We also ordered a breakfast hand pie (why does life not use the term hand pie more often, you just feel so fun ordering one) and an Egg & Cheese Bagel. Both freshly put together and toasted to perfection. It is great when a cafe has actually delicious and intentional food. The staff was more than ready to give their suggestions and help. I honestly have not been in the area much lately and was surprised to see its prime location on South Highland in that East Liberty, Shadyside and Friendship corridor. The inside of the shop was packed by the time we got inside so I did not get to see much of it other than the coffee bar and the large selection of baked goods. For my coffee this morning I went with a butter beer cold brew while my wife went with an iced Almond Joy latte. The menu described mine as cold brew with butterscotch syrup and cheesecake sweet cream. My wife's was described as just like the candy bar with dark chocolate and coconut topped with coconut flakes. My coffee actually ended up tasting pretty good. The butterscotch tasted somewhat similar to caramel but the cold brew was definitely the star. It was rich and strong which I always appreciate. The cheesecake sweet cream was also a nice addition as it was sweet like you would expect but also had a bit of tartness that reminded me of actual cheesecake. My wife also enjoyed her coffee and especially liked the combination of chocolate, coconut and coffee flavors. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. My wife and I both enjoyed our drinks and I would definitely be interested in trying some of the pastries next time.

I wish they had more food selection but it was still good. There is not a fixed menu and they rotate what they make I believe. We all had a sourdough breakfast sandwich with bacon, egg, and cheese which they heat up for you. All of their food is displayed in the cases. They had pepperoni rolls, muffins, croissants, scones, etc.

I believe that The Garden Cafe uses la prima beans which are one of my favorite local roasters. The fridge in the back is open for anyone who is facing food insecurity too. Overall, the inside space of The Garden Cafe is cozy and makes me want to read a book there sometime. Service was fast and the baristas really connect with the locals.

I ordered one of their buns, they had a Turkish name. The bun itself wasn't as great as I thought it would be, was more like bread than a bun TBH. And it took a while to make which is fine for me since I was staying but something to be cautious about. I got a coconut lavender latte though and enjoyed that. Wi-Fi is strong enough to do your work. There aren't too many outlets available though. Especially in a tables in the middle. And I guess it's not meant to be a studying café because people are pretty loud in there, bring your headphones.

I wish they listed the descriptions of what the flavors are for the signature drinks though so I don't have to bother the staff on what each thing actually is while it's busy. The pastries here all looked great with different flavors, I liked the Pecan Cherry scone a lot, with actual cherries mixed in! It is vegan and gf, which means the texture is definitely very different from traditional pastries, but one of the best vegan ones I've ever had. Excited to come back and try more!
