We had purchased a 10 x 4' oak table from after the barn about 10 months ago taht we absolutely loved. We dealt with Bob the owner who was amazing but unfortunately passed away about 6 months ago. His son Rob has since taken over the business. We had an issue about a month after receiving the table with the wood splitting open the table in a few different areas. We contacted Bob about the issue and he was more then gracious to come by and take a look at the problem. He agreed that the was odd and that the table top would need to be repaired. Bob had told us he was going to send his crew to pick up the table top from our home on Long Island and bring it back to Beacon NY to correct the issue. Bob followed through like he said and a few weeks later picked up the table and a month after that we had out beautiful table back. Unfortunately the same issue occurred within the two months our table returned. [continued below].... Report Attachments: ..... In that period of time Bob had passed so out of respect we gave an extra month before we contacted Rob who was now in charge to let him know of the issue. I first reached out to him on February 9th 2017 by Facebook messenger. After a few days Rob responded and told me to give him a call so i did numerous times with no response. I then proceeded to text him which i had gotten responses from him asking for photos and measurements which i responded right away. Last i was told that Rob was going to build a new top and i would have it in 3-4 weeks. This was on March 29th 2017. Since April 26th which is 4 weeks later i have reached out to Rob and after the barn about 20 times by text, phone, Facebook messenger and email with not one response. I spent over $4000.00 on for this table and cant believe that this company who makes beautiful furniture has done this to my family. I have given them every opportunity to correct the issue and have been more then patience. I happen to be a small business owner myself and cant believe the treatment i am receiving. Robby finally told me I could take untouched boards from his yard. They we're not what I initially asked for but it's better than being out $350. I would approach this business carefully as it's excuse after excuse and will give you a date to pick up the lumber but not come through. If you are going to buy anything from Robby pick it up the same day or you will get frustrated. I'm giving two stars for it being resolved but cannot give it more than that. I would never go back for any reason. read more

Truly one of a kind reclaimed lumber. Have done business many time over the years always resulting in absolutely beautiful furniture. I would not let the negative reviews sway your decision. When you are building with 150 year old reclaimed lumber cracks will happen. We love our dining table we get nothing but compliments on it. read more

Had the same problem as the other reviewers. Bought a beautiful custom table, within 6 months, a HUGE crack down the middle. If only Rob had been upfront at the start, I would have been willing to accept the fact that there has been no effort to repair or replace the table, but he has been feeding me lies and promises for FIVE MONTHS only to flake out at the last second or offer to come and never reply when I ask when. We have a lot of stuff from After the Barn through out the house. Most of it was purchased in 2015 before the management changed. We placed an order this year in april for custom work. We have not received it and like other reviewers we have not heard from them and they have our deposit and will not give it back. I would not expect to get anything from this business.... They set up pick ups and deliveries a few times and stood us up! One time they claimed that their truck broke down and was waiting for a tow truck. We went to where they claimed to have broken down and they were not there... I waited at home from 9am to 10pm waiting for a delivery. They never showed. Don't be suckers and spend your hard earned money with this guy! Contact me and I'll gladly share the text messages where he denies there is anything wrong with the table, then says he did not even make the table, them says he did again, then says I'm the first and only complaint, then says he'll fix it, then says it was a bad batch of wood, then tells me he has my new table top and will sen me a pic, no pic days lost on no show deliveries without even a heads up. Took him to small claims court and received a full judgement on the purchase price. If this guy is selling tables again and collecting cash I'd like to collect the money small claims court says he owes me. read more

Did not deliver goods after we paid in full !!!!!! It is a shame that Robert at After the Barn in Beacon Ny is taking people money and leave them hanging. We commission from him a table top and a bench last year and were to pick it up before leaving to CA from NY. Robert after pushing back the pickup date 3 times because of his own fault and/or request told us he would ship to us in CA and that he have done it before that it would be okay. Still with out a Table and a bench on December 2017! What a rip off after we send him a money order to complete payment in expectation that he would ship to us. Stay way from this crook, this is the type of person that gives small business a bad name and reputation. Robert you are despicable! read more

Rob custom milled us this beautiful 200 year old hand hewn beam for our mantel. We had very specific dimensions we needed to be milled out of the back in order to fit properly on our existing brick mantel. Rob was nothing but pleasant and accommodating. It has changed the entire look of our living room and is a conversation starter for anyone who enters our home. We just picked up more wood today for a barnwood accent wall, and Rob custom skip planned it all for us! We will continue to use Rob for his beautiful wood and our customized needs. What a terrible experience and disappointment. Stay clear of this business. He gave me the run around for weeks, back and forth to the store three times, delivery promises when he never showed. When I finally picked up the order it was wrong (It should have been 3 shelves 12" deep - one shelf was 14" deep). When I went back to pick up the shelf he was supposed to fix, it was different wood from the other two. I give up!! I can't deal with him again. I planned to hang 3 open shelves in my kitchen, now I will have to hang the two shelves that match together and put the third shelf somewhere else. read more

If I could leave "O" STARS I would.!!! What a horrible & disappointing experience. I first got in contact with Rob in May 2017 to visit his warehouse to pick out some wood for our new kitchen shelving. After numerous texts (since his mailbox is full & he NEVER answers his phone) I would get a reply maybe 3-10 days later. Trying to co-ordinate a pick up or drop off of the shelving was like pulling teeth. After scheduling times he never showed on 2 occasions, never having the decency to reply to my texts or call me to let me know he was running late. I received 6 shelves & he FORGOT the last piece -a bar countertop, which my husband & I have tried texting him for 2 weeks now with NO REPLY!!! The wood he did drop off was not sanded as it was meant to be, which I had paid for. One of the shelves has a large crack running all the way through it, he said it's filled with glue & wont crack , but I am pretty sure it will break once installed!! All together a very frustrating & painful experience-Save yourself the trouble & DO NOT order or do business with this Company!!! Worst buyer experience ever!! This guy is a total "Flake"! read more

BEWARE! What a terrible experience I had dealing with Rob(owner). He is one of the most unreliable people I have come across. He never delivered on his work he owed me. The work I did receive wasn't finished properly. I was afraid to give it back to him to fix because I thought I would never see it again even though I paid for it. He rarely returned a text that I sent to him. I couldn't leave a voicemail because his inbox is full. He set up delivery times and never showed. I was tired of trying to track him down and gave up. This was such a disappointing experience I felt the need to share it so other people don't experience what I did. read more

Tables are one of a kind and I imagine it must be very difficult having to take over a business all by yourself having no help or preparation and dealing with new customers and existing. Can't imagine the stress of trying to help every customer when it's only one person running the business. read more
