Now this is a divey motel done right! Old school neon sign, charmingly retro during the day, gloriously sleazy and ominous at night, real room keys and not cards, $40 a night with cable, including HBO and wifi... the list goes on and I'm glad I got a verb in there cause my high school English teacher wouldn't like how that "sentence" started. I rolled into Munising dog tired, wondering if I should've called it a day in Marquette. Scotty's Motel to the rescue! It was clean and quiet with no bedbugs or Norman Bates to be found. The sweet old lady behind the front desk and the guy staying in the room next to me both got openly judgmental about me being from Detroit, but I just silently said "yea, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man", and sought to change their attitude by being a completely non-troublesome overnight lodger. The shower was much needed and I appreciated the bottle opener on the wall next to it, though my alcoholism is not currently in active mode. After my shower I hit up the drive thru at the Hardee's down the block, just before closing time, and good thing, too, cause I was famished. I settled in to watch some of the Winnipeg Jets playing that stupid Vegas expansion team, browsed the internet and fired off a few texts. The wifi was a welcome relief from the cellphone dead zone that I found the entire U. P. to be. The air conditioner worked fine, and they had an heavy duty old metal fan as back up, too. Scotty's is the real deal - an old mom and pop motel largely unaffected by the passage of time. I could totally see myself staying there again.

That's the only semi-negative thing I will say about this place, The hotel is nice, the workers were nicer, the rooms were clean and the halls were quiet. The continental breakfast was pretty solid too. Bananas (finally! after 9 days in Michigan hotels, I was beginning to think there was a law against them) mini omelets, bagels, muffins, cinnamon rolls, turkey sausage and a pancake machine. The real star of this hotel is the back patio view. Sitting on their deck enjoying the views of Lake Superior while having a cold beverage is pretty amazing. The rooms with lake views have their own balconies or you can be a cheap ass like me and share the patio with the others.

The hot water was good. Water pressure was fine. The room's heat was welcome on the cold evening. Past the lobby the Inn has a nice seating area for breakfast. We found it to be a good spot to sit and eat food from town. The morning breakfast was busy both mornings. The staff did a good job keeping the coffee full and the food stocked. It was a nice money saver to not need to go out for breakfast in the morning. We opted for the cheaper room facing the parking lot. If I stayed here again, I would spring for a bay-side (Lakeview) room. We had a beautiful and bright sunrise over the bay. The staff was friendly.

The hotel was dog friendly, clean, comfortable, and well-kept. The free breakfast was better than expected and gave us a good start each morning. Our room faced South Bay of Lake Superior, which made for a beautiful view -- especially at sunset (though you'll need a little patience, since the sun doesn't set until after 10 PM in the summer!). The location was convenient with lots of great activities nearby, making it easy to explore the area without driving too far. Overall, this hotel added comfort and relaxation to an adventurous trip. Would definitely stay again when passing through!

The price was high for a room with a lake view but their season is not very long so I understand. The location is good just a mile into town and a short drive to the western sights of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Park. The room was decent nothing fancy except for the nice balcony looking out to the lake. Unfortunately the strong north wind and cold front limited our ability to sit outside except for a short bit. Welcome to Lake Superior at the very end of May! The breakfast room was super tiny for such a big place and on a Sunday morning it was cramped and hard to move around. Overall it worked for us.

Room left a lot to be desired. Paid $200 for the smallest lakefront room and was not worth it. Bedding was clean; however, room was not and maintenance was poor. Cobwebs in most corners and up the walls behind doors, dirty coffee pot, coffee splattered on window sill. Weatherstripping separated from door and daylight coming through, pine trim not sealed before painted so the sap is coming through, drywall coming apart in multiple areas, shower caulk and drywall separated from the shower, 1/3 of the bathroom ceiling was patched and repainted leaving the rest to not match, sloppy painting and patch not painted. Had a frig and microwave but lacking typical amenities like iron, ironing board, alarm clock and outlets. Literally one outlet available and none by the bed. TV great for the deaf because ability to turn off closed captioning was disabled. See pics for examples. I'd suggest finding other lodging. Perhaps rooms other than 125 are better. While this is close to town, there is a motel and hotel in town that are comparable to the cute outside of Beach Inn Motel.

On September 7th this year we stayed at the White Pine Lodge in Christmas, Michigan. Upon checki-in…read morewe were told nothing except the pool/hot tub was out of order. When checking out the next morning, there was a bedbug on a pillow. I was very discreet as I went to the front desk to let them know. It had already been a crappy morning because, unbeknownst to me, they had been without water for a week up until the day before our stay, their complimentary breakfast had no coffee, no juice, no meats or eggs, the waffle maker was broken, and though they also ran the attached convince store they wouldn't let you get that coffee without paying for it. The front desk person told a housekeeper of our situation then said they were calling the manager. After waiting half an hour because we were told the manager was on her way, we had to leave to make our next reservation. I made sure they had my contact info and was assured I'd be called. 7 hours later I called the lodge back and was told the manager, Amy, had left for the day. And that they didn't find anything else so she didn't know what management had decided about it. I asked to be called the next day and again nothing. So we went about our vacation. After returning to work from vacation I called the Sault Tribe in the U.P. who own the lodge. I was transferred to a woman named Jennifer and she listened to my situation. Then told me she was the wrong person to talk to and that I should be talking to Dan Doyle. She said she was going to email him about what I told her and CC me on that email. Never happened. It is now another week later and I called Dan Doyle to see what was going on. Had to leave a voicemail. It's been 3 days and nothing. Today I called the LMAS Health Department who is over that county. That lady said they can't do anything about bedbugs and I have to contact the owner Ok... soooooo.... the lodge basically said they didn't find any other bugs which likely means they didn't call an exterminator and just turned the room over. The management and owners don't seem to care and now neither does the health department. Mind you, I didn't ask for anything. Not a discount or refund. Nothing but to be contacted by management. They could have lied to me and said they fumigated the room, how would I know? But at least they would have appeared to give a shit. I will still file a complaint with the health department and BBB in Michigan so there is a paper trail and my conscious is clear. I just don't want any to get sick or take home bedbugs!!
