what kind of meat, but hubby and I didn't care for it. (Eggs with feta and spinach the first morning was fine, no meat that time.) The showers were a horrible experience. We stayed for 2 nights in the suite. Morning 1, the rain head shower in our suite trickled. Water only trickled out of half of the shower head. After several minutes (probably 5), it got hot, but then it was scalding hot and there was no way to cool it off. I turned the handle all the way to cold, and even waited - no change. Scalding hot. A guest in the single room with the bath down the hall was finished with his bathroom, so he offered his shower to us. We accepted (although I find it kind of icky to share with a stranger, I was desperate for a shower!). His shower was slightly more than a trickle, but certainly no pressure. I was able to regulate the temperature. I took a super quick shower and was done with it. Day 2 my hubby went to use the shower down the hall and came back un-showered. No pressure at all in there on this day. So I ended up washing my hair, shaving my legs, etc. in our bathroom sink (very shallow) and he attempted the trickling rain head in our shower. It was a joint effort. When the water became scalding, he had me turn on the hot in the sink (so less hot went into the shower). We adjusted that way a couple times and he was finished. Cheryl said they had a pressure regulator on order and she hopes that fixes the problem. The first day, her response was that the water issue was a "mystery." Our suite was also equipped with a 2 person jacuzzi tub, which is the reason I chose the suite in the first place. When we arrived, she showed us our room and the tub and said it's just a soaking tub now because the jets don't work. There was never any mention of this when I booked (I emailed, and had 3 phone conversations with them before we arrived). She did take off $20/night for the shower inconvenience, which I appreciated. I would give the place another try if I was assured the water was working, but I don't think I'm brave enough to get that far from home and find out we have no shower options!

That's the only semi-negative thing I will say about this place, The hotel is nice, the workers were nicer, the rooms were clean and the halls were quiet. The continental breakfast was pretty solid too. Bananas (finally! after 9 days in Michigan hotels, I was beginning to think there was a law against them) mini omelets, bagels, muffins, cinnamon rolls, turkey sausage and a pancake machine. The real star of this hotel is the back patio view. Sitting on their deck enjoying the views of Lake Superior while having a cold beverage is pretty amazing. The rooms with lake views have their own balconies or you can be a cheap ass like me and share the patio with the others.

The hot water was good. Water pressure was fine. The room's heat was welcome on the cold evening. Past the lobby the Inn has a nice seating area for breakfast. We found it to be a good spot to sit and eat food from town. The morning breakfast was busy both mornings. The staff did a good job keeping the coffee full and the food stocked. It was a nice money saver to not need to go out for breakfast in the morning. We opted for the cheaper room facing the parking lot. If I stayed here again, I would spring for a bay-side (Lakeview) room. We had a beautiful and bright sunrise over the bay. The staff was friendly.

On September 7th this year we stayed at the White Pine Lodge in Christmas, Michigan. Upon checki-in…read morewe were told nothing except the pool/hot tub was out of order. When checking out the next morning, there was a bedbug on a pillow. I was very discreet as I went to the front desk to let them know. It had already been a crappy morning because, unbeknownst to me, they had been without water for a week up until the day before our stay, their complimentary breakfast had no coffee, no juice, no meats or eggs, the waffle maker was broken, and though they also ran the attached convince store they wouldn't let you get that coffee without paying for it. The front desk person told a housekeeper of our situation then said they were calling the manager. After waiting half an hour because we were told the manager was on her way, we had to leave to make our next reservation. I made sure they had my contact info and was assured I'd be called. 7 hours later I called the lodge back and was told the manager, Amy, had left for the day. And that they didn't find anything else so she didn't know what management had decided about it. I asked to be called the next day and again nothing. So we went about our vacation. After returning to work from vacation I called the Sault Tribe in the U.P. who own the lodge. I was transferred to a woman named Jennifer and she listened to my situation. Then told me she was the wrong person to talk to and that I should be talking to Dan Doyle. She said she was going to email him about what I told her and CC me on that email. Never happened. It is now another week later and I called Dan Doyle to see what was going on. Had to leave a voicemail. It's been 3 days and nothing. Today I called the LMAS Health Department who is over that county. That lady said they can't do anything about bedbugs and I have to contact the owner Ok... soooooo.... the lodge basically said they didn't find any other bugs which likely means they didn't call an exterminator and just turned the room over. The management and owners don't seem to care and now neither does the health department. Mind you, I didn't ask for anything. Not a discount or refund. Nothing but to be contacted by management. They could have lied to me and said they fumigated the room, how would I know? But at least they would have appeared to give a shit. I will still file a complaint with the health department and BBB in Michigan so there is a paper trail and my conscious is clear. I just don't want any to get sick or take home bedbugs!!
