Was visiting from California a couple of weeks ago where respect & decency seems to be a little more 2nd nature. My partner & I stepped in with drinks accidentally in hand; initially paying no mind to signage until I caught glimpse. Laughed it off and was on my way to set my drink outside to enjoy browsing the rest of the store when the shopkeeper made a slick rude remark about it being a "good job" that I could read?? A simple "can you set that outside please?" Does the job. I get y'all having policies but after careful review it seems like you're just comfortable being rude cuz it's your establishment. It's giving miserable 1st, 2nd it's at best a low vibrational tourist metaphysical trap that steals indigenous practices with no recognition. Please save yourself a visit and give your hard earned $ to people who lead with kindness & who deserve it... but hey you might enjoy if you like mean girls who are into the metaphysical, & new age spirituality for aesthetics.

I decided to drop in because there were a few upcoming birthdays I had to buy for, and they have such a great, varied selection of gift items. Plus, I always love mixing old and new items in my home decor because it just feels more personal and layered for me. That's where Isabella's Treasures in New Paltz came in around late Fall '24. I wanted my tree dressed in time for Thanksgiving dinner. Yes, I'm that person who puts up the tree at least the day before and lights it during dessert time to kick off the holiday season. To my surprise, Isabella's had exactly what I was looking for: vintage ornaments in the perfect colors- each one unique, full of soul, and priced reasonably in the $4 to $8 range. Totally worth it for pieces I won't find anywhere else. The shop itself is a cozy treasure trove, filled with everything from jewelry, textiles, to jewelry boxes- both new and vintage. There's also an attached room with vintage board games and clothing (though I'm not sure if that's part of Isabella's Treasures or a neighboring vendor). Isabella herself is a doll- super helpful, warm, and even gave me some background stories on the ornaments I purchased. If they were, they would approach customers and try to "sell" the merchandise and not wander or hide behind the cash register. I don't know if the staff can tell the difference between the subtle signs of craftsmanship, Milanese button holes, no taping on the seams of an unconstructed men's jacket, and a schlock job. There are not too many high-end retailers around anymore. Wallach's and Barneys come to mind. There is a lot of high-end, well tailored merchandise. But I didn't see a tailor on site if alterations are needed. Long long ago, in the neighborhood far, far away. I worked at John Wanamaker's in the men's suit department; on commission and salary.
