On September 7th this year we stayed at the White Pine Lodge in Christmas, Michigan. Upon checki-in we were told nothing except the pool/hot tub was out of order. When checking out the next morning, there was a bedbug on a pillow. I was very discreet as I went to the front desk to let them know. It had already been a crappy morning because, unbeknownst to me, they had been without water for a week up until the day before our stay, their complimentary breakfast had no coffee, no juice, no meats or eggs, the waffle maker was broken, and though they also ran the attached convince store they wouldn't let you get that coffee without paying for it. The front desk person told a housekeeper of our situation then said they were calling the manager. After waiting half an hour because we were told the manager was on her way, we had to leave to make our next reservation. I made sure they had my contact info and was assured I'd be called. 7 hours later I called the lodge back and was told the manager, Amy, had left for the day. And that they didn't find anything else so she didn't know what management had decided about it. I asked to be called the next day and again nothing. So we went about our vacation. After returning to work from vacation I called the Sault Tribe in the U.P. who own the lodge. I was transferred to a woman named Jennifer and she listened to my situation. Then told me she was the wrong person to talk to and that I should be talking to Dan Doyle. She said she was going to email him about what I told her and CC me on that email. Never happened. It is now another week later and I called Dan Doyle to see what was going on. Had to leave a voicemail. It's been 3 days and nothing. Today I called the LMAS Health Department who is over that county. That lady said they can't do anything about bedbugs and I have to contact the owner Ok... soooooo.... the lodge basically said they didn't find any other bugs which likely means they didn't call an exterminator and just turned the room over. The management and owners don't seem to care and now neither does the health department. Mind you, I didn't ask for anything. Not a discount or refund. Nothing but to be contacted by management. They could have lied to me and said they fumigated the room, how would I know? But at least they would have appeared to give a shit. I will still file a complaint with the health department and BBB in Michigan so there is a paper trail and my conscious is clear. I just don't want any to get sick or take home bedbugs!! I unfortunately made reservations for one night . I checked the reservation on my way there and it had a 3 PM check in time listed. I arrived at 3:30 and the gas station / convenience store clerk/ front desk manager informed me that check in time was 4. I mentioned that my reservation stated 3, she said that is done by a 3rd party and not accurate. I asked if I could still check in, and told in no uncertain terms, no. The place is attached to a gas station, it is a sorry looking dump. It was too late to cancel the reservation I was told so I decided to stay someplace else and eat the cost of the reservation. I was happy to travel up to Marquette and stay in a nice hotel, not happy with my experience at this soon to be closed trap. Mike read more

Just came up from Dallas, TX with my two best friends to stay with friends and family (40+ people) for the weekend. We were treated like children from the moment we got there. Being a flight attendant trust me I know it can be difficult to ensure that everyone is wearing a mask during these times. But the workers here were just rude and hateful towards us about the mask. There are ways to do it in a professional manner. This hotel, and the town's restaurants and small businesses definitely made sure that our group was not welcome in the area, and we will not be back. read more

We stayed over the weekend with 40+ people from Wisconsin. We were treated so poorly from the time we checked in until the time we left. The front desk ladies that we dealt with were very rude and unprofessional. Derogatory comments were made to our group throughout the weekend. Stephanie in particular who worked the breakfast room was the worst. She obviously hates her job and people. She called us f***ing tourists. Where do these employees think there paychecks come from? Housekeeping was accommodating. Maybe they should switch positions. All in all, every experience we had in Christmas, MI was unpleasant. The locals sure let us know we were not welcome and they don't like tourists bringing money in to there area. We won't be back. read more

Made a trek to the UP over labor day weekend and there was nothing available in Munising. Stayed over here and it was pretty nice. Nothing fancy but at the same time was mostly, staff was nice and the continental breakfast was ok. Breakfast was a little worse than a normal Holiday Inn Express but better than some other non chain hotels. Still close to town and a reasonable rate for the night. The front desk is also a gas station front desk with ice cream and a cooler of snacks. In the night it is nice to have that available right around the corner. read more

Bah humbug!! My stay here was very unpleasant and unwelcoming. We came to Christmas, Michigan to enjoy the trails with a large group of people and from the moment we got there the front desk staff seemed to be annoyed that we were there bringing them in tons of money. We had several encounters where the staff mumbled under their breath about us or blatantly disrespected us. Very poor customer service. The whole town seemed to not want anybody but locals there, although they survive off tourism. Do not recommend. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. I stayed here over the weekend with a group of 40 people and we all got treated so poorly by the staff. From the moment we got there the staff had the worst attitudes with us and were extremely disrespectful. Stephanie in particular, was the worst. She yelled at us and scolded us like children. It was insane. We were treated like a burden on our vacation. Extremely disappointing. Stayed at White Pine Lodge on Jul 13, 2019. We had stayed here a few years ago and that stay was enjoyable. This time however that was not the case. It appears that White Pine Lodge has gone "PET FRIENDLY". Our room smelled like a "WET Shar-Pei ". My knowledge of dogs, which is quite extensive, is that when one dog "Marks" all others --even months later will do the same. During checkout in the morning it appears like there were "MORE" dogs on our floor than people. BUT, it is a nice place if you you need a place to stay with your "COMFORT" dog. read more

So we were chasing the northern lights this past weekend and ended up at 3 am at White Pine Lodges and we were welcomed by a very friendly gentleman who helped us find a room. The lodges have a massive retail/grocery outlet inside which worked well for late night snacks. Our room was a very affordable two queen bed room, and it was STELLAR!. 5/5 for cleanliness and upkeep and the restroom was spotless too. Needless to say, we had an amazing stay. THIS is not even the best part. I accidentally forgot my Apple Watch under the bed, and when I called them after a few hours the woman told me, they had exactly what I was looking for, and had been trying to contact me. She was sweet enough to mail It to me, and when I called back a couple of days later, she even gave me the tracking number. Amazing service and stay! Would recommend 100%! read more

Absolutely Fantastic Lodge We had never been to Alger County previously, but we were looking for snow to ride our sleds. We're from Door County and no good snow yet. We researched and chose to stay at the White Pine Lodge to enjoy the trails during Christmas (12/22/19-12/26/19). Why not stay in Christmas for Christmas? Prior to even booking we had many questions regarding food options and destinations to visit via the various snowmobile trails due to the holiday. Michelle Ellis went above and beyond providing restaurant suggestions and hours and options right at the Lodge (crockpot, etc.) She discovered another option in the local paper and did not hesitate to send an email to provide the information. Overall, everyone was pleasant and very helpful. Our King Suite was spacious, and the log theme was perfect. We brought a mini Christmas tree and other festive items knowing a fridge and microwave was within our suite. There is an attached convenience store inside the Lodge carrying an eclectic mix of wants in case something was forgotten. The hot tub was clean, holds up to 16 people, soothing water temp for achy muscles and most welcome after a long day's ride. The bed was EXTREMELY comfortable for a great night's sleep, no need to toss and turn. The continental breakfast had various options to energize for the day. In addition, we could unload our sleds, park them for easy access to trail #7 and the attached gas station was an additional perk. We highly recommend White Pine and hope to be back again. read more

The husband and I wanted to make an impromptu stop in the UP during our honeymoon and were running out of options for places to stay. One hotel suggested we try White Pine. The women on the phone was so friendly and booked us for two nights with no problems. The lodge is pet friendly for an extra $25 per night and they are very upfront about this. When we arrived we see that after finding out it was our honeymoon, the women at the front desk had got us a bottle of wine, some chocolates, and wine glasses as a gift. Such a wonderful and thoughtful surprise! The lodge itself is centrally located to the Hiawatha Forest and the Panted Rocks. It's clean, roomy, and very reasonably priced. It is the most awful experience when I stay a night at this motel for the July 4th weekend . There is a huge bug jump to my leg when we sit on the couch. It really scared me and we asked to exchange a room but they just declined. When my husband checked the room again to make sure no other bugs, there is another about 3" large spider standing on the bed headboard!!! It is clearly how poor are their room's sanitary conditions!! We just spent a very awful night at the room. When we report this situation, they even didn't give us any apologize. Obviously they declined for any reimbursement and discount. In addition, no wifi in the room even they said they have free wifi. read more

This motel was our first experience with rude people in all three times we have visited the UP. There were two remotes for the TV and neither of them worked. I had to get the rude girl at the front desk to come fix it. They do not have a coffee maker in the rooms, the bathroom fan was LOUD, the door to the hall didn't close properly, the room key didn't work on the outside door, one of the pillows on my bed was dirty, the continental breakfast sucked. The Pair-A-Dice Inn no longer exists as the building was sold to new owners and renamed the White Pine Lodge. It is neat, clean, well run and reasonably priced. It is located next to the Casino in Christmas and Foggy's Steak House is across the street. read more
