Go figure! I went to try golfing at least once. I had such a great experience at Sandpines that I signed up for lessons.The staff are very friendly and helpful! Made me feel welcomed. the pro-instructor Michael Cattani is very welcoming. I've had a few lessons now and I'm very excited to share that he has been so supportive and helpful, I've never golfed before and now I'm confident enough I purchased my own clubs. Fun course, aggressive miserable staff. Sun, crazy wind, well challenging enough course, not too overwhelming for a beginner. And the place to ourselves. Could you ask for more?! No one on the course, no Marshall checking pace, so obviously we play slow (4.5hrs 18 holes). No one tells us there's a closing time (it's 7pm on a July Saturday). We finished the 18th, realized we'd left a driver cover on the tee and head back to find it. Why not play the hole again? But no, before we're out of the cart the Golf Cop drives full speed right at us - THROUGH THE TEE BOXES - and shouts 'Get the carts back. I want to go home!' Back at the clubhouse he drives right up 'Go put your clubs in your car NOW!' So, really unique customer service :) read more

This was my first visit to Florence Golf Links, and it was absolutely phenomenal! The staff, from pro shop to snack shack to cart staff to grounds keepers - 10 out of 10 - incredibly welcoming, genuinely cared about your happiness and obviously take tremendous pride in their work! Seriously, every course needs this level of effort from their employees. During these trying COVID times, the crew has stepped up. The course was in terrific condition, and their grounds keeper staff is currently less than 5 people! Cannot imagine how much work is required - but they've done it and done it to top level! The CARTs all looked brand new, they were that clean, and operated great! The snack shack employee, she was so nice and a great engagement with customers before entering the pro shop - as was the employee who was handling the CARTs (I couldn't place his accent, but he was incredibly welcoming and clearly worked hard to have his product in top form - he was also hilarious). The employee in the pro shop was very helpful with suggestions regarding the course, as it was my first visit. Provided information of facility location, things to look for on the course and a few tips that proved helpful in navigating the track. I cannot wait to come back for a second round here, didn't really want to leave after my first round. If I would have started earlier - would definitely have done a re-round. 10/10, 5 stars, great job everyone! read more

Played my first round here over Thanksgiving weekend. The staff was so attentive and professional. Even with a frost delay, they made sure to keep us posted. This is a big disappointment. I'm traveling the country in my rv playing golf and I drove to Florence golf links specifically because it had good reviews and it's a Harvest Hosts member. One thing I didn't notice from all the reviews on yelp is that there is nothing newer than two years old, there are no recent reviews. And this is where I made a mistake. If I looked deeper into it they were all 5 and 10 years old. I just showed up on a Tuesday with plans of playing Wednesday morning. Because I was excited to play I decided to play Tuesday afternoon also but after nine holes I got off the golf course even though I was having a lot of fun with the two young guys I got paired up with. the conditions of the course and of the greens were so bad I just didn't feel like being out there anymore. It's bad ! I hope they get it together it seems like a good course but I'm not gonna bother playing a full 18 so I don't know what the back nine will be like. read more

What a gem! I've been coming to Florence annually for the past 5 years and my only regret is not playing this course sooner. The whole course is meticulously groomed and is a pleasure to roam. Tee shots are fairly forgiving for the average player and approaches are too. The greens are flat and large making putting a little easier. Plus, it's hard to have a bad round when surrounded by the sand pines & dunes. There is a great restaurant here as well. Be sure to ask for owners Michael & Nancy when you arrive and they'll give you a true Florence welcome. read more

We were here on 8/14/15 @ 3. The guy in the pro shop was a jerk, can't remember his name but he had blonde hair. He had no customer service skills at all. we had to pay an extra $15 for me to just ride in the golf cart. Better use the bathroom before you get on the course because there is only one outhouse. For as much as they charge they could afford to build some nice bathrooms out there. The greens are very slow for the money value. read more

Always enjoy playing here, particularly since private management of the course was sold to a professional golf course management company. The separate tees allow for average to low handicap players to equally enjoy the course. Caution: better be prepared to bring your wind game, as afternoon winds usually prevail. To the previous poster who complained about the lack of brick and mortar bathrooms: this is a golf course, so suck it up and use the ports-potties that are discretely placed out of normal sight so as not to mar the course views. read more

Another round here leads me back to fewer stars. The degree of mismanagement is confusing. Why put golfers out on 10 in front of groups making the turn? Makes a mess of pace of play, not to mention it's just plain rude. Only one cart guy, despite a sunny morning that brought a crowd. Or at least a crowd by standards here - still amazing how few golfers it takes to get management all a-flutter. They'd never make it at a busy course. Looks like the winter rains have made quite a mess of the place - but can't see they are working to stave off problems repeating in the future. No new drainage, etc. The liners are lifting in both ponds - pretty unsightly. read more

Golf was nice, course not in as good of shape as in past years. Service in clubhouse was terrible - group of 8 for post round beer and we asked to pull two tables together, told to go in dining room but because we did not want to eat asked again just to pull tables together. Comment "why do you need to pull tables together for a beer". We left and called back later to register complaint and talked to manager who said he saw the whole thing and ended up by hanging up on us- zero people in bar when we entered and zero when we left with our money. Might play golf there again but, go elsewhere for food read more

Windy Windy Windy course. No other words to describe it...but Florence is a windy town. My family and I enjoy this course -- as its pretty challenging -- and has reasonable rates. 18 holes. Fairly easy to walk -- although it can feel long in spots. Some great water holes...especially in the home stretch. Check it out if you are in the area! read more

I've always wanted to play this course since I moved to Oregon in 2001. I came across and good deal and my buddy and I made the drive from Portland last weekend. The long drive was so worth it. We actually ended up being the only 2 people on the entire course. This place is such a beautiful course. Everything was top notch. The staff were very friendly as well. We stopped at the turn and had lunch and that was great also. Will definitely be back to play again. read more

Stayed in Florence and played Sandpines on our way from So. Calif. to Whistler BC. This is a poor man's Bandon Dunes. Good course for all skill levels with wide fairways and large greens. Almost impossible to lose a ball on this course. All of this makes for faster play. Well maintained with a very friendly staff. The 18th hole is beautiful and a good challenge. A par 5 that follows a lake on the left from tee to green. Great golf experience. read more

Visited this course in August. Well maintained course! For a course without ocean views, it was still beautiful. Stunning lake on front nine. Back nine is more of a links course, but more forgiving than other links courses (like Spanish Bay). We played in the afternoon and very few golfers. Restaurant closes early so we ate before playing. Lots of wildlife, even a fox! read more

Sandpines is a good, interesting layout and fun place to play. The course is kept in good condition and my only complaint would be the pace of the greens. I am a fan of fast greens and these are kept a bit on the shaggy side for my tastes. Expect to play in the wind - I have been there three times and I swear the winds blow harder every time I go (it is the coast after all). I can't speak to the menu or the customer service - neither are a priority for me. I go to a golf course to play golf; not to be waited on or fed, so these things aren't even on my radar. read more

Arrived on a Wed. Around 11:30, 65° and sunny, beautiful course with really nice gentlemen as the starters. We went inside to pay and the guy working the cash register was immediately rude. I looked at him kind of sideways and he said "what". I told him he was being kinda rude and he just blew me off. I paid, played and had a great round. The guy inside needs to be washing dishes not working with customers at a high end golf course. I mentioned it to the starter and he said it's not the first time he has heard that. We have played this course for 15 years plus and now drive from Welches, Oregon to golf this amazing course. The staff is always helpful and accommodating, the facilities top notch (including the restaurant) and the course conditions never let us down. All of this and great pricing too! The Central Oregon coast is easily accessible from Salem, Corvallis or Eugene. Once there - get to Florence - just west of Eugene. You will find Sandpines Golf Links which is one of the most beautiful of all the great courses on the coast ... and ... very challenging! 72 par and nearly 7,200 yards - you will find the beautiful scenery lulls you into serene mind frame. You will want to stay alert to the winds if playing in the afternoon and use the right club and stroke to make it work for you. If you are a long driving fool - you will look like a pro with a breeze behind you! If you face any winds - better keep it low to or that ball may fly far afield - or far off center. The course was named Golf Digest's top for "Places to Play" and still is with a 4.5 star rating. Rees Jones Links Design. Rolling dunes, long drive fairways, immaculate greens ... sand traps!!! A few low pines help keep the winds at bay in strategic stretches - not too many forests to contend with except clusters of pines if you drive to long or wide in some spots. Bring a camera if you like wildlife and scenery. And don't miss the food and beverages in Tavolo Restaurant and Lounge. Say hello to Kristi - the nicest and kindest bartender on the coast AND the staff are outstanding - the chef makes the BEST clam chowder in all of Florence and you can find excellent chowders in town everywhere! The golf shop has all you need if you forget anything - again - great staff with good tips on the course. You can generally get on with a call to 541-997-1940. You won't be rushed with good spacing between foursomes - even the walkers - but carts are not expensive and may be advisable if you play far and wide as I do. PS - There may be homes to rent nearby if you want to make a nice long week or weekend of play here. Lots to do in town for spouses and good night life on weekends. read more
