    Selection of knives

I really like this little hole in the wall knife shop in the City Square open market. The business is called Aframes Tokyo and is a very unique knife sharpening and knife products shop. I cook a lot and appreciate good knives so I got a Tommy Onion sharpening tool as a gift once. I went to Woodcraft to purchase replacement belts for my sharpener then I happened to go to the open market to shop. This is when I discovered Aframes. The belts that I had purchased was 25% cheaper and the amount of quality knives and sharpeners are pretty immense. If and whew I need to purchase a new knife I will return here first before I shop around.

Took 2 Wusthof kitchen knives and Takeshi sharpened them like new! One is over 30 years old! $17 to fix and reshape the old knife, $12 for the newer version.

I brought in two more knives and purchased one. Two knives I brought in had chips from my mom hacking bones. Mr. Takeshi did a nice job fixing the blade and taking off some rust.

I've been putting off getting my Knives sharpened, so when I was forced to cook more often at home due to COVID, I realized I had better make sure it's sharp and SAFER to use. Took my four knives to Takeshi at Aframes Tokyo in the middle of the the produce marketplace. He looked over them quickly and quoted $20 and that they'd be done in 40 minutes. He also sells lots of Japanese knives -- looks like Sashimi knives! Very nice man. Lots to do in that small mall -- eat breakfast or lunch (get mochi donut cones with ice cream or Kamehameha bakery poi donuts?). And the produce stalls in the marketplace has so many items you can peruse while waiting. Recommending him to all members of my family!

I'm so happy when I called Island Marketing (IM) and it was open today and allows walk ins. There is a parking lot right in front of its business. Easy access and as you enter IM, there is a compact front showcase section that shows much of what IM carries for wholesale and retail. So many choices here! I met Eric, one of the two owners, who work tirelessly here. It's amazing how much inventory is carried in this business. You may browse around at the variety of boxes, gift bags, baking supplies, ribbons, business stickers and so much more here! Please enjoy the pictures to have a better idea of what is offered here. When I read her review, it was exactly what I was looking for. Yay, I was so happy to hear about this supplier. Finally, I had a day off during the week so I took a ride to Kalihi to check them out. I was blown away the moment I stepped foot into the tiny storefront.! I am a sucker for gift bags, cellophane bags, cute food boxes, containers and packaging supplies. This is the place to come. The prices are reasonable too! Eric the owner was very friendly and helpful. He showed me different types of cellophane bags for my cookies. He recommended that I buy the lip and tape bags to keep my cookies fresh longer. I bought a pack of 100 lip and tape bags as well as other cellophane bags for other purposes. I will definitely be back for more! If you are looking for packaging supplies that are cute and purposeful, come check out ISLANDS MARKETING in Kalihi. You'll thank me for that!

I haven't tried their hot and ready foods, but the foods that we get to cook with are top notch in quality and value. Hubs is one of those guys who will drive the cart and add what he sees and wants to try, so when I just need one or two things, I leave him home. What can I say, sometimes willy nilly shopping can get expensive! The staff are all friendly and helpful and they have spotlighted areas in Japan which rotate regularly. If you want to know what area they are spotlighting, I suggest getting on the digital mailer so you can see the sales and specials. If you are a fan of wagyu and kurobota pork, this is your spot. When I make sweet and sour spare ribs, this is the only place that I can find the ribs cut long way (makes for more meat and easier eating). If you are a fan of hot pot, they have soups ready to go. They also have veggies and noodles premade and all the cuts of meat for that shabu shabu experience. The construction on the rail makes the entrance a little tricky depending on what side of the island you are coming from, just know there is a back entrance behind the gas station.

If you leave your shopping cart unattended, you may see your cart rolling off in different directions due to the uneven floor. The staff is friendly and helpful.
