This course was built in like 1955, so it is tight in a number of areas. Plenty of opportunities to lose golf balls as the are streams running all around the place and the rough is, well, the rough. One of the holes you have to walk out and see the hole out about 150 yards and guesstimate where you are going as you are about 80 or so feet above the green. A fun course with no frills and plenty of nice scenery. It appears the restaurant is only open certain times of the year as it was closed when I went here. Nice pro shop with friendly help. Give this one a try, but bring plenty of extra balls!

Fun design for a fair price, just east of Newport. I was in the area and having a tough time…read morefinding a public track on the lower end of the budget. Then I found Olalla Valley. Although there are a few 9 hole courses in the area, Olalla Valley seems to have the most elevation changes. Many of the holes are unique and do not just run back and forth along one piece of land. The lack of bunkers and water hazards (other than the occasional creek crossing) make it playable for golfers of higher handicaps as well. Although it's not as GREEN as some courses, golf isn't supposed to be perfectly manicured. One improvement that could be made is to speed the greens up just a tad and I would throw in a few bunkers here and there, but now I'm just getting greedy. I will be back!

Locker rooms are gross and lockers are expensive and often broken anyway. Don't bother. Exercise facilities ... ok if you don't need any space to do anything and can rely on machines for your workout, and need no room to really do free weights. Stretching? Hah ... good luck. If there are more than two people trying to do anything you'll have to toss a coin for navigating the space. Also why does everyone think it's ok to stand in the stairwell and have a catch up conversation as loud as outside voices? Or converse on the phone while working out?! Track is nice. Gym space is beautiful but always filled with school groups as the schools don't have enough spaces (yay for the comm center supporting local schools but also why are they not supporting their own activities?) Staff at desk has been consistently rude or at a minimum seem annoyed you're there. I don't go anymore unless the grandkids are visiting and the weather is too sucky for beach time. It's just ... meh.

My Wife and I walked over on our way out. What a pleasant surprise. Granted, there is stiff competition with the ocean only a few yards away, literally but this small park has tons of charm. We sat on the bench next to the water and it was awesome. My Wife noticed a secret path that takes you further down the waters edge for some awesome relaxation. We startled a couple ducks chilling on the edge or rather, they startled me when I almost walked up to them before they moved and I noticed them. lol It's also a good place to let your pets roam but there are no pet waste bags available. So... BYOPPB The bathrooms were clean and the parking lot has several spots to add for beach access. There is even a place to store your surf board's while you're using the parks amenities.

My fiancé and I went to escape the heat in pdx this weekend, and I found this scenic retreat just…read morenorth of Newport, and we fell in LOVE!! We got up to the entera de and paid $7 to park and walk around a whole preserved Oregon park! It was so worth it because there were very few people there (compared to any other beach we've been to north of Tillamook). We drove around, parked, and walked on some of the trails to start out. We went over to the lighthouse that's kind of stunning because it's been kept up so well. Once we got over there, I realized MY FAMILY BROUGHT ME HERE GROWING UP UNTIL I WAS OLDER!!! I got emotional and my fiancé was just so excited to be apart of where I used to travel to in the summers. The steps to get down to Cobble Beach are kind of steep - but not too bad. Probably around 200 steps to get all the way down to the charcoal stones that line the beach. If you want sand, don't come to this part of the peninsula; this cobble stone coastline is meant for people who just want to be with the sounds of nature; by that I mean sit on some of the smoothed over rocks and just LISTEN!! The stones cascade together creating an amazing sound that just humbled us. We sat on the bottom of the stairs (there's a small ledge that's right at the base kind of hidden) and just watched the waves and listened to the cobble stone clatter. There were a few seals hunting at that time right were we were sitting and they kept checking out the few people that were down on the beach. We were here for around 2 hours, and I wish we didn't have to rush up to tillamook because I would've stayed here probably until sunset. Hands down beautiful, and we are going to be back within the next month or so

It was a foggy morning and I think all the families decided to make the best of it and visit the aquarium. That meant lots of people at all the exhibits. We had been to the aquarium before, and the leadership had made continuous changes so it was refreshed. We enjoyed our time there, but truthfully, it's geared more towards families.

We've sort of avoided the aquarium for years, mainly because of the drive from Portland, but we…read morefinally decided to make the journey. Overall, we were pleasantly surprised. It's definitely not the biggest aquarium by volume, but it can still be a fun time. The standout area is the outdoor section including the seals, sea lions, and otters. Love how they designed the rocky outposts in between exhibits. Definitely would recommend planning your day around the various feeding times. If not, you could theoretically run through all the exhibits relatively quickly, since it's not that large. Plus the shows are pretty well done, my personal favorite were the sea lions, who knew way more commands/tricks than i expected.

We knew there was beach access at Nye Beach so we tried that and were pleased to find that there was very little soft sand to navigate. We knew that the parking lot access was free before 9 AM so we went earlier. Although the marine layer was thick, we had the beach to ourselves for the most part. One warning: if you head south, you will have to cross a creek. While it isn't deep, you will get your shoes wet.

Nye Beach is another place to visit while visiting Newport, Oregon. A town that I have very fond of…read moreand always look forward going to. My last visit here was when we had some in-laws come visit us. They are from the landlocked Midwest so naturally going to a beach let alone this one was a real lure for them and a must stop. We wondered around on the beach itself which is beautiful and so very sandy... something that is not always a guarantee up where I live in Washington where there are often pebbly beaches which are beautiful and fun in their own way. But here you can really dig your toes into the beach here and let the water rush onto them. The water is still pretty cold even if it is the summer. You have to go quite a ways to Southern California before the water gets warmer... something to consider. Still it's very refreshing on a hot day. The view is perfect as you can see a lighthouse, the one to north of town as well as out towards the ocean itself. I was born and raised from a landlocked state too and while I have lived on the west coast for over ten years the ocean still remains very enchanting to me. I think it would for most people and going to the Oregon Coast and going to beaches like Nye Beach here will keep that allure going nice and strong.

D River State Park is a really convenient beach access point in Lincoln City. There is a spacious…read morepaved parking lot, and the park offers lots of great amenities like restrooms, mobility mats for easy beach access, and educational signage for visitors. There is a promenade of sorts with benches between the parking lot and the beach. There are a fair number of benches that offer a perfect opportunity for sitting and taking in the gorgeous views. We experienced one of the best sunsets ever from this convenient beach. D River has a fun history as once being listed in the Guiness Book of World Records as the shortest river. There is a little debate over that fact now, but it doesn't take away from the novelty. Visitors can explore the short river, collect rocks, fly a kite or just take in the views. Everyone is likely to enjoy this delightful park!
