People like Travis are hard to come by nowadays. Awesome local braddah with a passion for what he does. Real down to earth and authentic. I ruined two chef knives and Travis saved them. He really took the time and effort to bring them back to life. He really knows what he's doing. Two completely different knives and material and he fixed them better than new. Razor sharp and polished. Mahalo sir. I highly recommend you go see him. I will anytime I need my knives serviced. read more

Nagatani's Blade & Tool Services - Sharpened knife - Knife Sharpening Near Me

Travis is very communicative and kind. I texted him to inquire about having a utility knife sharpened. He does appointments and also does a pop up in downtown Honolulu. He invited me to the pop up; he had a few work orders in front of me so I dropped it off and came back. When I came back he was super apologetic and informed that he was having equipment issues and was unable to finish. He apologized and asked if it would be ok to come back next week. I was not worried at all and said I would come back. Texted him the following Sunday and he was able to meet me and finish the job at no charge. Again, he was very apologetic and kind. I'm new to Hawaii and this is the kindness I hear about when they talk about the aloha spirit. I will keep coming to him as he did an amazing job. read more

Very helpful and affordable. Easy to schedule and work was done well and quickly. Definitely recommend

He did a great job of sharpening my knives. Even though he did it on an electric grinder. They were sharpened to cut sushi well.

Travis is a perfectionist. Amazing attention to detail. Cool and low key. Very willing to answer questions and educate.

I contacted Nagatani Blade Works about a kydex sheath for one of my knives and he did an excellent job! Super stoked with how it came out and the prices are very reasonable. Turn around time was quick as well. I was also really happy that he touched up a few of my knives and gave me some pointers on sharpening. He is extremely knowledgeable and was happy to share some of his knowledge with me. I will definitely be back! Mahalo!! read more

We just had a great experience with Travis! He sharpened our knives, gave us some education about maintaining our knIves, and showed us a lot of aloha. Charged very reasonable price too. I highly recommend Travis! read more

Braddah Travis is awesome! I brought to him 3 knives. A 10" Kershaw trail knife and 2- 3" folding Bucks. Keep in mind these are all just Off- the Shelf knives, decent steel but nothing custom made or fancy. He re- did the blade and turned them into something I never thought I would own! The trail knife was honestly a bit abused and the buck knives skinned/ deboned a lot of pigs to a point where I couldn't re- sharpen them myself. When Travis was done, the blade had a better, more refined edge than the factory work. Factory work is mass- produced the company cannot put as much care into the work as Travis did, he is a true craftsman of his trade and is a perfectionist! And yes, braddah Travis took the time to teach me how to maintain and PROPERLY sharpen my knives. If you live across the island and need some re- sharpening make the drive! I mean he was mentored by Ken Onion..... what more can you ask for? read more

I found this place after my husband was wanting to get his knives sharpened. After reading the reviews it really sounded like this guy knows his stuff. I have ZERO clue about knives. I have picked up a Couple of things from my husband, but not enough to be able to "talk knives" with a pro. We had some phone issues so I tried to call as did my husband, left a voice message and got a response with in 5mins. We made an appointment, was able to be seen the next day. Minimum was 6 knives which we could easily do, however my husband didn't take his most prizes knife since he wasn't sure what to expect. We rolled up to a house, nothing fancy and met Travis. I waited in the car since I was mearly the direction giver to my husband. And I hoped for the best. 5, mins go by, 10 mins. On and on. I was getting worried. I could see them both, lots of head nodding, gestures. Anyways, I carry on playing on my phone. My husband comes back to the car, I ask of everything is ok. My husband is as giddy as a school girl who meets her favorite boy band. It was taking so long because Travis was teaching him, taking the time to discuss how and why he is doing everything since he saw that my husband was serious about his chefs knives. After another hour or so. My husband returns to the car and has decided to leave his knives to get the full knife day spa treatment. I had never seen him so excited to talk to someone about knives who knew his stuff. His only regret was not to bring his most loved knife down to the knife master of Oahu!! Travis is leaving for Kauai soon. So if your on the fence about getting your knives done, just jump of it and go run to Travis to get them sorted!! read more

Wow. What can I say? This guy's THE GUY. He's Yoda with knives. Meeting him and watching him work was much less a clinic and more of a religious experience. Travis gave me a TED talk on how to sharpen knives and the art and philosophy. I feel like got a wealth of knowledge for the price of a pizza. The guy is honestly a great guy who's willing to chat with you and nerd out with you about knives. His work is quick, professional and he really took the time out to make sure the knives were perfect when they came back to me. My tools are well worn from years of cooking both at home and professionally, and Travis restored them in the time it took me to shop at sam's club. Honestly, my knives never looked this good and are sharper than when they came out of the box. It was a bittersweet moment when I got my knives back. Sweet because those knives are genuinely beautiful and touched by a true artist. Bitter because Travis is gonna move off island in a couple of months. How much are you willing to pay for the best? Anything. It just so happens he charges $5. read more

I did not take my items to Travis since one of the items I needed sharpened was a pinking shears for sewing, he wasn't sure what it was so I did not want to drive there and find out he couldn't sharpen it. He was very responsive and polite so would consider using him to sharpen knives next time. My rating us based in his timely response and politeness when I called him. read more

I had two Japan made and purchase as well in country knifes that have been out of use and sitting in storage for some time. One knife is 10" Chefs Knife and the other is a high quality Sashimi knife. When they were rediscover, after cleaning out the storage, I decided to refurbish and bring them back to life. With my limited knowledge in knife sharpening and the price I paid for both knives; Between $800-$1200 each, no way I was going to do it myself and seeked professional help. Turning to Yelp I reviewed various options but Nagatani's Blade stood out too me. After reviewing all the reviews I decided to give them a try. Just as all the reviews mentioned Owner Travis is extremely knowledgeable and is a true master in his craft. His shop is ran out of a resident and does look shabby but don't let that fool yah he has top of the line equipment, knowledge, and is a overall down to earth local business/man. So with such remarks you may wonder why I rated only 3 stars. With my chef knife results can only be describe as perfection. As you can see from the before and after pictures. But the issue lies with my High quality Sashimi knife. When discussing the service I asked that he preserve the quality and originality of the blade as much as possible due to the nature and price of the blade. Not being a SME but with limited knowledge in the process I accept the fact that there will have to be some reshaping and sanding in the process. But after I received the sashimi knife back I was told the whole knife had to be reshape and to do so a lot of sanding and resizing occurred. If I was informed of the situation prior to execution I would of stop the work and just request service on the other knife. So with one restored perfect and one not so satisfactory I have to rate Nagatani's with an average. But I will have to say both knifes are razor sharp and will recommend Nagatani's Blade for Capable and reasonably price work. read more

Found Travis on Yelp and gave him a call to sharpen a kitchen knife and a couple pocket knives. We set up a time to meet at his shop and I was impressed with his tooling setup and knowledge of knives. He says he worked with Ken Onion who designs for Kershaw and till this day does sharpening for him. He did a great job putting a factory edge back on our chefs knife and got all my pocket knives up to snuff. He has spent decades perfecting his craft. He also designs and custom knives upon request. I got to see a few knives he was working on and I will probably commission him to make a custom knife for me. Nice person to talk story with and get all your knives back to new. Pricing is great and he goes above and beyond to teach you a few things about keeping your knives sharp. read more

Travis did an amazing job with all of my knives. As a former professional chef who used to hand sharpen my knives daily, I was worried about taking my knives to someone else. Travis is truly an artist of his craft. He showed the utmost care in sharpening every knife from the $300 dollar knives down to my Spyderco pocket knife. Blades have never been so sharp. It would be worth the price paid for services received for me, just to see this artisan repair/sharpen/hone/revive another persons knives. If you know a smidgen about knives, surely you've heard the name Ken Onion. This gentleman's relationship with aforementioned is what originally attracted me in seeking out service. What a great decision! What I was impressed with the most: This bahdahs knowledge, passion, and skill in his craft - I was not only kindly allowed to view him in action, but did so as he simultaneously answered any and all of my questions. Ever see a single sheet of newspaper get sliced from edge in mid-air? I did... with each of my knives. The behavior of his children and family. The young-uns all were so very polite, helpful, accommodating, and knowledgable. Beautiful kids - Hawaii still has hope! I even got to see what I would call 'artifacts'. One-offs, pieces hand crafted from Mr. Onion himself when he was a struggling knifesmith perfecting his craft. I was shown some hand-bound - handle knives created by Travis, and also took a peek at some of his custom kydex pistol holsters. An awesome experience. Sensory overload. Any more would be typing too much. Please visit this gentleman, artist, bahdah, and be wowed as boast-worthy skill and humble aloha intertwine. An honor to meet you and your family Travis.
